Agreed. Nintendo historically has not had the best track record for their console finishes, but with the Switch 1 it does look like they’re be crossing the finish line stylishly. And this direct definitely proved that. Probably one of the best they’ve done in a long time with new Mario stuff, a new Zelda, finally providing Metroid Prime 4, and some heavy third party announcements like Dragon Quest, Marvel VS Capcom and Ace Attorney.
I think that's because they're aware that the average person won't be able to get the new Switch until 2027 because of scalpers I also believe this raises the odds of backwards compatability

The Marvel vs Capcom collection is a very big deal. Most people thought the series was dead after the last game, Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite didn't do well + alot of behind-the-scenes drama between Capcom and Disney/Marvel. Plus, the most recent ports for only some of these games came out during the PS3/360 era...and they got delisted. The fact that we are getting all of them & The Punisher is pretty mindblowing.
It was made all the more mindblowing by the fact that SOMEONE at Nintendo knew how to market the release. Using "I'm gonna take you for a ride" as the opener and closer, and the NOA twitter account using the phrase "Its Marvel baybee" was sur-REAL
It helps that we're through the period of Disney trying to devalue the IPs it didn't own by not representing them. Axing the Xmen and F4 from all their games and replacing them with Inhumans was never going to work. And now Disney owns Fox. So there's probably a lot less legal stuff to worry about, ironically, since it's all under one company now.
On top of that, these classics are getting online and ranked modes. I wouldn't be surprised if MvC2 makes a huge comeback tournament wise. People outside the sphere do not realize how big MvC is, these are some of the top tier fighting games of all time.
@quiquiqui420 Might be more optimistic than that. X-Men were cut from Infinite because it was promoting the Infinity Saga. Now they're coming to the MCU, so they're back in the games.
The Nintendo direct was like a diver diving off the diving board doing 3 summersaults in the air, before perfectly diving through a ring, touching the bottom of the pool and swimming back up through the ring, and bowing to the crowd.
I wonder if the massive amount of new content we’ve had in the last year or so is due to game delays during covid, like we’ve had more Mario and Zelda content in the years after their respective big anniversaries than in the years themselves
My guess is they made some kind of new physics engine or control scheme or other tech, and built the basketball game as a test case, then added it to Switch Sports because you might as well get some value out of it but you can't really release it on its own.
Switch is probably the best console for Mario RPG related games in Nintendo’s history. We have: - 2 Mario + Rabbits - Mario rpg remake - new Mario & Luigi - one new Paper Mario (Origami King) and the remake of Thousand Year Door. - plus the NSO stuff that I think is the original Paper Mario and Superstar Saga. What a good time to be Mario RPG fan :)
This can be said about a lot of Nintendo series on Switch, funnily enough. Nintendo was firing on all nearly all cylinders this generation on the games front.
I was not surprised at all to see Prime 4. It made all the sense in the world to finally show it here, one of the last big Switch games in the last big direct.
I also wasn’t surprised but I’d been trying to tell my friends the entire time that it would be at the direct so, when I saw I thought “YES, I WAS RIGHT!!!!!” So I still had a very strong reaction.
For me, I thought it would be strictly a next gen game. So I didn’t expect it. The head of Nintendo even said they were only announcing products that would launch in the latter half of 2024. But now… looks like it’s a cross-gen release! I’m guessing at least it will come out on both systems like Twilight Princess or BotW
@@John6-40That was definitely Switch 1 footage. Looks like Prime Remastered but a bit more detailed and a bit blurrier. Too blurry for a generational leap
Ace Attorney Investigations 2 was my personal highlight! Played the fan localization of it and loved it a lot, and I don’t think any AA fan expected for a revamp of not just the first, but for the SECOND game as well. It has literally been 13 years since the Japanese version came out, and I am so hyped to play the games again.
The fact that a whole new zelda game: Wasn't an opener, Wasn't a closer, And arguably wasn't even the hypest mid-roll game, just shows how this direct was cracked out of its mind.

