M Live was smart to send it to you for review. I can't think of anyone better who could present such an amazing, feature-rich, piece of gear, without overwhelming the audience. Amazingly well thought out unit, and I agree it is fairly priced, putting into the hands of musicians that can take advantage of it's power and utility. Kudos all around! 👏

Thanks for another terrific review/tutorial. I've been a gigging musician for almost 45 years and am constantly amazed by the technological advances that have become available to performing musicians during that time. 1) after a year, how are you liking it? Everything still working well and has it been easy to implement at shows?
    2) do you use a projector or monitor live for video, or do you send hdmi to the house projector or something? I’m just wondering logistically how best to run each output to FOH, projector, and click to the band

Hi Scott! So much great information! I just bought you a few coffees! Thanks so much! I am starting a new project where I will need backing tracks (for first time) and have been thinking of buying a new laptop and an audio interface, and now I see this. The one thing I don't like about this device is the MIDI connector (which will be very important for me). I am not so confident with that connector, versus a traditional 5-pin one. Maybe it is as good - I don't know :-(

OK - thank you Scott! :-) Very interesting device! I particularly like the ability to send 6 audio channels (drums, bass, etc.) to my mixer where I can control the in-ear mix to the likings of the different musicians. This seems to be something I could "not" do with a laptop which would stream all tracks at once to an audio interface via the USB port.

OK, I correct myself after watching one other of your videos showing single file playback approach (with right and left channels) and the multitrack approach using USB and audio interface with many outputs, using a PC or iPad.

Scott, may I ask if you know if this would work with Android, considering I want to output MIDI tracks as well? I seem to find that the USB port of an Android can only be set for audio or MIDI, but not both at the same time. (I ask because my wife just purchased a nice Android tablet for her dad, but he doesn't want it. I'm trying to figure out if it could be helpful to me, to drive mp3's "and" MIDI out. Else, we will just return the tablet. Then, I would have to choose between a new PC and audio interface, versus the B.Beat.) Thank you!

I'm somewhat torn making a decision. I really like the footboard format of the P1. I see you can play/pause a file with a foot switch, but is it also possible to also select next file to play with the B-BEAT? Thank you for the awesome videos and all your advice Scott. You rock bro!

Small enough to put into a shelf, probably very light, safer than taking a laptop and interface (especially when traveling) and can do more than just playing tracks. Probably will use this to attach it to my hi-hat stand with a mic clamp and use a small pedal to start and stop songs with just a few foot steps to make it easier. Thank you so much for the full tutorial. I'll know how to handle this thing when I have it in my hands.

Hi Scott, firstly thanks for the great content. This channel is a real goldmine for finding some amazingly handy gadgets including this one which I bought almost solely based on your demo.
A question I have about this device that I hope might be an easy answer for you is about the MIDI functionality.
I want the B-Beat to control my lights on MIDI channel 16 using the DOREMIDI MTD1024 but also a number of other devices on different MIDI channels.
I have programmed a single DMX light fixture with a single track of MIDI in Studio One 5, which is running fine on MIDI channel 16 through a NEKTAR MIDIFLEX 4 USB MIDI interface into my DOREMIDI MTD 1024.
The trouble is that when I export that same MIDI file and upload it with its corresponding audio track the B-Beat plays the MIDI file back on MIDI channel 1 and at a much slower tempo (the audio plays back fine).
There don't seem to be any MIDI track output channel settings on the B-Beat and I suspect that I might need to look into editing the MIDI file at a coding level to have any hope of using a multi channel MIDI file with the B-Beat so the MIDI lighting and MIDI guitar processor messages can end up on their own discrete channels.
Have you encountered an/or solved this issue in your time using the B-Beat?

