Unique countertenor voice. Masculinity of his voice colour is so different from what countertenors have presented so far. Little to no vibrato seems to sound very stylistic in Baroque music. His improvising and ornamentation are fantastically crafted and connected with the context of the performed pieces. Being a fan of Andreas Scholl, I am equally a fan of Jakub Jozef Orlinski. Different approaches but both very convincing and beautiful. Different voices but both very impressive.
I think I’ve read somewhere that Jakub wrote his thesis for his degree on ornamentation. He values the freedom of putting his own stamp on baroque arias, making them unique to him. He is the most amazingly talented artist. I also like Andreas Scholl very much. I prefer counter tenors who don’t sound like sopranos, with Jakub there is no doubt, he is a true male alto.
He's not a real countertenor, like nearly all of them. They are falsettists. Not singing full voice. Thank goodness it's not all fake "period" instruments or playing.
The ensemble is quite wonderful. Countertenors can sometimes become weedy and thready, but Jakub's voice is strong versatile and confident. He's also a break dancer? Awesome!
