Last night I watched the Netflix doc on Wendy Whelan "Restless Creature" and it was extraordinary; giving insight into the battles she fought (horrible curvature of the spine as a child) to become the supreme artist she is. Incredible expose of the short life of a prima ballerina and how at 47 she had to face "the end". But it wasn't and she found a way to keep dancing. Inspiring woman.
I watch this video over and over because the beauty of it distracts me from the fact that my husband is dying, There are few artists who are so captivating as Wendy Whelan,
I am late, he probably gone. But I hope you are still here, this song is very fitting, I hope you go on smiling like a child going into the cool remnant of a dream.......a little Jim Morrison to inspire you.
So very original, we will very much miss you Wendy, you danced with each partner in an new & extraordinary artistic & amazing way that literally drew the audience in. It's no wonder Mikhail Baryshnikov stated you "were the best". I will miss your performances. You brought ballet to a whole new level and topped it off with your "restless creature" performances.
why is wendy whelan the definition of ballerina. shes how old and still looking effortlessly beautiful. im gonna hate the day she takes her final bow. new york city ballet my fav company wont b the same. i love her dearly
Because of quarantine, we’ve been doing ballet classes on zoom, and today we had a ballet class and then we all watched on zoom, “This Bitter Earth” performed by Tyler Peck and Tyler Angel, and I was almost in tears it was so beautiful! Ballet is my passion and I love it with all my heart and it’s what I want to do when I grow older. When I watched this I was more inspired than I’ve ever been because Wendy, being an older person, is a gorgeous dancer and I’m speechless when I watch her. You can tell ballet is not only a beautiful thing that she’s invested into her body but it’s a beautiful thing that she’s invested into her heart and mind and soul. They dance beautifully together and it’s just amazing.
Oh, this is just so beautiful. I too am steeling myself for the day when WW takes her final bow at NYCB. No, the company won't be the same. She performed the first time I ever saw NYCB--my friend leaned over to me before the piece began and said "Wait 'til you see this one dance. She's incredible." Sigh.
The sheer brilliance of this piece is so masterfully choreographed and executed by Tyler and Wendy. These two are so perfectly paired, it's so breathtaking to watch, and the Dinah Washington/Max Richter music is the cherry on this sundae. This is my favorite performance ever. I love Ratmansky, but my heart belongs to Wheeldon.
love the choreography, but wish Wheeldon had better musical sense. There is nothing to inspire movement in this song. Compare this to Theme & Variations, or anything by Balanchine, who was musically astute, and well-educated.
Jayjen35 THAT IS NOT WHAT I MEANT, FIRST OF All, my mistake, i meant to say dust, as in, piece of dust referring to the lyrics. I love this song. When i first read the comment in my notification,,i was like OMG who would say that about that song, when i realized you were referring to MY COMMENT ,,my heart hurt for a second, no, no ,no this song is beautiful that's what my comment was trying to show, turning dust into something more...anyway,,had to clear THAT up...have a good one🤗

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, ever...
When Tyler lifts her at the end of this. Those few seconds are everything....devastatingly beautiful.

Beautiful, touching pas de deux by a master ballerina of her art.

OMG, Whendy, you live, and I live for you!

Robbie Robertson

Olivia Buonocore me too. so sad and frustrating to FEEL the music but not have a way to express those feelings.

franceseattle that's what makes her an AMAZING ARTIST,,,,,when you can turn a piece of dirt into something amazing and captivating....
Wow! Dina Washington is dirt??? About a billion singers and musicians just started projectile vomiting...
