After the fullport valve was installed, it was still dropping to 4-4.5inWC, perhaps a very small improvement, but still more than 1inWC drop from 6inWC. So hard to say if it was necessary :)
I have 12" pipe wrenches, 14, 18, 24, 36 those cobra piers bite and almost never slip. you can build steps with them and I have used my foot to put more pressure by stepping down on them.
What type of elbows do you use on the vent tubes? I am getting a low frequency shut down. I did replace the regulator going to the generator. It was fluttering at 8 psi. Still having issues.
It irritates me every time I see an oil filter mounted upside down. Don’t the people that design those those engines realize every time the engine is turned off that filter empties out and has to refill again to get the oil pressure to come back?
Quick question concerning natural gas work, does this fall under Plumbing or HVAC or both? Pretty sure we are going to install a standby generator and don't quite know who to contact for the gas line supply. Thanks, Garry
Both are licensed in NJ to run gas pipe. You should try and have one company do the whole job. This way if anything go wrong they have to fix it. My company does all electric and gas on our generator installs.
It looks like the gas valve can't be closed completely, the handle hits the sealtite conduit. I didn't think you were supposed to use galvanized pipe for gas.
That's because you're thinking every state has the same rules on gas piping. Galvanized is just fine here in Houston Texas that's what they use. Other states have different rules
I haven’t ran into that yet. What symptoms do you run into that lead you to check he inside of the pipe? I will look into those fuel lines on problem jobs
@@thehvachacker either it pukes out under load, or if it's real bad the engine runs at a low rpm. It's not in any diagnostic manual. Spent over an hour figuring out the first one. Now if we see one of those old braided hoses it gets replaced.
I’m in a very similar spot with my portable generator. My plumber put a quick connect on a 3/4” T right off my meter. At the time I didn’t realize it but he used a reduced port valve. I’m concerned about not having enough fuel if I ever upgrade to a bigger generator. How much is that type of ball valve restricting the gas vs a full port valve?
Funny you talk about Pro Dope. .... Better stuff and i have notice on certain situations in plumbing when heating a copper fitting to soldier it, other pipe dopes tend drip away or have issues with heat. Not Pro Dope. Good stuff....
It is also one of the easiest to clean up. Unlike Rectomseal no 5 the yellow stuff which seals everything up just don't drip any or get it on your hands, or this white teflon dope I used here which turns everything white. Prodope cleans up easy it wipes away. I was just at Johnstone the other day and seems like they are pushing the blue monster pipe dope. I should check it out yet Pro Dope works and if I am using anything else I just wish I had Pro Dope. The sad part is it is one of the cheaper ones so I feel burnt buying more expensive messy dopes. They all seal but are they worth the added cost.
thank for you reply on gav pipping my inspector makes us paint it or he will not sign off on anything new work or air test leaks eddi leak master plumbing in ct
This generator has a gas test port on the valve. The drip legs rarely get crap in them. Yet if the gas valve didn’t have a test port then I could convert the drip leg into a test port when needed
Definitely NOT a lubricant, guy doesn't know what he was talking about. Lol Yes it acts as a lubricant in helping not to cross thread but it's a sealant first and foremost just like Teflon. Great work man.
I am doing what I can. I almost never pushed this video it sat for 22 days uploaded. This is similar to another generator repair vid, where you put a very informative link about gas valves. Yet many generators are installed incorrectly
Lol.....restrictive gas valve.....it’s a shut off valve. Changing out is not the problem, I’m sure it ran for years just fine, till the poly tubing got plugged. Normal maintenance.
Actually, it creates a drop in volume/ pressure on start. I had one generator that would lock on on overcrank because they had 2 of these style valves on the fuel line. Yes spider web in regulator vent tubing is what caused the service call back in October,
I use to use channel locks pump pliers yet they would slip often and more often than not I was using my Ridgid pipe wrenches. That's why I don't use pipe wrenches that often anymore. Which has many telling me I need to use pipe wrenches in many comments. Once the knipex pump pliers bit they usually never slip. Yet we all use what we feel comfortable with to get a job done.
I’m with you on that yet I have sealed water with never seiz on a friends boiler to see what happens. Yet the teeth on the gas pipe is tapered and suppose to lock against each other. Yet I use dope cause I believe it makes the seal.
Your comment was 4 years ago but I'm still here today to tell you you were wrong. If the home already has a 7 water column regulator before the meter you don't need another one.
After the fullport valve was installed, it was still dropping to 4-4.5inWC, perhaps a very small improvement, but still more than 1inWC drop from 6inWC. So hard to say if it was necessary :)
Gas piping is a big issue with generator installs that is often overlooked. Please get a pair 12" pipe wrenches.

