A subject not covered when discussing EVs is their insurance cost. Apart the longevity of EV battery life, insurance is another concern for me. I've read stories of EVs being written off by insurance companies in what seems like minor accidents due to damage to their battery systems. The same level of accident on an ICE vehicle would have been easily repairable.
We have covered this before when we did our mega EV running costs episode - keep in mind this was a few months ago so prices are subject to have changed since then. th-cam.com/video/UyswnzrovxU/w-d-xo.html
Insurance is VERY user specific, and varies significantly. For me to insure my MY isn't that much more than my previous hybrid RAV4 as an example, but for someone else out there it's triple the price. Also the money you save on fuel and servicing more than makes up for the extra insurance costs, but again this can vary depending on your usage. And the insurance write off's are not no much to do with the batteries, it's more to do with parts availability and timeframes for repairs. EV batteries now should (and mostly will) outlast the car itself, so this isn't an issue anymore.
Yeah interesting that and the top sellers are $60k plus … a lot of people must be lying on their finance application … or something else is happening and we’re being lied to …
Yeah I don't get it either. I see thousands of cars come in and parked at the berth and they are pretty much all sold. Then more car ships come and go. Unbelievable
5 speed auto only came in 6 cylinder Falcons. (only in FG IIRC) Trans code "F" which is the first letter in the description of the condition that particular transmission is usually in. BA on V8 autos were either 4 or 6 speed only.
SAIC acquired the Rover assets, not the Rover name, which is part of Jaguar Land Rover (under the argument a Rover SUV by someone else would be confusing).
@ CX-30, CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, CX-90, BT-50 same age as D-MAX 2020/2021, Apart from that yes I guess the 2,3,6 are old. Just curious are you not aware of the shift to compete with luxury brands?
@@CarExpertAus Many car buyers like older model cars. Mazda sales numbers are being kept afloat by theCX-5 (level on last year), CX-3 (up 16%) and Mazda 3 (up 14%). The newer models (CX-60/70/80/90) are selling in much smaller numbers than the CX-8/9 that they replaced.
The Ranger is selling so well because it's nicer to drive than the competition and V6 engine etc, great looking ute BUT I only hope it holds together like a Hilux can? Wouldn't wan't to own one out of warranty due to the various issues it's famous for. Poor Izuzu numbers because they appeal for their robustness and longevity but not on bell's and whistles. If your going to keep your ute, suv out of warranty and have it for years stay Japanese is my advice unless the Kia Tazman proves otherwise?
I bought ranger xlt bi turbo recently and will be selling it once it hits 6 months. Gonna downgrade for a triton glx as it is much cheaper and the 10 year warranty just gives that piece of mind. Gonna lose 20 percent on depreciation unfortunately but better than to be left with a repair bills when the car is out of warranty. Car drives great but honestly just not worth the 64k I paid
Your name is James WONG, while not a traditional Chinese name it is still Chinese in origin. Yes that is how they answer the phone often with Wei or Wey. Probably should learn some of the language now we have so many Chinese vehicles. ........Although my parentage is from Wales and Scotland and I don't speak Gaelic either.
Great to listen to you guys.. People are buying on price and not what they would like to buy. The car companies are out pricing what people can afford. Government throwing tax payers money to EVs so people are buying EVs😡
To try and get to some emissions target, you will have to "throw" money at EVs. Every country has it. Not every one will buy on price alone, unless a car is just a box on wheels to that person.
Australia's EV charging infrastructure is pretty pathetic and doesn't look like getting better anytime soon which is why hybrids are taking off. I reckon that plug in hybrids are really going to go gang busters in the next few years. Low running costs and no range anxiety.
I really enjoy your car tests. But you fail every time by not testing all cars on unsealed roads. Many of us live in the country where we travel on unsealed roads. Due to this, we are plagued by rattles and dust entering the vehicles we buy. How about spending a minute testing all the cars, Utes, EV's and others on unsealed roads. Write about how well they handle and how comfortable they are. Not all of us use our 4X4's for fun weekends. We use them to get hay out to our stock in wet paddocks. We use them as daily drivers on unsealed roads. The last test I watched the reviewer who said "And no rattles, which is good" and he was on a bitumen road! Take it on an unsealed country road for the rattle test. That will sort the men from the boys and be really interesting for those who drive on unsealed roads as part of how they live.
So glad I don't own a 40 grand Corolla Hybrid which is so low to ground there are only 1 percent without spoiler damage. Also glad I don't own a Thai or Chinese made car which 50 % of Aussies have bought as the fastest depreciating asset. Just so happy I bought a Subaru Outback XT ( made in Japan, 9 inch ride height, 0-100 in 7.3secs. ( 9.5L/100km) and 2024 Model all sorted CVT perfect for Turbo. Yearly service cost me $370 /Touring Model with ventilated seats and leg extenders can drive for hours in comfort. Full time. AWD safety. They sell 100, 000 in US alone for good reason.
This is so out of context from your car reviews. You should provide at least a minimal introduction intro into what it is you are spending the next 45 minutes talking about. Straight into delivery numbers, but what even is VFACTS, why does it matter, etc
Do you actually own an EV to make those statements or just regurgitating old news? I own a M3 Tesla and the insurance is a little higher but no fuel costs so that negates that. I charge from home at the cheapest times so costs me $5 to fully charge for the week. Do the research!
This EV Hybrid love in is out of control. I have never seen anyone who owns one factor in the extra purchase cost. A Honda ZRV RS is $6 grand dearer than its ICE counterpart. At $2 a litre and an improved consumption of 3lts per 100 k, it would take around 100,000 kms to just break even. Personally I can’t see what all the fuss is about. Yes performance and fun are a different matter. But to say you’re saving money on fuel is a furphy
When are you guys doing a BYD Shark 6 Review!?
Good work, Jack! Love the hybrid energy haha
I'd be surprised if Prado makes top 5 or 6 given the price increase
I'll be surprised if you are not surprised.
And the old drivetrain.

🇦🇺 Amazing that vehicle sales are booming given the outcry over the "cost of living" crisis...??
People arent the brightest. Most of the new cars are financed.

@vladthe3rd414 there are alot of people in Australia that aren't struggling
If you let 600,000 people migrate to Australia every year then there is the demand

I will be surprised if Tasman is a success given how ugly they are.

I like it . Stands out compared to the others

can you put the stats on the screen when u talk about em
We will work on this for next month. Tough to do with the short turnaround from filming to publish, but we will see what we can do.
Really curious to understand why you think Mazda has an aged line up? I would have thought it’s the shift to far more expensive products…
Most of the Mazda range has been around in its current form for the better part of a decade now, with only CX-60 and 90 being recent additions.
