Systembolaget is not alone. In Norway you have Vinmonopolet, in Finland Alko. And someone told me that in USA every state has its own rule, some states are completely "dry", some has liquer stores in every corner, and some has an equilavent to Systembolaget. I got this information about USA at least 25 years ago, maybe things have changed there.
Yes and no to it being a queue system for housing. In theory one doesn't have to be registered in a queue to apply for a rental. But basicly every sort of rental housing company have their own sort of queue and/or point system that can up your cred as a tenant by either the amount of time you've been registered in this queue and/or if you already live in one of their properties. In essense making it close to impossible to gain a new living arrangement if you're not registered in these queues and/or already living within that company umbrella as they will favour ppl that are. THEN Stockholm being the most sought after area to live in means there's insane demand but not nearly enough supply to satiate that demand, so when something is available at the market the top contenders to actually have a shot at renting the place are ppl that has been in the company queue for literal decades.
Coming from the US I feel this is very cultural. In the US it's almost the opposite. I am from a generation that came from Germany and Sweden. I was instilled with some of the things said to this. I think that is what makes America great. We are a melting pot of ideas, dreams, philosophy's. I believe this is what drives us. I am living in a moment of American history. I have seen some of the world. Its so beautiful. I do not know why we wage wars. Together we can achieve so much. I feel this is the American dream now. Together as a world united we can achieve extraordinary things.
Canadians talk to strangers all the time. First thing said on the elevator is usually a comment about the weather. Anything after that is situational, followed with further chat, smiles, and good byes when departing. Chatty Canadians in Sweden are probably annoying even if we try to be nice.

The difference is that in both Norway and Finland you can buy it from the grocery stores, while in Sweden you have to go to systembolaget.
@@Northernliiights In Norway Vinmonopolet has an absolute monopoly for all sorts of alcohol stronger than 4.75 %, in Finland 8 %.
@@ingemarsjoo4542 Yes, thats a big difference to the 3.5 in swedish grocery stores, 4.75% is enough for most people.
I love Systembolaget. I can get any alcoholic beverage from anywhere in the world, through them. :D

How much of an alcoholic do you have to be that you have to have access to alcohol 24/7 and you can't buy it in advance???
