do hippos actually switch their gender or is it just a narrative device?
Just a narrative device
I was about to google that.
@@Jamestolandis the next 1 bout crocs?
Just like all the other mammals that,.....change sex.
Uh huh.
@plendido9536 Hey, Clownfish do it xD
(i know they're not mammals, but still)
That Hippo is practically a Dark Souls protagonist to other male hippos and a boss character to others, especially Crocodiles.
“For one of you ‘probably them’ won’t end well “ combined with zooming in on the croc killed me. Thanks for another awesome video
Glad you enjoyed!
Imagine being a crocodile and when you finally find easy prey (wildebeest herd crossing) a giant hippo decides to stop you for absolutely no reason.
And then eats the wildebeest you just got
@@TrainLizard they r herbivore
@@SK-ij6ngnot fully
@@SK-ij6ng yeah, herbivores CAN eat meat if they want to in small quantities, and hippos are especially known to do this because they wake up every day and choose violence
@@brokenray6525 i only see them chewing living stuffs, they dont actually eat it do they?
As a Zimbabwean whose grown up being told many such folk-tales, I can confirm that on 80% of cases, it's always the hare that's going around starting drama.
Also the case in asian and european myths... I don't know what rabbits and hares did to our ancestors but they're not letting it slide.
>> Hares have spread throughout most grassland areas, competing with stock for food and damaging crops, orchards and plantations. Even low numbers of hares can cause severe damage to shelter belts, young trees, cuttings, vegetables or plant nurseries. (www.hbrc.govt.nz/assets/Document-Library/Information-Sheets/Animal-Pests/Hares.pdf)
@@kitkatboardI raised rabbits my whole life and I can confirm they are sneaky buggers hehe
Can you tell me what the folktales talk about? Hipo supposed to have hair and tge hare burns them?
@@samuelphanoto4565 yrsy
Poor crocodiles living next to those monsters :(
Crocodiles: man those giant dinosaurs were annoying to deal with it. Hopeful the mammals aren't that bad.
Hippos: OH, HELLO THERE!!!
Don't forget about the man walking barefoot in the middle of the night in the swamps of Florida, messing with alligators/crocs (Fishingarrett)@@starmaker75
@@starmaker75 Madusup law: "Given enougth time, crocodiles have a evolutionary tendency to aways evolve into the biggest creature in their current enviromment "
Hippos are the wrong side of town
Well to be fair they did choose to live there
So basically your life as a hippo is 45% eating, 10% sticking to your mother, 45% trying to mate and 690% bullying crocodiles.
Noice
As well as an extra 1000% grieving all other animals in a 100 light-year radius.
and throwing shit everywhere
@@grandgojira5485unless it is an elephant, it is the one grieving you.
7:51 what subtle foreshadowing
I can't get enough of this series. Truly amazing content and I love how cute the animals are every video
It's great to get a human perspective of an actual hippo. I remember my time as a hippo, but then I stopped binge-watching salad-eating competitions.
Everything’s its fun and happiness of bullying crocs until Gustave steps in
Guatov enters chat
hippo leaves chat
Bro Gustave does NOT have a winning matchup against most adult hippos, especially on land. In water, the average hippo is still just too much.
@@Brandon-br7tc he's still killed adult 2 hippos so hippos avoided him
@@unifiedhorizons2663 he’s never reportedly killed 2 adult hippos
@@Brandon-br7tche still hunted hippos, whether they were adults or subadults doesnt matter that much. Gustav is still a water dragon.
The dry humor is incredible
It’s always dry season on this channel
Nice hint at a potential future video.
I will drink you
I find hypos just running underwater so insanely terrifying
I love these videos so much! They’re like an antithesis to BBC Planet Earth. Don’t get me wrong, Planet Earth is great but it’s fun to see a nature vid stripped of majesty and romanticism.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them!
Crocodile " er miss, your kid is chewing my tail"
The mum" its fine, you touch them though and I will mess you up so badly that not even a human will be able to make a leather wallet let alone a hand bag"
Crocodile 😨
Thank you. As a new hippo myself I needed this tutorial
Glad I could help!
Just remember while you are one of the strongest animals in Africa you are not the strongest. Elephants won't hesitate to put you in your place
@@kristianschuff1723 Lucky for elephants they're cool dudes. No reason for me to mess with em.