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

I can export a MIDI file for multiple midi channels and it works great on the B Beat. I do this in Logic. I had a consultation call with a guy who had a similar issue as yours and it was a problem with his DAW. Logic Pro is for sure able to export midi in multiple channels, so that’s my best guess as to what’s happening with yours

Hey, thanks for making the video - this piece of gear looks fantastic! I'm currently reviewing my live setup which is an iPad running Camelot connected to a Quad Cortex via USB. The iPad runs the backing tracks, click tracks and midi automation to the QC (it also uses the QC as an audio interface to send backings/click). I want to make the setup more robust - connectivity between the iPad and the QC can be dicey if the iPad is also charging, and I'd like to stop using the QC as an interface. So my question is primarily around sending midi CC messages from the b-beat. You showed it working in your video, but I'm wondering how it's done? I had a skim through the manual and it looks like the b-beat needs midi files uploaded to it? Also curious about using the b-beat on the fly, in the heat of the moment on stage (if you've had that experience with it). Thank you.

Great detailed info. Thank you. I notice it says that it's a 16 out mono or stereo 8 output on their website. How would I use it to be a 16 output mono set up? Are the outputs TRS and can be split with a splitter cable? And I'm guessing the headphone jack is also the additional 2 outputs and TRS?
Also if I want to us the midi portion for lighting, and use a software for the lighting. Do I need to have some form of hardware lighting board with midi for the B beat to run my lights via midi file, or can I still use it if I create my lighting show with a software on my laptop using the software lighting ( like soundSwitch software) and then exporting the midi file to B Beats. Sorry if it's a stupid question, but hey I'm asking. lol Thinking of buy thing this unit so just want to make sure it's all that I need. You would need a TRS to 2 TS splitter cable to get that many mono outputs. I normally encourage people to consolidate as much as possible. 16 outputs for backing tracks is too much IMO. For midi to lighting I have a video on that here: th-cam.com/video/3Xm7Rep90Is/w-d-xo.html

Thnx Scott! I do agree with you that I don't want 16 individual playback tracks for live performance. But it's nice to know that you can get more tracks out of the one unit.
If I do split TRS to TS per output. Even though it's 2 mono outputs. Can you control individual volume control when sending it to a mixer?

Thanks for an outstanding review of this product. I perform primarily as a solo or duo act. I create backing tracks on a keyboard as midi files and, on occasion, purchase midi files and then modify and arrange the tracks as needed, including adding the superior sounds on my keyboard. I then save them as either high quality mp3 files or wave files, usually leaving out the piano and organ parts. I'm assuming that importanting an mp3 file would just take up one track on the B Beat containing the entire audio file for playback. Correct? Alternately, could I use the midi connection to play an imported midi file in mulititrack form, picking up the sounds and midi commands from my keyboard? Hope the questions are clear. Thank You

Here are my thoughts after using an iPad/Stage Traxx 3 for backing tracks extensively. 1.) I love the simplicity and portability, 2.) Having no lyrics is the biggest bummer (unless you rig the video output somehow to display them, which would be a feat to accomplish.), 3.) 128 GB max storage is limiting, especially when using multitracks. Does this have option to connect external storage/flash drive?, 4.) It would be nice if it could accept midi commands as well as send them... for instance with my iPad I can use an iRig blueboard to start/stop songs and advance the playlist to the next song with the footswitch. Having to start it manually with your hand is a bit of an inconvenience., 5.) Lastly, this could be really cool as a portable karaoke machine - it would be a nice improvement if it could read the karaoke .CDG format for the video output.

Great that it can access external storage via USB, but having an external drive dangling of the device while it's mounted on a mic stand isn't great. Not to mention that it would prevent other use of the USB port (like the wifi pen) without a USB hub (also dangling?). Another question I had was does it have the ability to capture/create MIDI tracks like StageTraxx 3 does? Or did you have to create that in an app on your computer? And how is it powered?
Thanks for all you do Scott! You're a gift to modern musicians.

I should have addressed that, and I don’t know why I didn’t. I thought the screenshot would be enough, and I should not have just left it at that. It’s 128gigs. If you use MP3s instead of WAV (high quality mp3 sound just as good as wav) and don’t go too crazy with too much video, you should be good! I wouldn’t put all 300 of my songs I have tracks for on here though haha And midi does have to be made on the computer 👍
