Scott! I have searched TH-cam several times over the past year looking for a clear and concise tutorial to help me understand these MIDI concepts. I have watched several videos and downloaded books on the topic. They all explain the basics but do not connect the dots with a practical working example. I am so grateful that I found this video today! It is a game changer. Please accept my donation of $10 for this compilation of awesomeness! I love the GIFs, makes an otherwise dry & confusing topic humorous and fun to watch. Thank you, thank you, super thank you. Best ever.
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that :) and I’m glad you found the video so helpful. I think this is definitely one of the best videos I’ve done, so I’m glad to see people getting an understanding out of it. Thank you again 🤘
Hi Scott, This is the best midi tutorial across all tutorials and truly real scenario that you explained. Thanks and a looking forward for more such interesting and problem solving interesting guidance.
Thank you, and glad it’s helping you 🤘
I second this comment! Thank You!
Wow, you made that so simple. I've been so confused about this topic 🔥
Glad it helped you!
Another great video, thanks!
Thanks. This explained everything. I am a midi expert now. At the very least, I'm no longer a midiot.😄
This is great Scott. I’m looking to get better with rack mounted synths from the prehistoric era. Thanks for this.
Thanks for this! It solidified and clarified my understanding of MIDI in a guitarist's setting.
Now I finally got all the MIDI terminology. Thank you!
Excellent tutorial, thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to share your know how. Very helpful for me for sure.

Thank you! 🙏
Well done! The funnel hierarchy helped me to understand the differences in the message "types" and what they truly control. This was the basic information that I really needed, and that everyone else skipped over and then went straight into the more complicated material.
Thanks! Glad you found it useful 🤘
Exactly the video I needed to program our live shows. Thanks!
Glad to help, enjoy the programming 🤘
This is a great video! Thanks for this!
Thank you 🙏
Dude! This was great! I’ve definitely experienced the headaches you talk about but thank you for explaining the hierarchy clearly!

Glad it was helpful!
GREAT tutorial man! very useful...
I keep coming back to your videos because you're an incredible teacher - truly. My husband and I are learning so much from you. I'm an old school musician and back in the 90's/00's we just didn't have this kind of tech readily available so we never learned how to do anything beyond stomping on individual Boss pedals on a massive pedal board. But now that we're back playing out big shows, I'm trying to get us fully up to speed on the latest tech that can make the job easier, and you keep delivering! We've got equipment that we've only scratched the surface on learning but you're blowing the doors wide open for us. THANKS AGAIN!
Thank you 😊 I sincerely appreciate that, and I’m glad you have been enjoying the channel!
Ha! Yes old school here too! I started before fuzz pedals were even available....had to rely on tube amp distortion...but then the blessed Big Muff appeared on the scene to save us! LOL! Look at what musicians have now...AMAZING!
Very nice of you for explaining in such an easy way..!!
Thanks 🤘
Thanks Scott …. This information is exactly what I was looking for and it is presented in an easy to understand manner.
Thank you Bill 🤘
A GREAT primer on midi. Salute sir!
Hi Scott, great share! Please keep doing this. And I love your cover videos, too.
Thank you 😊
One of the best explanations I have ever seen.... THANK YOU!!!
Thank you!
Thank you 👍 I have exactly this problem on my MPK Mini Plus and will have the back off tomorrow with confidence now 😁
Very clearly presented. Just what I've been looking for to start integrating my midi gear. Like the funny commentary gifs too.
Come for the tech, stay for the memes 😅
Genuienly satisfied with the amount of information I left with after watching this my guy.
Thank you 🙏
Scott, you’ve helped me so much. I am now able to use my Hotone Ampero Control with my M5 and I’m super hyped. Thank you so much for the upload. I am subscribing 🤙
Awesome! Glad it helped 👍
Hey man, the best compliment I can give to this video is you are the Rick Beato of wireless gear, midi, and automation. Thanks, this is exactly what I have been looking for. More of this content please.
Man, that is one hell of a compliment!! Thanks, I sincerely appreciate that 🥹
Yes, and the Darrel Hall of Hall & Oates!