I love that the crocodile video is so connected to this one
It's the Life As An Animal cinematic universe! 😅
Thanks for the tutorial! This will definitely help my 100% genocide hippo speedrun
5:50 “I THINK MOTO MOTO LIKES YOU” 🗿
0:24 "Lol" said the Rabbit. "Lmao"
Wow. Just found a new favorite channel. Please expand and teach us more. Please don't sell out. You're format is like life blood.
Hippo : "That old bull of a hippo would give me trouble"
Crocodile : "But would you lose"
Hippo : "Nah I'd win"
HIP/PO 🥲🤚
I know that the hippo kills crocodiles in this video, but I still want to see a scene showing how hippos are facultative herbivores like deers. (Very controversial topic)
Hippos are only facultative omnivores.
They primarily eat plants and have to to eat plants for the bulk of their diet and can only eat small quantities of meat or they get sick because their digestive system isn’t built for large meat quantities.
@@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 you know there are reports of hippos actively blocking river ways to kill wildebeest right? Plus, what’s the point of their jagged teeth except racking up a kill count?
@Skyler517
Yes, that's why I say facultative omnivores, they certainly eat meat but they are limited in how much they can ingest. There's also a good amount of sightings where hippos kill but don't eat what they kill. They still have a leg up on animals like those said wildebeest though because they are actually adapted to kill.
They ain't omnivores in the way humans are where we can eat large quantities of meat without getting sick. Their stomach pH for example is higher (less acidic) than pigs for example.
Low stomach pH is important as while meat is super easy to digest and can be digested by even some of the most obligate herbivores, the problem is that it often carries with it some amount of pathogens that need be destroyed by a sufficiently powerful digestive system.
@@MemezndreamzThe tusks are for battles against other males and fighting predators, and hippos are highly territorial, they tend to kill anything that gets to close to their waterways
@@alejandroelluxray5298 whatever the case is. I want hippos to be shown eating meat. Facultative is a very weird balance between herbivores and omnivores.
4:54 I love how the bird gets angry eyebrows too. XD
Love that you put the Kinder Happy Hippos in there ❤
Oh, that's what they were! Thank you for clearing that up for me!
Thanks, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support!!
Great video keep up the work@@Jamestoland
Warming up for a territorial battle by murking a few crocs is such a Hippo thing to do.
Idk why when the rabbit lit the hippo’s hair on fire I was expecting him to do the Spy vs. Spy giggle and peace sign 😂
2:15 im so high i paused it to scientifically surmise which holes were eyes and which were nostrils
6:38 so that’s what happened to the crocodile in the other video
Yeh
…Except that croc was born later in this vid…
YOU’VE CREATED A TIME PARADOX
these are great. i love how you use the simplistic drawings cutouts that are real animals and cutouts that are jokes, like the horse.
Thank you!
4:29 Interesting that you mention "River-horse". I saw someone from China that once complained that hippos were called "river horse" in Chinese, but I had compassion, because here in Norway they are also litterally named "River horse".

I literally just watched how to crocodile and I love how the storyline is intwined together
I just did the same 😅
Yeah, me too. I bursted into laughter when I realized 😂

Not quite
Drake doesnt eat children he just ##### #### ### ###
"One gigantic behemoth mega river horse" I laughed so hard at that for some reason 😂😂
WOOO ITS SUCH A GOOD DAY WITH A NEW UPLOAD OF THESE
"This is the start of a long, ongoing... 'coexistence'."
I would call it aggressive tolerance.
While Germans understand Hippo(potamus), we also have our own word for it. It is exactly like used in the video:
Flusspferd. Fluss Pferd. River Horse.
Might also be called Nilpferd, which translates to Nile horse. Yes, that exact river is meant.
In swedish we call them "flodhäst" which means river horse so sorta similar
7:52 your life as a crocodile
It’s honestly so cool that there’s a natural reflex to push up off the ground as there is a natural reflex to breathe.
1:31 is soooooooooo funny
Glad you actually mentioned hippos don't actually swim. It makes the videos of them chasing boats that much more insane b/c of their strength 🤯
Great video as always :D I love the idea of teasing the next video at the end.
Thank you!
This channel is amazing at having every video be able to point backwards to another amazing video
Watch every video starting from the hippo.. amazing work😮🎉 I can't wait to see more
Thank you! More to come!
absolutely love the background narratives with all the birds, the wagtail getting yeeted and the egret getting mad when all the hippos did made me laugh
7:50 “at least I gave him a fighting chance” the hippo says wile bashing in an innocent crocodile’s skull
4:30 in Arabic, hippo is literally river horse
That's also the meaning in Greek, Hippo is horse in Ancient Greek.
Also in Hindi
3:49 the bird on this stomuch Is a bird that mostly feeds on blod of other animals, making a joke of the sweat being blod.
Just found your channel today. I admire your animation, and teaching about wild life.
1:53 i just hear COME ON SLAM WELCOME TO BAND COME ON SLAM

How about “How to Whale” next? We haven’t gotten any aquatic animals yet so it would be pretty cool!
But we know so Little about them

Bro deserves way more than 40K subs. Minimum 500k. 600k even. His videos are too hilarious YET informative. Nah you know what? 700k subs. Minimum.
0:25 ok, I do hope that in that African tale the hippo at least *tried* to disembowel the rabbit
i love how perfectly this pairs with the croc video
South america hippo become invasive species bcs there's no drought to control hippo population also lack of competitors such as elephant and rhino
This video and the croc video are connected, peak cinema 🙌
2:47 The wild chocolate hippopotamus.
I must loughed so hard seeing the happy hippo casual hanging out with the real hippos xD
1:07 sides eye
I really hope 6:05 is a reference to that one game abou the two kids in a boat with guns
His use of the word copious is hilarious
That young croc broke my heart 😭
