Hey, I'm kinda on a gap-year now and I'm 26 - don't think it's something you can only do when you're 18! I'm travelling through France and the Middle east going to language school. It's an amazing way to travel and you stay in one place for as long as you like. Why not go to Sweden - learn Swedish for two months and make Swedish friends - vlog about it!
I was forced to take a gap year because I dropped out of my university course after only a couple of weeks when I realized that I had chosen the completely wrong subject. I wasn't able to find a job though since I live in a pretty rural area and didn't have a car and my social life started deteriorating which eventually led to me being depressed. Without a job I didn't have money to travel anywhere so I was stuck at home bored out of my mind most of the time. So my advice for anyone thinking about taking a gap year is: Do it but only if you're sure what you want to do with it and how you're going to do it!
Lucy, I find it almost impossible to put how much your channel means to me into words. I'm a 14 year old girl with anxiety issues, when I first started watching your videos, it was to distract myself from all the shit going on in my life, I now watch them because of how much I can relate to you and the things you say. You are literally like the older, more sophisticated version of myself and I'm so grateful that you have taken time out of your life to create these videos. ❤️
i never quite understand how people even have the opportunity and money to travel in their gap year . from what i'm used to gap years are for working and saving money as much as you can. no hate at all it's just interesting seeing lucys standpoint xxx
I completely agree, I thought you'd have to be quite well off to begin with in order to do those things. But it is something a lot of people, including myself, would love to do. It's probably only feasible for certain people at certain times.
Mae Day hey!! I come from a worling class family, definitely don't come from money and it's 100% possible!! Realistically gap years are more like 14 months, so you can work for most of that, accumulate loadsa moola and still travel for a couple of months!! There are also loads of schemes and ways of travelling WHILE earning money!! For me, I just faced the fact that a years work probably wouldn't even put a dent in my uni debt haha! So why not put it towards some funky life experiences!!
Sharing so much private experiences and feelings like you did on youtube is probably pretty scary, because it makes you vulnerable and people are most likely going to judge you. But it also is extremely brave and cool of you to do so. To share the mistakes you have made can help thousands of people not to make those mistakes. I personally think it is very refreshing to find someone who is just transparent with their feelings and thoughts. I always enjoy your ,,sitting at the edge of your bed, sipping tea and talking about stuff that matters to you'' videos a lot.
Re: the sponsored content chat - I think the Michalaks do spon videos so well! They still feel like their videos and their style and the way they collaborate with brands is so creative. (Also I really enjoy your videos!!)

I'm with you on the gap year thing! I went straight from high school to university when I was 17, did a 3-year degree and now I'm in my first year of a 2-year Master's degree! I've never been out of New Zealand and barely even travelled around the country. I might take a year off when I hand in my thesis to work, travel and then start a PhD when I've had a bit more life experience.
For the gap year question: it is never too late and you'll never get it out of your system -- at the age of 25 with three gap years behind me and, still, I have a million places I wanna go. Even being in different places of europe will teach you a lot about other cultures and people -- how we are different and how we are alike. Go explore when you have the desire and the opportunity. xx
If you like having a base I recommend going one place and doing day trips to certain places. I'm just back from doing a tour of Italy using Milan, Verona, and Venice as bases 💓💓

I'm really excited right now to hear you talking about your experience with coming of the pill. I had the same troubles, starting a couple of years ago, to the point where I had suicidal thoughts, was diagonosed for depression but still didn't feel this all the time (bipolar disorder ist also something I thought about a lot). That's when I realised that it was all in relation to my mestrual cycle and started taking the pill (even though I have no other reason to take it atm), and it's helped me so much. I hear from so many people that they have mental issues while on the pill and I always find that interesting, because I take it to not have mental issues. So it was relieving to finally hear someone has been through a similar experience, although I obviously feel for you!
On sponsored content you often hear youtubers saying that they're 100% sincere and they love the brands they're promoting, but for me, and I imagine others, the real issued with sponsored content isn't that, it's that I don't want to watch youtube videos and be sold to all the time. I would never chose to watch adverts out of my own will, and I don't wish to watch them on youtube. On the other hand then I do understand that youtubers want to make money etc and I understand that but I don't know. I don't want to buy these things.

Its totally fine to still be learning about YT as a job. Its such a new, uncharted industry, even the "well-knowns" are still figuring this out. Its strange and bizarre but just experiment and practice until youre comfortable with what youve found.
When I was 21 I did study abroad in Austria and was able to travel on the weekends. Not going to lie, having a dorm room as a home base was essential for me. I had a home base, and I got to travel a lot. It was the best of both words and even still, I missed home.

I study in the Netherlands, which isn't a different continent BUT should you feel like traveling to see some places I'd love to show you around here! I find seeing the version of a place that is not the tourist version, which is kind of so much the same really everywhere, but the version of someone living there (possibly including some sight seeing) is so much more interesting, eye opening, plain amazing, addictive. It may also be a way you would enjoy exploring the world more, as it's not leaving your home but rather entering someone else's home, a temporary home away from home, which is so beautiful :)

I'm 80% sure now that I wouldn't have gone on to do the wrong course and drop out after 2 years (and many failed subjects).

Maybe you could go on a cruise however the stops are quite limited and would depend on where you wanted to travel too, with a cruise that is your base and you cover a lot of country's in a shorter amount of time x
When I broke up with my first boyfriend, I was distraught for a few months and then I began to live my life again. However, I would always fantasise what it would be like if we were still together. It wasn't until a couple of days ago when my sister told me to clear through some of the crap I hoarded before we broke up, and only until I decided to bin it all did I manage to get over it.
I think there's this mental block that doing youtube music is negative somehow. You don't need to worry. People will support you. It won't matter if you are perceived as "youtube musician"

Would be very interested in the different opinions on taking the pill since I'm very torn about it and since there are so many Stigmas surrounding the subject. I could totally picture you playing in a cool intimate place and I think you would really fill it with your warmth, sweetness, beauty and talent. Also, I think you will be glad you have studied before travelling. I bet some of your well-travelled classmates regret not having known what they do now when they visited those places ( I also think you have travelled quite a bit anyway). One more thing! Idk if it's just me but I've noticed that the sound in your videos is kinda low, on my phone I have to put on the headphones to be able to listen, idk if it's just me...

Maybe you could go on a cruise however the stops are quite limited and would depend on where you wanted to travel too, with a cruise that is your base and you cover a lot of country's in a shorter amount of time x

When I broke up with my first boyfriend, I was distraught for a few months and then I began to live my life again. However, I would always fantasise what it would be like if we were still together.