THANK YOU! You saved my mental health! I was starting going crazy finding no tutorials, posts or videos anywhere! This helped me a lot learning about hardware and what can I do by daisy chaining and what I can't, wich was one of my main doubts, and also learn about the programming! THANK YOU!
Glad to help! MIDI headaches are no joke 😂

Scott, thanks for this video, it was excellent! I think you have set the highest standard for instructional videos. I have never seen anything so clearly and thoroughly explained. With regard to MIDI, which is what brought me here, you are doing exactly what I want to do. I had started coding in Swift and was successfully controlling my midi device via Bluetooth but now that I know about the Onsong app I will follow your lead. Thanks a million for documenting this. Cheers Pat
Thank you! I sincerely appreciate that 😊😊
Thank you for this very informative tutorial, Scott!
Glad it was helpful! 🤘
Very helpful video -- Thanks!

Thank you so much. It was very helpful and right to the point.
Thanks! I definitely feel like this is one of my best videos 🤘
This is one of the best explanations of MIDI I’ve ever seen. Been a music producer for years and own some MIDI based gear, but I have always been frightened by these settings. Thanks for explaining it so good!
Glad it was helpful!
Big Thank You! Very close to setting up my MC-6 and your video really helped me get a better grasp. Great visual aid's and well described. The MorningStar Editor is now making sense to me. I have a ton of pedal's and instrument's that would benefit by implementing midi - opening them up their potential!
Glad to help!
Brilliant, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

Haha glad to hear that! Thank you
Great midi tutorial mate! Cheers!
Thank you 😊
I wish I could like this video more than once. This is amazing for a total noob to MIDI like me. Very clearly explained
Because of this video, I was able to get my Line 6 POD HD500X and Boss Katana MKII to communicate with each other
Awesome! Glad to help. Thanks for the kind words 🤘
Hi. This was exactly the kind of video I was looking for. Thanks
Thanks, glad to help 🤘
Great tutorial, thank you👍
Glad you liked it 🤘
Thank you for this!
Scott,
Absolutely love your channel. I’ve always been interested in learning/using MIDI but it seemed quite complicated. Thank you for putting this video together to break down the hierarchy and general concepts. Very, very helpful and insightful. Makes much more sense when you show a real world example. I’ve used Onsong for at least a decade to arrange my music and set lists but never used the MIDI function. Definitely going to dive in and give it a go. Thanks again!
Thanks! Glad you found this video helpful 🤘
Agreed!
Thank you so much! Now it makes sense
Glad to help 🤘
Out working cruise ships - this helps - great teacher thx 😊
Glad to help 🤘
What a great rundown! I feel like I'm ready to mess up with MIDI now. Just the guys doing the app on the iPad are not the brightest. I feel like they wanted to be less confusing by starting with 1, but they ended up adding much more confusion.
Perfect video, just what I needed to dabble in MIDI
Thanks 🤘 I think I’m definitely most proud of this video, so I’m glad you found it useful!
Hello Scott ! This is the BEST by fay video to teach the basic of Midi. I am attempting to use my DAW (S1) with hope of controlling VST & Multi-Timbral VST's. No one has gone as far as you to explain the concepts of how I might go about doing such? I am now excited to try again! I am tired of building out templates for each articulation in an orchestra. That takes forever and I end up with a Massive Template. Which neither of those are desirable at all.
Thanks, I’m glad it had helped so much. Midi is still a headache often times… even for me. But it’s still really helpful!
Hi Scott. Great job, I get it now.
Awesome 🤘
Exellent vid ...thanks
Thanks!
SUPER great video! Ill be back for automating my HX stomps for our live set.
Thank you! Glad you found the video helpful. Not having to pedal-dance opens up a whole new world for performance 🤘
thankyou for actually saying something of worth :)
Really useful info and clearly presented. Thanks. Subscribed
Thank you!
Such a usefull video, congrats!
Thank you 😊
Great video. I'm trying to figure out how to use my Akai MPK mini for Ableton. Mind numbing stuff.
👍👍. Great video. Really well explained. Midi has been a subject I've only half understood for years and try and stay away from it!!
Glad it was helpful!