It’s insane how effectively Nintendo is competing with Sony and Microsoft in these events, even when the system is on its way out. The Sony and Microsoft systems are in the prime of their life, while the Switch is less than a year away from its successor, and yet, Nintendo is still putting out a show comparable to or even surpassing the showings of the other companies.
not that surprising. sonys gaas push is flaming out and they canceled a bunch of games which left a big gaping hole in their schedule. MS makes good showcases but can't deliver on the games and then they went multiplatform which renders buying an xbox pointless

Seeing Nintendo's big 3 represented in some way/shape/form with Mario in Mario & Luigi Brotherhood, Zelda in her first (yup, first) leading role in a LoZ game in Echoes of Wisdom and Samus in Metroid Prime 4 was just a huge overload of Nintendo goodness.
This Nintendo Direct really was a four-layer of frosting cake where also the cake itself has a layer of buttercream in the middle, but then like another layer of a different kind of buttercream, maybe like a Raspberry one or something. It really did have multiple layers and then all of the frosting and then like stuff on top, and a BIG FLOWER, really big frosting flower on top. That really was this Direct.
Totally agree about him having a bit of something extra in his expression before revealing MP4. I saw his little smile and just knew that he was breaking character because he knew how big a deal this was.
i feel like "Pixel HD" woulda worked better than "HD 2D" if only for the fact the latter continuously makes me yearn for games with paper mario-like design approaches, only without everything being paper and the 2d style being basically any style. would love to see toriyama's dragon quest art come to life with a full on anime art style in-game instead of pixel art some day (not that theres anything wrong with what we got either, this is fantastic)
I love how Steve Job's method of presenting is SO famous that now any time ANYONE does a final announcement of something exciting, it's called a "One More Thing".
Super Mario Party hit for me. The last one was a return to form and mario party has always been one of the less-talked about games to play together. Mario Kart and Smash usually come first, but I hope Mario Party comes back to the table. Hoping that happens one day with an ultimate title that includes an insane amount of past maps & mini/games, game-unlockable skins/outfits, and secret characters
It’s wild to think about how Prime 4 was announced at the Switch’s first E3, and now it’ll potentially be the Switch’s swan song. Mario & Luigi being back made me SO happy. I recognized the artstyle and was like “Mario & Luigi? It’s Mario & Luigi!” and my brother and I got so excited! And it looks so good!
I honestly see people more hyped around these announcements while I wasn't particularly shit-house about a lot of it. So I'm glad most people are getting a bang for their buck here
I know I’m in the minority, but The Hundred Line was the most hype announcement for me. I’m a big Danganronpa fan, and this is from some of the same people behind that (along with Rain Code, which released last year), and the Zero Escape series.
I think the reason people have liked this Direct so much is because, since we are in the last stretch of the Switch’s life as the only Nintendo console around, people were expecting like 1, 2 at the most, big announcements. Instead Nintendo pulled FIVE OF THEM with a bunch of updates and smaller games in between. It’s clear that even though the end of the Switch is in sight, Nintendo still wants to treat it like the amazing and successful console that it is. I honestly believe that the Switch will at least run for 3-4 years alongside Switch 2. The last first party releases maybe in 2026 and after that it’s gonna be the typical licensed and sports games that every console gets in its twilight years. And if you think that’s wishful thinking, the 3DS ran alongside the Switch for THREE AND A HALF YEARS, and it was nowhere near the success of the Switch.
I'm thinking about the same and truthfully it wouldn't hurt nintendo to keep the switch around even after the new one releases as nintendo has never actually been without 2 "systems" before excpet for the short time it takes to fully release the next "big" one.
I was really chuckling when i saw the green text for Prime 4 I instantly switched over to Arlo's stream to exasperated squealing. It made me so happy for you haha
Not a Metroidvania guy, but I was happy with M&L, AA: Investigations, Zelda, & Danganronpa with tactics. Also love that the Hello Kitty Island Adventure video has nothing but South Park references in the comments, give me a warm smile for no reason.
The Prime series isn't the usual "metroidvania" formula, since it's a FPS game. I'm not the biggest fan myself but it's worth double-checking before you write it off.
i really am blown away with all the games revealed. i'm super pumped for mario & luigi and echoes of wisdom. they look like they're going to be so much fun!!
I understand TopicArlo is for more casual discussions and for making discussions, analyses & just podcast-esque videos on smaller games and it's whatever you wanna do. Your channel, your choices and all that, I get it, I think I'll understand it more if this is some method of just generating more people to that channel and getting another bigger channel up, but I strongly feel like you discussing either Zelda Echoes of Wisdom or Metroid Prime 4, either just talking about it, generally analyzing it or both, is something you'd do on the main channel and is something way more of your audience would want on this main channel. It's a little confusing to me, even when it doesn't have to make sense to me.
I think the reason a lot of TH-camrs have second channels for stuff is for if they don't want poor views on niche videos to affect them, algorithmically. With something like Prime 4, Arlo would probably do like 3-4 videos on it. And most people aren't gonna watch all of it. So it's better to just put it on the side channel.
That but like Zelda is not niche at all, even top down ones so him saying that for a Zelda game feels weird to me when a bunch of his Zelda videos do well anyways.