Nice fix. You take good care of your clients.
Thanks I try to treat all machines I’m working on as if I own them. Also want to minimize future break downs
I'm not a plumber, but I was told that white dope is for water only and the yellow is for LP and NG.
Nice little maintenance job Hackster ...
Thanks Eddie I do like maintenance work. Keeps me busy and I can play around and learn more about what I am working on.

I love how u work... 🙌
So from your comment, I should have listed this when I first uploaded 22 days ago. Thanks, Julio! I just try to do what's best for my customers
Great job Bill, I liked how you wire brushed the threads and cleaned off the pipe dope. Just like I would do on my own equipment.
I try to treat most equipment I am working on as if I owned it. Not many would do the same, yet I am not alone in taking pride in my work.
If you has spiders in the vent tubes you may want to remove the brass barbed fitting and check it's clear and the oriface it screws into.
It irritates me every time I see an oil filter mounted upside down. Don’t the people that design those those engines realize every time the engine is turned off that filter empties out and has to refill again to get the oil pressure to come back?

Those braided fuel hoses are notorious for the plastic liner to delaminate and cause running issues.

how do you bleed air out of gas line on initial start up on a generac 18 kw.

What camera do you use? Your videos are amazing
I use a go pro
Where brand and model is your manometer? Like the kit. Makes it easy to work with.
It's a Dwyer magnahelic gage 0-15"w.c.
thank for you reply on gav pipping my inspector makes us paint it or he will not sign off on anything new work or air test leaks eddi leak master plumbing in ct
We always have to paint for air test on new gas pipe but always use steel black pipe
Isn’t the gas caulk post be before drip leg might be easier for you if it was lol
This generator has a gas test port on the valve. The drip legs rarely get crap in them. Yet if the gas valve didn’t have a test port then I could convert the drip leg into a test port when needed
Hey dude i need toninstal one i have it but need a diagram .. witch zice are your pipe gas ? 3/4 or 1/2
How much water column needed to run generator 10-12kv , I was told 3.5 min...is that true
It is yet if your operating at minimum pressure don't start using your heat or anything else that uses gas or you will have issues
6 to 9 225 btu
To reference A.V.E. the bigger the gob the better the job
I end up globbing it on good and thick.
Would have been nice if you actually showed the difference between the valves! Wasn't that the whole point of this?
yellow only I use block blue paste lube only but oil tank thread lock for oil lines is a sealer eddie leak master
I use the yellow tape sometimes for gas I usually only use prodope. On water I like to use white Teflon and prodope. Never get any leaks.
Definitely NOT a lubricant, guy doesn't know what he was talking about. Lol Yes it acts as a lubricant in helping not to cross thread but it's a sealant first and foremost just like Teflon. Great work man.
Nice video 👍 Man
Thanks Jeff
One more thing if you deal with propane at all be sure your dope is compatible with L.P., alot are not.
I don't deal with propane often, yet this is good to know it may not be compatible and should look into it

I know everyone on TH-cam praises knipex pliars but honestly i'm a channel lock brand kinda person, I don't get the hype

reelTuff best pipe dope!!!!
It’s the same
The pipe dope is a sealant.
It seals and lubricants the threads to help create the seal
U can't just use oil
I’m with you on that yet I have sealed water with never seiz on a friends boiler to see what happens. Yet the teeth on the gas pipe is tapered and suppose to lock against each other. Yet I use dope cause I believe it makes the seal.
u need a regulator
