Nice One Phil .. I appreciate your kind words, I am finding myself using resin less and try to use it when I think there is no alternative. It does amaze me how so many people in the comments think a piece has to have a use / function when the main function is to give years of enjoyment seeing how cool wood is when the beauty is coaxed out of it, which you always do brilliantly..
Phil I cann't say it enough but you AMAZE me EVERY time I watch one of your videos!!!!! You are truly a master craftsman and artist thank you Terry Binder and howdy Calvin
Phil you’re a brave man. I was quaking in my boots for you several times but you brought it home. Beautiful bowl and yes I agree the nature is the most beautiful part. Congratulations!!
Hi Phil. OK! That got a big WOW from both of us! I always share the end result with my wife and we agreed on a big WOW! So cool. Keep on being the weird turner guy because you end up with amazing things. Thank you! Cheers, Rick
That's a lovely piece! It's funny that you mention Andy Phillips. You and Andy are my absolute favorite turners. For very different reasons. You for keeping and highlighting the natural features and flaws of your pieces and Andy for the sheer genius of his creations.
Same here! Holes, borer tunnels, voids and bark inclusions are all elements of artful turnings. Naturally occurring cracks can also be good, sometimes. I fill large ones with coffee grounds and wood glue.
Love what you say about respecting the history of the wood; this is a brand new perspective for me, so thank you. Also love your inventiveness with your tools -- that's very inspiring.😊
This is wonderful bowl. I am impressed that a root will turn out like this. You need to display the two together. It’s just beautiful Phil. Thanks for the show. Joel
From scrap to a work of art! I love your imagination, come to life. I could easily see this on a wall or table as a statement piece. There's lots to look at. Beautiful😍! Nice work Phil👍🙂!
We are avid watchers and love your unique style but I have to admit we were watching through our fingers thinking it was going to be the first we did not like . How wrong we were once again an outstanding work of art we salute you sir
We see beauty, we both don't like resin we like to see the nature and beauty, each to their own yeh. You do make these type of turnings easy even when there obviously not, Oh thank you son in law for holding the piece while you carefully chisel the knub off. Top job just has it was with it's cousin. All the best from Lincolnshire UK
Hi Phil, It was nice to kinda meet your son-in-law, he seems like a good guy. Phil, I dont want to sound sappy, but your hands look so much like my dad's hands, every time I watch your videos, I get to see you do amazing things and I kinda also see my dad again. Keep up the good work and I'll see you next time.
You can take the most unassuming piece of wood and make something so beautiful. You're not crazy for seeing the beauty inside. ❤ I just love the interaction between you and your son in law. You need to teach him to turn. You can have dueling lathes.
I’m amazed that you were able to turn it and keep it in one piece with the big crack in it! Truly shows your skill and talent plus nerves of steel! 🫣 I love the contrast in colors between bark and interior along with all the interesting nooks and crannies. Also, thank you to Kelvin for helping you, makes him a good person and great son-in-law in my book! 👍💕
The other half was very nice last week, and yet you have made the sibling amazing. Love this apple, thank you Phil. But hey what a nailbiter at the end. See you next week Phil....Dan

Thank You Phil, Thank You Dave at Calmwood Creations....First half was a winner so now time for the second half. Life is good Phil. I enjoy watching these little "art" turnings. Your NOT CRAZY Phil !!! YOU JUST KNOW WHEN TO STOP...Calvin & Phil Team work.... TM
Catching up on my watch list. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece with us. I learn something every time I watch you at work and this video was no exception. Another work of art saved from the burn pile.
Hi Phil Super nice job, whole lot of nature and art combined in this piece. Say hello to Kelvin looks like he is an admirer the same as the rest of us. Take care Bob
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil yes a real beauty, it is such a contrast between the before and after. Amazing what you can produce for us all to watch and admire. See you next time.
'Less' is most definitely more! Your mastery of what to leave in place, rather than 'turn to round' is always a joy to behold. Great job, Phil, so much learned, once again. Thank you for sharing with us.
