    In today's video, we are checking out the incredible B Beat by M Live, which is a standalone device that can be used to replace your laptop for live shows for musicians. This device can do multi track backing tracks, click track, video, midi (and lighting), and much more all by itself without needing to use a laptop live. This is pretty incredible, and I walk through how to set it up and use it for your live shows. Many thanks to M Live for sending me this device to review for the channel. I'm truly blown away by the power of this device.

    M Live was smart to send it to you for review. I can't think of anyone better who could present such an amazing, feature-rich, piece of gear, without overwhelming the audience. Amazingly well thought out unit, and I agree it is fairly priced, putting into the hands of musicians that can take advantage of it's power and utility. Kudos all around! 👏

    Thanks for another terrific review/tutorial. I've been a gigging musician for almost 45 years and am constantly amazed by the technological advances that have become available to performing musicians during that time. Scott, I'd be interested in learning - perhaps other viewers would as well - where you see technology taking the performing musician in the *next* 45 years.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dude I can’t even imagine how the tech is going to get! A lot of people are worried about AI, and it will be interesting for sure. But I can’t even imagine how the tech will evolve in the next few years. Anything that makes life easier I think will be adopted. In ears, direct rigs, etc. it will be super fascinating to see!

    I don't know how you always find this gear, but this thing is awesome! We do live band karaoke so we rely on synced video quite a bit for lyrics screens/music videos. This looks like it could be a great back up option for our Ableton setup. Thanks for sharing

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh nice! Yeah this definitely would be a great option! They actually DO have it where it lines up directly with karaoke. Look into it more, it will follow exactly with the lyrics like karaoke. I had to cut some stuff from this video, so I didn’t include that. But it has that feature as well!

    Damn! I wish I knew about this product sooner. Small enough to put into a shelf, probably very light, safer than taking a laptop and interface (especially when traveling) and can do more than just playing tracks. Probably will use this to attach it to my hi-hat stand with a mic clamp and use a small pedal to start and stop songs with just a few foot steps to make it easier. Thank you so much for the full tutorial. I'll know how to handle this thing when I have it in my hands.

    I'd been very much interested in the Idoru Backing player, and I always wish these units had cue markers and loop points, so you could go to practice and just focus on the parts you need learn for new tracks you are making, but these units only have Start, Stop. I actually use Denon Prime Go as my backing player because if has 8 Cue points. One day maybe.

    This thing is going to be so handy. Right now the laptop we use on stage isn't the best so we have to prerender out the back tracks and video to an mp4 and play the set through windows media player =P Seems a lot better than buying a laptop that can power everything though the DAW and easier to manage than rendering out a new set and moving it across however many flashdrives and uploading whatever. Appreciate you sharing this^^

      I’m currently using an “ultra short throw” projector and a cheap projector screen I found on Amazon. I kind of go over it in this old video of mine: th-cam.com/video/Wnwo3gjjbMs/w-d-xo.html

    Love the MBeat, actually im on a big Live Band and yesterday just before the Show we had a problem with the power supply. It was turning on but not leaving the Inicial Logo, So no Play, Stop, Playlist, nothing. But still light up and have power. Sundely i tried to put my Powerbank of my phone ant guess what, it works, so for now, 5 months after, the power supply dead on me, not enough power on the Ac adapter i guess. Just ordered another on amazon. Ugreen. But anyway is a good product, to bad the power suply is not stronger. Now i ordered another Mbeat for backup Spare, we never know and also the power supply extra..Cheers and nice video. ;)

    Fantastic video and it's probably what will push me over the edge to purchase this. I've been curious about it, and this explains everything I needed to know. Of particular interest is the ability to include midi light shows AND video. That's crazy cool. Also, I'm just dying to get away from a laptop for live performances. One question I have is, would the iConnectivity PlayAUDIO12 work with two of these in the same way that it does between two laptops to create a redundant playback system?

    Hi Scott! So much great information! I just bought you a few coffees! Thanks so much! I am starting a new project where I will need backing tracks (for first time) and have been thinking of buying a new laptop and an audio interface, and now I see this. The one thing I don't like about this device is the MIDI connector (which will be very important for me). I am not so confident with that connector, versus a traditional 5-pin one. Maybe it is as good - I don't know :-(

      I saw the coffees, thank you! That was really cool of you 🤘 Glad you enjoy the channel.
      I do wish the output wasn’t 3.5mm midi, but using those adapters that I have you can get it from 3.5mm to 5pin midi and it does work well, so it’s worth looking into 👍 I wish it was just 5pin, but it does still work

      OK - thank you Scott! :-) Very interesting device! I particularly like the ability to send 6 audio channels (drums, bass, etc.) to my mixer where I can control the in-ear mix to the likings of the different musicians. This seems to be something I could "not" do with a laptop which would stream all tracks at once to an audio interface via the USB port.

      OK, I correct myself after watching one other of your videos showing single file playback approach (with right and left channels) and the multitrack approach using USB and audio interface with many outputs, using a PC or iPad.

      Scott, may I ask if you know if this would work with Android, considering I want to output MIDI tracks as well? I seem to find that the USB port of an Android can only be set for audio or MIDI, but not both at the same time. (I ask because my wife just purchased a nice Android tablet for her dad, but he doesn't want it. I'm trying to figure out if it could be helpful to me, to drive mp3's "and" MIDI out. Else, we will just return the tablet. Then, I would have to choose between a new PC and audio interface, versus the B.Beat.) Thank you!

    Thanks for an outstanding review of this product. I perform primarily as a solo or duo act. I create backing tracks on a keyboard as midi files and, on occasion, purchase midi files and then modify and arrange the tracks as needed, including adding the superior sounds on my keyboard. I then save them as either high quality mp3 files or wave files, usually leaving out the piano and organ parts. I'm assuming that importanting an mp3 file would just take up one track on the B Beat containing the entire audio file for playback. Correct? Alternately, could I use the midi connection to play an imported midi file in mulititrack form, picking up the sounds and midi commands from my keyboard? Hope the questions are clear. Thank You