Prime 4 felt more like a tease to build hype. They'll pull a BoTW and have it be the last big game for Switch and the launch title for the next console. Also the world seemed to have a little Monolith in its DNA.
Metroid has historically never sold well so I highly doubt it'll be a launch title for the next one its usually Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon that are launch titles
@@brandonhowell5096It’ll launch likely with 3D Mario to make it a big 1/2 punch at launch. Prime 4 and 3D Mario will easily sell systems out of the gate.
I love that we finally have a 3D Mario model that doesn't look the exact same as the last 20+ iterations (ignoring minor updates in graphical fidelity). They also did such a beatiful job of blending the mario and luigig art style with 3D visuals imo
Just think of how far mario RPG's have bounced back. We went from creatively bankrupt paper jam/color splash/sticker star where unique characters and races weren't allowed to exist... and now we have unique characters that are based on plug outlets and audio jacks, and they feel so inspired creatively and actually work and feel right at home. Snoutlet is genius level of creativity and I'm so happy that we've made such a triumphant return to this position.
I have a feeling that the Wii U era made Nintendo play safe with a lot of their franchises that they didn’t believe would captivate the most people. They needed money, and making something that was easy and comfy and relatable to their franchise was just the thing they were thinking, for some inane reason. Now they had the Switch, with their amazing titles that conjured huge swaths of money onto their hands. They could afford more time now, to take more creative liberties. And the result is that.
I will never get the claims that the Arts and Crafts trilogy lack ANY creativity. The papercraft asthetic alone makes it stand out to me as very creative. Applying stickers to the environment to change the level and filling in holes in the workd with confetti, it's something no other Nintendo franchise can do. The visuals are beautiful, especially Origami King, the soundtracks are brilliant. I honestly don't get why everyone loves to hate on them.
@@starthing1255 Truthfully, I thought Color Splash and Origami King were fine titles. I never played them, but from what I saw from playthroughs were silly games with plenty of charm and creativity on them. But guessing from the reception of those games-and especially how I felt from playing Paper Jam-there was a painful demand for something more fresh and unique that was distinct from the Mario franchise. It's an aesthetic thing. For me, the difference between a game like Dream Team and Paper Jam was paramount. The Pi'illo Island and its unique inhabitants made the adventure feel like exploring a whole new world, because it was. It was weird and exciting, and it was motivating enough for me to get through its rough edges (*cough* dreamy zeekeeper) and see the story through. Paper Jam's cast were all recognizable within the Mario series and while fitting them into the M&L series was fun at first, the novelty wore off quick and it felt...too basic. It didn't feel more grand an adventure than a simple journey across the Mushroom Kingdom, and that's only me and my clouded expectations on what the game is. There is a difference in feel between a beachfront resort run by generic Toad NPCs and NPCs run by little shell guys. A world lived-in will almost always feel more exciting than a world tacked-on. I don't want to downplay Paper Jam or any of the modern Paper trilogy because I haven't played enough to truly experience what they have to offer, but I do want to show what kind of lost me with Paper Jam, as well as what I think the fans critical of this era felt with these titles too.

