I'm pretty sure I took the tour when I went on a class trip my junior year of high school. Unfortunately, I didn't have as deep an appreciation for Church history and St Peter at the time. Would love to go back now to venerate. No sunshine underground, but Scripture itself tells us Peter's shadow healed. Doesn't sound like they were guarding the bone very well though to leave you alone with it.

“…so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on cots and mats, in order that Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he came by.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭5:15‬ ‭
Not sure how the lighting was down there Dan, but hopefully you were able to catch some of Peter’s shadow before you left 😋. Seriously, you guys are awesome and I’m grateful for every video you post on here!

Enjoyed the intelligent conversation so much, however, I felt there was too much "silly" laughter, by the fellow in the gray t-shirt. I, too, was blessed to have toured the Scavi - - it is so incrediblely spiritual. In my humble opinion, It needs to be talked about in a more serious tone. God bless.

I rejoice with you for your experience. Sometimes, joy takes the form of laughter.

I went to an all-boys Catholic high school in the 90s and wasn't taught half the historical stuff you guys cover. Is it any wonder that Catholicism has become so stale? Your channel should be part of the curriculum for high school freshman. No joke.

Wow. Though I am familiar with the stories related to the Scavi necropolis etc. listening to Dan's recounting his experience struck me with deep interior joy to me. I felt I was there vicariously through his story. Wonderful experience for me too. Of course, in the full story about the 'discovery' of the bones, it would have been interesting to recount how these were nearly lost too, if not for a strange twist of circumstances which led to its 're-discovery'. It's indeed amazing, that the whole Christological basis of our faith was pronounced by the person who jaw bone was there, among other fragments of his remains. 'Peter was here' grounds the fact of the Incarnation, after Elizabeth's and Simeon's and the many others who say, Christ is Lord. 🕊

I did not get to enter the scavi, but just praying above the tombs (at the ground level of the basilica) of st Peter and of st Paul in their respective basilicas also proved a very moving experience to me. I was granted the grace of experiencing how one's body are still sanctified and united to the defunct person. In the case of two such saints, I felt a tremendous spiritual joy out of the confidence that they indeed stay with me and assist me at all times.
