I learned the “broken record” trick from you last year and WOW it’s so impactful. People will ask you the same question 6 times in a row, then have the audacity to ask why you keep repeating the same answer 😂 “because you keep asking the same question” *mic drop*
@@babblesp1367 hang in there homie. We have to stay strong for the ones of us who are so done. Otherwise we wouldn’t get to maybe someday meet and commiserate with each other! Lol.😂
I REALLY like your content! As a person who survived a traumatic childhood, I have struggled to deal with multiple instances of workplace bullying. I really need to begin implementing these effective techniques that you are showing. Thank you so much. ❤
This is so timely for me. under attacked right now by some people unscrupulous behaviour, trying to get me to respond to their demands to put me in financial strife. I need more time to think about how to respond. It is getting them hot under the collar with more threatening behaviour.
"Affirmations aren't just for hippies and beatniks." 😂 This is why I love you, Dan O'Connor! (along with the wide words of wisdom and positive reminders that we have agency and choice in this world.) ❤
Love you Dan!! I can hear you in my. mind when I say something that doesn't sound like battery or assault or like I've been violated, battered and assaulted. You are so great. Really love. you. All best Dan!
About 1 out of 5 of these phrases would work in England. We only use indirect speech anything else is considered aggressive and rude. For example of your boss doesn't agree with your idea: " That's an interesting point of view, however I think you should try this... " Which means if you have a direct speaking style especially in terms of culture this can be difficult to grapple with.
Thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately no tactic works in all cultures, and it is my hope that people can generally adapt tactics to their own culture and also to their own personal style and way of speaking.
I LOVED your advice ❤ I wish I had known you before ending up in an extreme burnout for copying toxic people in my ex-office. ❤ despite being out of that environment (I resigned), I will watch your videos and learn. Thank you for giving us such wise recommendations. ❤
Love you, your energy, your humour, I would really love you to help also with in laws and bad friends… I really need you in my life to be more skill full❤
While your circle of people may shrink as a result of empowering and advocating for yourself, whether that be at work, family or social life… the folks who engaged in telling you what to do, how to do it , when to do it, why to do it and then inform you of how you managed to do it completely incompetently… you now know, who you don’t have a reciprocating relationship with. Non violent and good communication allows us all to stay safer mentally and physically. You do you … let them do them. Great video 😊
OMIGOD--thanks @e.kearns1590. I just corrected it and I appreciate the (gentle) alert. BTW, you handled that perfectly. First you complimented the work and then you gently indicated the error, downplaying it so I wouldn't be offended at the correction or consider you ungrateful for my EFFORTS. PERFECT,@e.kearns1590! A+ FOR YOU.
Since this is kind of a training video please try talking a little bit slower so to sink in well without having to replay. Its not just me, played for my whole class and we all agreed and subscribed😁
You are invaluable and I appreciate your work so much. I'm really doing the work to show up as a woman in her power in the corporate world and there are so many learning curves and set backs. Going to start accounting for the wins and things I can do differently next time.
i wonder what do you do when you have stalkers who simply ignore all the communication tactics youve tried? i tried when you do this, i feel, because ... and it doesnt work. I tried threatening them with reporting them to authorities. I tried asking why they are doing this because im obviously not interested and why they act like they are stupid and not understanding, nothing works. I had to change my daily routine hours so that i can stop meeting them (there are several men, not one) and it frustrates me. They are slimy, always smiling with a fake grin when i confront them, like they enjoy it. Yuck. What would shut them down completely? As a woman i cant fight them physically though i would if i could.
I love all of your suggestions, except the one about offering to do something instead of throwing our cash to a coworker's brain child. Isn't our time our most valuable asset? Opening that door to most coworkers is just enabling them to take advantage and they love that btw.
I agree @adriannam2157 that sometimes you just say NO. I agree so much that I devoted a short video to telling people how to do that effectively, removing argument :). Essentially it is "that may be but . . . I simply can't." No arguing, no discussing--just the BROKEN RECORD :)
😂😂 lol these responses are great and perfectly reasonable. But please remember in the workplace you're dealing with people who cannot be reasoned with. The people who require this kind or communication are already brain dead egomaniacs. The audacity of you speaking to them with such calm directness and clarity is usually a blow to their huge ego, because you will end up looking like the calm level-headed professional that you are, and they'll be left looking like they're unfit for purpose. Just be aware of the waters you'll be treading in when taking a reasoned approach to these nutcases in the workplace 😂😂😂.
While I agree with much of what you say, @twinningtwins4721, I think it is important to protect your boundaries regardless of the reaction of people with whom you cannot reason :). As always, it is about YOU and not them. Too much focus on reaction or even retaliation causes people to kneel and kiss the ring--and you don't want to do that.
@TheWizardOfWords absolutely. Totally agree with everything you said, and the tips you gave are brilliant. What humours me is the amount of strategizing that has to go into dealing with these nutcases in the workplace.
If only I had your strategies and expertise back in 2007, when I was ambushed relentlessly by my boss, HR, and a room full of standing, unidentified people. It felt like I was prosecuted and sentenced to burn at the Salem witch trials!
I've used some of these and seen toxic people explode in rage. They come unglued by sensible talk and tone because toxic people are infants inside.
I learned the “broken record” trick from you last year and WOW it’s so impactful.

YES! Amazing, isn't it?
I dislike saying “I feel” but rather “it appears that…..”
I have completely shut down around people. But these videos make me think I can get back in the game. ❤
I hope you get back in the game, @77Tadams
I shut down too.

Yes! They are not in control of themselves. Doesn’t matter how it is happening, but basic Christian demonology is true!

Hi Dan, love your work! A gentle alert for you: the thumbnail has a typo, just in case you'd like to edit it. Either way, great content, cheers!

Can you this for women in reaction to other women? They tend to be quite tricky and subtle and underhanded
Yes.
Yr the best. Love your tutorials .. Natural educator and comedian.

2:23 But not now, because I'm still speaking. heh heh
Such good information i'm binge watching
I say I'm sorry quite a bit. Also, if someone says they can't do something I don't ask again to have to hear the broken record. I usually get it.
Dude, you're so good

Thank you ✨
Yes I do b.c passive aggressive communicators exist. Thanks for your tips Dan!!

One coleague today who is very arrogant and racist said i needed a shrink, 😢
I know that’s right I am awesome 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
I just want to that say I like that you are able to communicate without using “right?” that is so common these days?
Oh how I LOVE “That may be, but…” ❤🥰🫠
One of my favorites--it allows others to make their points until they become exhausted, while you remain fresh :)
@ It truly does. It coupled with broken record 💿 is brilliant and gives me Peace ☮️ instead of being defensive. Many thanks for all your tips! 💙😎
Thank you 😊
Thanks!
Thank you so much, @NaimaG12. Your support is much appreciated :)
Thanks!
Many thanks for your support @elaynepanellist573