I wonder if the massive amount of new content we’ve had in the last year or so is due to game delays during covid, like we’ve had more Mario and Zelda content in the years after their respective big anniversaries than in the years themselves

References to basketball were datamined for Switch Sports during the free trial they ran before the game launched, alongside ones for dodgeball.
Switch is probably the best console for Mario RPG related games in Nintendo’s history. We have:
- 2 Mario + Rabbits
- Mario rpg remake
- new Mario & Luigi
- one new Paper Mario (Origami King) and the remake of Thousand Year Door.

But that's Arlo's whole niche. Mostly Nintendo videogame discussion. Just make the video longer or delay it a day.

The only thing missing is we still don't have the 2024 holiday title. Likely to be in a fall direct.
Mario and luigi is the big holiday title. They don't usually release big games in December. The big titles released in fall are usually in October and November.
The reason this direct was so good was because we had low expectations and couldn’t be disappointed.
Even then it still dwarves other directs.
METROID PRIIIIIIIIME IS BACK! THIS HAS BEEN THE LONGEST 7 YEARS OF MY GAMING LIFE!
I’m so happy M&L is back. It was kind of bitter sweet seeing the other amazing rpgs returning from the grave or return to greatness but still sad about M&L. It was always may favourite of the 3 and now we no longer feel left out
I was really impressed by Prime 4's visuals. There's no way it looks and runs that good on a Switch! Really hope we get 2 and 3 remastered so we can have the entire collection on one system.
If this is what we're getting end of gen, what the HECK is the Switch 2 launch lineup lmao
That’s a good question. I’m thinking that Prime 4 will be cross gen, so probably that. Other games that could be in the first year lineup are
New 3D Mario
New Mario Kart
New Kirby (either 2d/3d)
Monoliths new IP
@@PixelPikminI don't see Switch 2's first year being as good as Switch 1's. Switch 2's first year is going to be dry with smaller Switch 1 games filling the gaps in-between Switch 2 releases.
@@lol-ih1tl Ok yeah probably not like 5 big games, but I think 3D Mario and Mario Kart are a given, with a couple cross gen games like Prime 4 and Legends ZA
@@PixelPikmin 3D Mario would most likely release in late 2025 because of the 40th anniversary and the next Mario Kart can release in spring 2026.
Hopefully the Donkey Kong port is a sign that a new game is coming. I think a port makes the most sense with the Switch being at the end of its life so that’s about the best I was hoping for
I'm hopeful for a possible new one but i'm not expecting one
Of all the potential ports I was a bit disappointed that they picked that one. I played it on Wii and 3DS and the whole "blowing" mechanic still annoys me so hard.
I would have wished for a proper port of Yoshi & Poochy's Woolly World. Afterall not too many people had a Wii U and the 3DS version came out quite late. But maybe this is kept for the Switch successor
they gotta be running out of mario party names by now
Yeah like bro just use numbers
Just wait for the Switch 2 launch title Mario Party:
Super Mario Party Superstars: Super Adventure Party Jamboree Super Ball Super Rave 2: Super.
@@BaronSterling The next Mario Party will come out in 2027, meaning that it won't be a launch title.
@@haydenbush8518if they did this would be Mario Party 12. And games like superstars and star road aren't mainline mario parties so they wouldn't be a numbered entry.

Ranking all the Nintendo directs throughout the switch’s lifespan would be a fun video
Here is my opinion of the direct. WHY DID THE LEAKERS SAY THAT SUPER MARIO BROS WONDER WAS THE LAST BIG SWITCH GAME, DID THEY NOT SEE METROID PRIME 4, ECHOES OF WISDOM, AND M&L BROTHERSHIP?
Between Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and Ace Attorney Investigations 2, Capcom really slammed it out of the park with "never going to happen" re-releases that still managed to not be Mega Man Legends.
