There's an air of despair in these properties as the damp devours the ceilings & walls, its almost as if they're crying out for salvation. Heartbreaking that the once grand building & it's fine furnishings are left forgotten & unloved 😥
The entire house is so beautiful. The woodworking is fabulous. The windows are gorgeous with the lead glass in them. I’m just so struck by the magnificence of the entire place. Even the servants quarters are amazing. I’m in awe.
I don’t live too far from that place. I often give a walk down here just to spend an hour or two reading the books. Think I’ve read like 7 of them so far. It’s just so peaceful surrounded by nature reading a book in one of those chairs.
Keep going there, it's a magical place.🧿

no new history who lived in this place in 1950/60's before it got passed new owers who abound it in 1970's
Someone needs to be given the chance to restore this beautiful home. It would do justice to trace its ownership so someone might be able to purchase and restore before it completely caves in.
What a shame that it's in this much disrepair. There are people who would love to fix it up. Some people just don't respect things, or have too much to care.
Once again it shows we need to be mindful of where are your treasures because you can not take material wealth with you when you die!!!

I'm sure other people have mentioned, but the pan that you put on its stand with a lid is in fact a chamber pot, but was shaped that way so people could straddle and lift their dresses or nightgowns without a problem.

It's totally heartbreaking to see this beautiful place just be rotting away. I don't understand how family members or even the government not put it up for sale at a reasonable price. This home is totally savable. An absolutely magnificent. I could only dream about finding a place like this to raise my family. Thank you for the video
It is so very much work to maintain a house like this.We recently had a tv series about a durch family buying and renovatie a castle like this and made a b&b out of it. You saw them work 12 hours a day, the work was never done
@@moniquelevering6558 It would still be worth it at least for me.. I looked in connecticut usa. And I looked in a 200 year old house. And I missed the old properties they were made very well. And yes you're right it is a lot of work and a lot of maintenance. But if you love the property it's all that matters.
Because there is no longer much work in the countryside of France. There is a reason it’s a centralised city population now
Dave was the first explorer I found on TH-cam years ago. He’s still my favorite. His English accent is so soothing that he sometimes puts me to sleep, like a beautiful story. I too, think someone was reaching out to him. The key, the ball, the closing door and then the sound of someone trying to get your attention.
His voice is VERY soothing to listen to. I put his videos on as background sometimes and it's a zen thing lol

Heartbreaking to see this beautiful place left cold, broken, and unloved by nothing but whispers and ghosts.
And the tables with holes are wash stands. the hole in the top held a ceramic wash basins, handled water pitcher and so on. Draws held towels and wash rags +.
I wouldn't be able to stop myself from clear plasticing the broken windows and trying to preserve the rest of it for as long as no one found it and putting wallpaper glue so I could put the wallpaper up before it fell off and rotted. I hope no crazy people find it this is someone's amazing life.❤ and God to be able to read all those books, I love books from before they change history

I’ve just come across this video and haven’t yet reached the “voices” part BUT around time stamp 37:50 he mentions the 2 windows he believed were both open…..they were😳 I thought they were both open too so I replayed to see if he was right and he was 😯

Not sure if anyone has told you yet but the little red box lid you found? Extra Rapides were fast exposure film slides. So people didn’t have to stay still as long. They could often be colorized, as well.

As an antique book lover, it makes me sick to my stomach to see those old leather bound books in a system of decay like that. Somebody should see them.
I love this home. When you were in the room, on the 3rd floor, the the key definitely fell on the floor. Also the ball w as not just rolling but seemed it came from no where. In the 1800’s and early 1900’s of a family had a child that was disabled like Down syndrome , autism and even epilepsy they would lock them away to be unseen. That room where the ball moved really reminded me of that.
What I love about this is that the explorer gets so excited about the property and its contents, plus that there isn't the constant cussing etc as with other channels.
Dave is just the best explorer. So respectful of the people, both present and long gone . He is so knowledgeable on vintage and current items he sees.. he is a pleasure to watch . No obnoxious banter .. can’t stand that … “just the facts ma’m.. “
The shear excitement on your face tells its own story. It breaks my heart to see such an amazing home becoming one with nature. I so wish it could be saved. The floors are so beautiful. Can't you just imagine the story's this home holds? Oh my goodness that window with the birds is just such a treasure. I love the velvet bedspread and the stepping stool. Hi Dave, those pans aren’t baby changing pans, they are piss pots (which is where the term came from), the people used them through the night to go to the toilet and the servants emptied them in the morning. Love from Australia
I think they're bidets rather than chamber pots. The pieces of furniture are definitely wash stands that would have had a bowl and pitcher with warm water on top.
Did you notice the red writing next to the bathroom light switch? My French is a bit rusty but I'm 99% sure it read "Danger! Naked feet!" and a lightning bolt next to it. Either someone was paranoid about electricity or this switch gave someone a nasty shock some time in the past!
The room with the giant fireplace in the basement was most likely the original kitchen and the current one was installed when the family downsized from a feudal estate to somewhat modern living.
@@Ragnar8504 I’ve seen these on other TH-cam videos and they definitely aren’t wash stands. They are chamber pots, I have seen them with old urine still in them
Possibly a wash basin bowl in the top but pretty sure it's a chamber pot in the drawer pull out.
I giggled each time Adam called them baby changing.. but only because I was imagining there were 100s of babies needing them.. the chaos.. its a baby house

