Balanchine's fecundity is simply amazing. That he could choreograph both this ballet and Prodigal Son and Serenade and Agon and and and - we have an entire catalog of Balanchine to draw from. Surely the greatest, most prolific choreographer of the 20th century.
Absolutely hands down. So well put! He's the greatest next to Petipa. He's unsurpassed in his genre. He's his own genre! I'm proud to be from the country he loved with all his heart. He is the sole reason for ballet in this country. Viva Balanchine!
Yes, miss both Margaret and Damian. Both retired from NYC Ballet. This afternoon, saw this ballet with the Fourth Campaign danced by Andrew Veyette and Ashley Bouder. Both were excellent!
Beautiful, stop the rambling, enjoy the show. I saw this performed by the San Fransisco Ballet and its was spectacular. It was performed as the Americans that were held hostage in Tehran were returning home, each dancer had a yellow ribbon around her neck and it was just outstanding, they got a standing O.
This is a terrific vintage clip, I found it while searching something else, thanks for posting, I knew Margaret's mother, years ago in NYC At that time Damien was the talk of the town
Damian Woetzel is spectacular in this! I was never an M. Tracy fan; I always felt she projected "cuteness" and a strange sort of "miniaturization" of dancing. Sure, she was tiny, but so was Kay Mazzo, who danced as though she was a hundred feet tall.
Unfortunately I've come to associate this music with US aircraft carriers arriving somewhere, FAR away from their home base, ready to start another war and sow some more chaos around the globe.
balanchine was not an Atheist...... Facts ans love from vienna austia ..... where it all began........Haydn....Mozart.......Beethoven ......schubert......etc..........
ah well it might not be as technique sound as today, but that is all you have most of the time dancers that are statues machines, they dont know how to dance the role, just go through the motions all focused on form, not real feel or mime acting left unlike the past, and the nutcracker on pbs, well the costuming was good, but the dancing was sloppy it was a joke, and no feel or that balancine flamboyance he taught. the only ones that seem to have any life in dance are the russians and austrians.
Coreografia feia. Bailarina Feia. Figurino HORRIVEL!!! Nem sei porque estava salvo nos meus favoritos. Unica coisa que presta é a música da coda e a participação masculina na coda!
the new york city ballet today, the nutcraker two christmases ago they aired on pbs had good sets and costumes, but the dancing was sloppy and atrocious, not to mention much of dance in the theater today lacks feel, pure technique but no interperatation, save for the russian vagonova dancers. that they lost touch with how to dance the way balencine taught, and when they try to dance them today they do a lousy job most of the time that I was I am trying to say, In my opinion
LOL, this is easier than Black Swan, a few breaks instead of 32 f turns without stopping -- need football player thighs for that! Plus, she's the bad girl in the story.
Every ballet dancer if trained enough can do that many turns, but it'd be boring if they use that in every single ballet. Instead its amazing to see how the different steps are weaved together and coordinated perfectly with the music. :)
Theres a lot more to ballet than tricks, sure, doing 32 fouettés is difficult, but George Balanchine’s choreography was known to mess with dancers coordination. For example the en dedans pirouette combo that Tracy does at 7:15 messes with your balance a lot more than 32 fouettés would, not only are you doing turns moving forward, but you’re also switching what leg you stand on.

Fabulous Woetzel and Tracy, memories of Jacques D' Amboise, and the ever Marvelous NYCB TEMPI!!!!!!!!! This was Balanchine's valentine to America.
I tear up every time at the very end. The genius of George Balanchine!
SAME. Same same
There's none like him. His ballets always leave me in awe and tears even if there's no plot.
Отличная балетная школа! Браво!!!
She is an incredibly beautiful dancer, she makes it look so easy and effortless, and he is fantastic. Huge fan, love watching both of them.
Gorgeous and charming!
Superb. Damian's musicality and light jumping is amazing.
Yes, miss both Margaret and Damian. Both retired from NYC Ballet. This afternoon, saw this ballet with the Fourth Campaign danced by Andrew Veyette and Ashley Bouder. Both were excellent!
Чудесно! Красота! Настроение взлетает! Спасибо, праздник души!
such a joyous performance, can't stop grinning its so much fun to watch!
Nothing like a ballet to Sousa on Fourth of July or anytime. Happy Independence Weekend everyone!
When he lifts her into a leap it looks weightless and so amazingly graceful. He is such and amazing choreographer
I get emotional EACH AND EVERY single time I see the flag coming up. What a beautiful rendition of Americana. 🥰🥰🥰
Best version the the pas de deux I’ve seen!
This Choreography is just awesome!!
How joyful to see !
Thank you Mister Balanchine 🌹
And thank you wonderful dancers ⭐️✨🌟
That was one of the most spectacular energized pair I’ve ever seen doing this pas de deux. 😄 so inspiring
Ευφάνταστη χορογραφία, εξαιρετικά άρτια παράσταση. Όμορφη Αμερική (επιτέλους)
Very innovational lifts which remove the traditional tedium of the male ballet dancer.Exceptionally clever and colorful!Thank you.♡♡
Perfection 💐
This must have brought the house down 🎉🎉🎉
Fantastic... Happy upcoming 4th of July everyone! Here is to or beautiful country!
you're not an American so don't pretend to be! Crawl back to your hole you dirty snake!

Thanks for posting! Really spectacular!
I don't know what to say.... Wow!!!
Thank you
The camera person messed up the best part of it at the ending. That's annoying.
effing flawless!
Fantastico!!!!!!!!!?
This is superb!
This is a terrific vintage clip, I found it while searching something else,
thanks for posting, I knew Margaret's mother, years ago in NYC
At that time Damien was the talk of the town
amazing!
We are doing this song for my recital
Thank you Mr. Balanchine! I am utterly honored you thought of America whatta shame to leave it all bahind. ... 🎭
Wonderful! I've never seen this before.
Only negative things I could find - the "salutes are sloppy" and the camera work at the end.
WOW!!
BRAVÓ!!!❤

What are you talking about????
She is a little shaky at the very beginning, but once that wears off, damn honey.

This is patriotism when we were fighting fascism in the 40s. Now were are doing it in the usa.
My father was in the navy in the second world War.
Take heart, it's 2024 and still every time this is performed by the NYCB the audience applauds the Flag.
Damian Woetzel was the very best!
They do a good job of pretending they like each other
balanchine was not an Atheist...... Facts ans love from vienna austia ..... where it all began........Haydn....Mozart.......Beethoven ......schubert......etc..........
Bviou
Lovely Margaret tracy Hayden was much too old for the part….this is the real thing
Miss Tracy, pretty, likeable, is a kind of Kaptsova around the house. He, rough, stiff, in Europe would dance like entertainer in night clubs.
JUST ABOUT THE ONLY ONE BALLET BY HIM, THAT IS NICE, OF COURSE IN THE
CLASSICAL RUSSIN GRADITION., R VQUEZ

Hahaha! You are a joke, and by the sounds of it have never danced professionally in your life.
