Incredible Tim Mead in his first and last aria. It is a pleasure to see how this music and its existence on stage has become a must of the international Opera circuit. It was a music so badly interpreted until the huge work of the baroque "messias" (Deller, Christie, Malgoire, Pinnock, Gardiner, Jacobs) who gave it a new life in the 70's and 80's. Now, it sounds marvellously reinvented, with dynamics and intense fluxus. In this XXI century, the successors of the pionners is great: Haim is one of them. Alarcón, and so on... Thank you for their job.

La vi en el Municipal de Santiago de Chile en 2019 con la misma escenografía y vestuario, son óperas que uno sabe que se representan poco y que uno las podrá ver en vivo sólo una vez en la vida. Quelle production magnifique. Vu à Caen cette année là. Tim Mead d'une musicalité extraordinaire. Jakub Orlinski à voir en vrai, la scène est son élément. Janine De Bique, quelle découverte ! Quelle voix extraordinaire, pure et chaleureuse à la fois. Comme toujours Emmanuelle Haïm et le Concert d'Astrée servent des spectacles qui ravissent et laissent des traces durables en chacun. Merci ! Bon sang que le public sur cette captation est horrible. Applaudissez ou retenez vous mais ne servez pas cet entre-deux malaisant.
And where, might I enquire is the lovely Trio for Eduige, Bertarido & Unolfo which Handel wove around a beautiful Flute Obligatto ? Who had the gall to excise such a Beautiful Canzonetta from Handel's Opera ? I endured the Puppetry for the sake of ALL the Beautiful Arias in Rodelinda, especially those written for Unolfo. The Singing of J.J. Orlinsky & the stunning Playing of the Orchestra with Perfect Tempi throughout under the deft Baton of Emmanuelle Haim are easily among the Best I have ever heard, thrilling, electrifying & delightful. The De Capos are Superlative. Or Gobsmacking to use the Vernacular. In fact All the Singers were Excellent and the clever Choreography added greatly the overall Production, Breakdancing included ! Hats off to everybody for what really is a Beautiful Production. Puppets are just not my thing, sorry ! 🤗💐👋
"Ombre piante" could hardly have been better--at least Ive never heard it done so well. Brava De Bique, you met the composer at his level of inspiration.
Thank you for posting this absolutely brilliant performance. The production was highly entertaining. The orchestra and its leading were superb. All the performers were magnificent. An extra highlight was Unolfo sung and danced by Jakub Jozef Orlinski at an early stage of his stellar career.
Beautiful production and glorious singing. I like the simple but traditional set. Makes far more sense than some silly director's crazy modern fantasy.

I saw Emmanuelle Haïm conduct the rival of this very opera at Glyndebourne nearly twenty years ago now. I’m so glad she’s come back to it. She was absolutely phenomenal! The Villegier production was fantastic and I’m so glad and lucky to have seen it on the multiple times it was performed both on tour and at the house. Best of Glyndebourne in my opinion.
J'ai vu les 2 mises en scène, française et allemande. C'est une histoire familiale terrible et violente, dans laquelle un enfant fait des cauchemars monstrueux, car son enfance a été volée... Les artistes sont fantastiques : tyrannie, pouvoir, espoir et amour sont merveilleusement rendus. L'interprétation française (Lille) est moins violente que l'allemande (Frankfurt), beaucoup plus dure, mais très bonne aussi... question de culture !

Puppets ?!!! The Cast have enough to be doing Singing AND Acting without having this "Artistic" Claptrap thrown at them during their Performances. Not to mention the unfortunate Captive Audience having to watch it. Soo annoying & distracting. Enough Already ! Too many Handel Productions are being marred & ruined by this Nonsense and Gimmickry. Are we all Children to be entertained by a Seaside Punch & Judy Show to get us through the awful "ordeal" of a Handel Opera ?!

Really good cast. I have paid out to have 'Premium' TH-cam, opera must be very hard to stay with if interrupted by adverts. I found the staging problematic. The puppets conceit was run through the performance way too insistently. It is in its nature diminishing. Its final manifestation in the last scene was a step too far for me, making an absurd diminishment of Andrea Mastroni's splendid villain.
However in the great duet (Io t'abraccio) the performers have gone off the rails somewhat--it''s contrived & slightly disjointed. Where's the lilt, the heart-rending intensity?