Wow! This is the most amazing old Chateau I've ever seen!! So sad it's been left to ruins. The furniture alone is worth a fortune! Even though I respect the authenticity of keeping this home 'as is/was', I do wish some of the furniture and other antiques could be salvaged to live a new life rather than rot away. Thank you so much for showing us this amazing place!

Yes, bedpans, and the tables are washstands. The hole is to nestle the bowl in. No indoor bathrooms.

You are making me feel ancient !! I had one of those puppet show growing up with lots of different hand puppets . We use to throw plays all of the time .it was fun back then . We also had an old projector and screen and we watched movies like : Snow White , the sword in the stone , the 3 little pigs ,….. brought back so many memories writing this down 🥰🥰

I’ve seen a few of the other explorers videos & they don not compare to you. You are so thorough and respectful. Your commentary and excitement is absolutely masterful, it’s like you’re having a conversation with each and everyone of us. As soon as I hear “hello explorers” I get quite excited for what I’m privileged to see & hear. Sometimes you’re so giddy, excited, almost child like and then something falls or a door slams or we hear what sounds like someone trying to get your attention & you’re a bit shook, but carry on. You take us everywhere. Others reshot the same things over & over and never go into the kitchens, basements and etc. Thank you for sharing your adventures, you make them fun and leave me wanting more. That home is such a beautiful place, who wouldn't want to live in a place like that. Just think of how it was back in the day. I can't get over all the antiques and furniture left behind. I would love to have a place like that.
It is not a baby changing table at all 😊it is actually a sink and a bed pan ( on the bottom) . The hole is suppose to be for a wash basin to be placed in , the drawers are for toiletries and the bars on the side for towels 😊

It is not paranormal going on it was Dave who picked up the fork & threw it on the floor, go back & check when Dave opens the cupboard there is a fork on the shelf that he picks up. You are being deceived into believing its haunted

I think it's incredible the mirrors weren't broken! and it's amazing how gorgeous the stained glass windows are. Very beautiful château! I love the way some of the fireplaces have the windows above them. I also love the way that doors are basically decorated the same as the walls. They don’t stick out like closets, they just blend in with everything and you kind of have to guess where the door is! This would be one beautiful Renovation! It is so sad that with taxes and upkeep a lot of these shuttles have to be abandoned. Wonderful explore! Take care and many blessings!

Charles Magnin (1793-1862), the first puppet theatre historian, states in his Histoire des Marionnettes (History of Puppets, 1852, new version 1862) that puppets originated from ancient idols and therefore appeared in the context of ceremonies and in terms of religious customs. At the beginning of the 20th century, other researchers proposed different hypotheses.
Diverse Theories
From Germany, Richard Pischel (1849-1908) asserts that this type of theatre has only one geographical origin and that India is the birthplace of puppetry. To support his position, this philologist - specializing in India - makes references to the Sanskrit terms sutradhara (he who holds the strings) and sutraprota (puppet), which would denote the first written accounts of puppetry in world literature. Another argument in favour of this thesis would be the role played by Gypsies in the dissemination of this art throughout the world. Several scholars share this view regarding these itinerant puppeteers. On the other hand, other researchers like Hermann Reich (1868-1934) and Berthold Laufer (1874-1934) believe that Asia owes its tradition in this domain to Greek culture. However, 20th century ethnographic research on the first cultures and civilizations confirms the theory set forth by Magnin and his followers, among whom were Gaston Baty (1885-1952) and Otto Spies (1901-1981).
Researchers have well proven that puppets existed in religious rituals and mostly in those of “primitive” communities. At this stage they were not called puppets and were obviously not used as entertainment objects or theatrical elements. However, they were crafted to replace either humans or divine beings and were often manipulated. Traces of these can still be found in Africa and anthropological sources have confirmed this; from observations made on the Maori populations of New Zealand and in the Polynesian Islands to ritualistic dolls discovered in certain parts of Asia. Evidence from the 19th century has also shown the existence of puppets used during ritual, magic and shamanistic ceremonies by Native North Americans (see Native American Puppetry), whereas it is established that figurines were part of the Aztec culture before the conquest of Mexico by Hernán Cortés.
Indigenous Origins of Puppets
Puppetry could therefore have been born in each culture and community at a certain stage of its development and in a specific religious, ritualistic or shamanistic environment. However, the indigenous origin of puppetry theory does not answer the other question of the birth of puppet theatre. Most researchers agree that the birth of puppet theatre has the same origin as that of live theatre, which is also derived from religious and ritual ceremonies (see Rites and Rituals). However it is difficult to pinpoint an original moment in time regarding this matter as it is difficult to give a precise and global definition of theatre based on a clear distinction between ritual and theatre arts. Still today, puppet theatre in India and South East Asia provides several religious functions whereas African puppeteers are often part of much larger ritual ceremonies. The transformation of a rite into a profane spectacle was a very long process and depended on the culture of each people.
The European notion of dramatic art comes from a clear historical differentiation between the sacred and the profane, between the religious participation in a ritualistic event and the profane perception of a theatrical event. However, even European theatre has often included in its repertoire religious representations such as themes from the Passion, the Nativity (see Nativity Scenes) and the Mysteries during the Middle Ages. Today, the situation is more complex due to a return to the source element in certain shows performed by companies who use certain ritualistic components. Western theatre mixes participation and perception, and certain works are closer to certain ancient forms that can also be observed in certain types of shadow and puppet theatre in Asia.
But it seems undeniable that behind its very large diversity, and in spite of being unable to find a general definition, puppet theatre was indeed born “on the steps of the altar” in most countries.
It would be great if you spent a few minutes going through the books that they were reading especially as lily ones on desks and by bedsides, gives you an idea of what they thought valuable things to know, and their desires and mind sets thank you .