I love the free-form nature of a lot of these pieces of wood, especially root stock. Many times I've been a bit disappointed by how much turners remove to get to that inner nugget, and in most cases I can understand why. But in the case of this gem, the finished piece is not that much smaller than the original start stock, and that does me old heart good! You've paid perfect homage to the origin and the result is amazing. Most excellent, Phil. Three thumbs up! 👍👍👍
Hi Phil WOW what a magnificent and unique piece of Woodturning/Art. The piece of Apple Wood is beautiful and full of character I love the bark, the inclusions and the holes and nooks and crannies. Thank you for a wonderful video you explain everything and I love love listening to you. I like how you keep you pieces natural looking. It was nice to meet Calvin. Take care all the best Amanda xx❤❤
Art Art Art just love the beauty you find in your turnings. That is a large part of the inspiration I get from you. I try to not just turn a bowl but look for the beauty with in. I still have a long way to go but watching your videos is training my eyes to look for more in each piece I make. Thank you Phil. Have a great weekend! Dan
My friend I might add that I have a piece of cherry Burl on my microwave that has almost as many voids and holes and it's absolutely beautiful. You've been a part of how I see how artwork can be. Thanks for your inspiration and how to see things in a way that you might not see them. ✌️
'I appreciate what they do, and I prefer to do what I do' That's beautifully said Phil. I am a big fan of wood, and the natural beauty of it. In my opinion epoxy takes to much of that away. Even if pieces end up practically useless, I never use epoxy in my turnings. I enjoy your video's every week and look out for them. Keep doing what you do and greetings from the Netherlands.
Absolutely fabulous Phil. I was a bit concerned over the crack, kept thinking 'hang on in there wood, don't fail us now' and in your hands it was fine. Should be hung in the Louvre! My wife says some of my stuff should be hung in the Louvre as well. Ah no, she said the loo, my mistake. Nice to meet you Calvin, your sanding handling skills made this piece possible.
Thanks Phil, I'm only a little bit ahem, adrift today, ok quite a lot 😂 I'm trying to have my afternoon nap but it's too hot and I'm in pain so I've soothed myself to restfulness watching the apple sibling becoming something beautiful. Gorgeous, nature enhanced, love it. Cheers Phil 👍
I really wish it didn’t make me think of an ashtray…? I don’t even know why. It’s neat looking. I envy your great relationship with your son in law. It is a joyful seasoning even for a wood turning channel. I appreciate your channel much more than I know how to say. Thanks again for a great project and video.
I'm so glad you that you showed how you can turn the Lathe and use the Sand O Flex. I discovered that myself on accident one Late night in my shop. Awesome Phil and happy turning my friend 😊
Phil, turned out beatifully, a truly unique piece. This is probably one of the most mis-shapen pieces I can remember you turning. The result though was something really awesome. Liked seeing you have your son-in-law included in the video. Looks like he had a good time.
Really enjoy your videos. Love the natural and live edge pieces. Been turning a few years so I tried a couple of pieces. I have a grizzly lathe and the way tailstock is it makes it hard to turn with tailstock pressure. But managed a couple of natural bowls….👍
This is actually her husband Bud sorry for confusion. It’s the grizzly 0462 and tailstock angles forward. If you’re doing winged bowl it will hit banjo with tailstock support…..

This, together with the other 'sister' piece make an absolutely beautiful pair of bowls. It has been a TOTAL JOY to watch both of these bowls emerge from your lathe Phil. Both are true pieces of Art produced by a man with real Artistic talent & skillful hands & mind to be able to release such beauty from these 'pieces of wood', as most people would see them. So many turners would have automatically reached for the resin to stabilise the wood. Another great, relaxing & uplifting half hour with a true Artisan. Thanks my friend, keep safe & keep well.
I have only been turning for a couple of years and when I first started every piece of wood started out perfectly round and ended up perfectly round then I discovered you Phil and now everything I start with looks like it may be a great piece of firewood but ends up an amazing looking unusual shaped bowl, well nowhere near as amazing as yours, thanks again for the lessons. All the best to you. Regards Jim
Before I get started , the bowl just turned out so beautiful. You just turned a piece that I am always on the hunt for. If I see an unusual piece I claim it. I turn a lot of FOG and firewood wood. If it is not the look or profile you wanted, you are the only one that will know. You cant mess it up. You didnt turn it from a pattern!!!! It has so much color defferation tion and that HOLE (OH LA LA). I am always looking for an art piece.with all the holes, bark inclusion's, and worm holes. If i had as much talent and patient as you, mine might look as beautiful as yours someday. KEEP ON TURNING
"Looks kinda like a flower", exactly what I was thinking from the very beginning and you made it happen. I was getting nervous with the removal of the tenon especially when I could hear the ticking sound the gouge made hitting the edge of that crack. A steady had got it done. Thanks for sharing.