The MOST wonderful find that I've seen. So many artifacts to give hints of the former lives that lived there. Very little vandalism. You were right about the cost of maintaining such a massive home / property. Far more expensive than anyone would take on. Sad. Likely the last of the family lived there & when they died, that was it. 💙

I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed tagging along with you as you explored this home - what a fun activity you do! The stained glass windows are gorgeous - I have never seen such beautiful stained glass. And those marble fireplaces in every room. Although you said the home was last occupied in the 1970's, all the contents looked like they were from the late 1800's, early 1900's - perhaps instead of the 1970's, it was the 1870's when folks last lived there? Just a thought. The shoes you showed us were definitely not from the 1970's - it is most curious that they'd still be there if a family lived there in the 1970's.
I found the deep reverence you demonstrated for the place, the people who once existed and lived there; most touching. You let your imagination take you back into another time and place, and you must never lose that quality, it will serve you well throughout your life. The audio you captured downstairs sound like a young child. It be cool to explore the paranormal at this place.

Fantastic explore Dave! I can express in enough words how much I love your explores, thank you! It amazes me how much beautiful furniture and paintings were left behind! I always ask why? You had a child trying to reach out to you there. The key dropping and the ball on that little room. There were 2 child like whimpers in the basement just after the spoon was thrown in the basement. How incredible. Much love!
Oh my! I must watch this twice, so much to see, and the haunted attic! Wow! Thank you for this opportunity to see history in a place I could never go. Well done!!
Most interesting in all of that history is the evidence that children grew up there, the toys, beds, I love the shoes by the beds, all of the woodwork, the beautiful floors, imagine being a child in such a wonderland! The attic was freaky, there was something lingering there, an energy that dropped the key and moved the ball. It would be very cool to spend the night there and see what pops up.

Hey Dave. You’re one of my favorite explorers. You genuinely take care to respect these homes and past owners. I noticed though in your last two explores, you haven’t spent much time looking at details, showing us items in cupboards, photos, paintings and the like. I especially would have liked to see a close up of the wallpaper in some of the rooms. They were fantastic from what I could see. You have more of a faster sweeping of your pans rather than a slow, steady one. It’s possibly a time issue since there were two of you or perhaps not wanting us to see a name. If the family made a major historic discovery, I’m wondering why the family or town hasn’t preserved this place. Love you, love the house!

That was a beautiful find! The windows, fireplaces & bookcases all amazing. I really wish you'd take a lil time to look for the passageway behind walls because many homes with staff had secret passages in/out of rooms. Back then different classes of people were kept separate. That's why they didn't use main staircase. But I'm sure some were treated better than others by landowners. It would be a full time job managing a home & staff that large! Thanks Dave for a lil walk into the past!

You’ve had a few things “fall” in houses lately. They’re just begging for interaction and trying to reach out, probably out of loneliness. They must see something in you that they like. Allow them to speak. Investigate those places paranormally. Love your vids!!☮️❤️
I totally agree with you. The spirits of the houses not all but some and dave as Iv said before has got a connection with spirit. Because if there is one they will always show dave something. He's so lucky he's got that such a beautiful gift to have x