Just a beautiful piece Phil, as always!! Can I suggest making a video of you teaching Calvin how to turn. With you going through what a beginner should/shouldn't do. As a non-turner, I would really enjoy watching that. You seem to have a good relationship with your son-in-law, I have that with mine as well. 👍
Thank you, Ron! 😀 I've thought about doing just that many times. As it is, it takes me almost a whole week to turn and edit a piece. Something like you suggest would take much longer. If I could fit it in, some how, I would. Maybe some day!
well...I said last weeks piece was GORGEOUS...so...where do I go from there?!?...SUPER DOUBLE EXTRA GORGEOUS!?!...even before you started I knew it was gonna to be BEAUT! but it FAR surpasses my expectations!...love it
The one thing I really like about your turning is that you do a lot of projects that no one else would probably not even try . You always bring out the best of a piece of nasty looking wood . Awesome job once again ! Thanks for sharing .
I LOVE how you let a gnarly chunk of wood "speak to you" and you let it become a beautiful piece of preserved nature. Beautiful!
Thank you very much, Mary! 😊
Thank you kindly, Andy! 😊 And, of course, I agree completely! It's art, just appreciate it.
The peace in your voice. The knowledge in your hands. And beauty of what is left behind. Thank you.
Thank you! 😀
Well Said!
Oooo, what a nice thing to say!!
Beautiful art piece. That bowl turned upside down could make for a really cool pedestal for a fantasy character figurine.
I can see that! Thanks! 😀

Regards Jim
It's the most rewarding way to turn, Jim. I'm glad you are enjoying it, too, thanks! 😀
Yep, they are the best kind, Howard! 😀
Dang that thing is beautiful! That's also the reason I have such a hard time throwing away scraps! Lol
😀
If you truly want to use it as a candy bowl you could put a clear glass bowl in it. I love all your work Phil. 😊
That's a great option, thank you! 😀
Some more Phil magic!!!🧡💛❤🇿🇦
Voila' LOL! 😊
"Looks kinda like a flower", exactly what I was thinking from the very beginning and you made it happen. I was getting nervous with the removal of the tenon especially when I could hear the ticking sound the gouge made hitting the edge of that crack. A steady had got it done. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Bob! 😀
Hi Phil
I love the way you keep the naturalness of the wood . Beautiful bowl l lost my m&m's throw the hole😅😅😅😅
😀
Just a beautiful piece Phil, as always!! Can I suggest making a video of you teaching Calvin how to turn. With you going through what a beginner should/shouldn't do. As a non-turner, I would really enjoy watching that. You seem to have a good relationship with your son-in-law, I have that with mine as well. 👍
Thank you, Ron! 😀 I've thought about doing just that many times. As it is, it takes me almost a whole week to turn and edit a piece. Something like you suggest would take much longer. If I could fit it in, some how, I would. Maybe some day!
that is so beautiful. it makes my heart ache... thank you Phil...
Thank you, Jack! 😀
Thank you Dave for all the fun, different & unusual pieces you pass along to Phil.
And thank you Phil for turning them! 🙂
And thank you for watching and commenting! 😀
I think with lots of other wood types it wouldn't look so nice got to love Apple, good job Phil and your new assistant. 😁
I'm glad you like it, Lewis, Kelvin and I thank you! 😀

Thank you so much!! 😀
First thing before I forget tell Calvin I said hi second another favorite Phil love it
He's been reading the comments, Bobby so you just did! Thank you! 😀
The one thing I really like about your turning is that you do a lot of projects that no one else would probably not even try . You always bring out the best of a piece of nasty looking wood . Awesome job once again ! Thanks for sharing .
Thank you so much, Jon! 😀
That piece would have made a nice looking clock. Ty for taking us along
😀
The character of these last 2 pieces! Ah-maze-zing!!!
😀
Phil well thats another beauty of a piece you have there. It turned out just lovely, well done.
Thank you, Alan! 😀
