      im also gonna do my first wild camping . but have some question . can we do wild camp in Switzerland ?if yes where can we do ? any part of swiss ?or any certain area for camping ? should we get permission ? looking for your replay. i live in Zurich . thank you so much

      @@simzrag953 Wild camping is a bit of a grey area in Switzerland. It is tolerated, provided that you follow the camping etiquette. For example, preferably camp above the tree line and away from water sources. If you are on a farm, ask the landowner's permission. When farm camping, it's also a courtesy to set up your tent as late as possible and take it down when you wake up. And as always when in nature, leave no trace. :)

    Hey! This is a beautiful video. How did you find the spots for wild camping? I am planning to go in August on my own as well and I would like to sleep in my tent in nature.

    • @InWilderPlaces
      @InWilderPlaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kathrin, that sounds incredible! When we camp, we do try to stay mostly above the treeline when possible. Switzerland has a lot of wild camping rules, e.g. no camping on nature/wildlife reserves etc, near water sources etc.
      Check out the Swiss Mobility app - you can add different layers to make sure you're setting up camp in an acceptable place. Otherwise, you can camp on land if you ask the landowners permission. It's also best to pitch your tent just before it's dark, and take it down first thing when you wake up. A single overnight stay is usually unproblematic - if it is done considerately. :) Happy camping!

    Just found your channel as I am planning to do the Via Alpina myself next year.. :). Really enjoying your adventures! Were the stamp places easy to find, did you find all of them? Do you know any other hikes like this with stamp booklets by chance? (not necessarily in Switzerland.). Thanks! Looking forward to some more adventures from you :)

    • @InWilderPlaces
      @InWilderPlaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rebeka, that's really exciting! We are also planning on tackling it again next year as the weather this year made it really challenging. There is a map of the stamp locations provided by Schweiz Mobil: bit.ly/3E0BuGJ
      I'm not sure about other hikes with stamp booklets, but MySwitzerland has a whole collection of long-distance hikes for this country. Best of luck for next year! 🍀

    Great video! do you think it's gonna be too cold to do it in September? because I'm going to Switzerland for 11days this September, my original plan was to just stay at famous paid campsites in each city and maybe take a day or two to go wild camping, but now I'm wanting to hike across the Switzerland after watching your videos. How far can I go in 11 days and do you think I can survive in September with 80L backpack? I woud really appreciate it if you could give advice. Thank you

      Happy to hear you feel inspired to hike and camp more! September is a lovely time in Switzerland as it’s no longer as hot and the summer rains have stopped.
      As for hiking across Switzerland, you don’t need a full 80L backpack. Most of the trails go from town to town, so there is always a shop to stock up on food supplies - and there is lots of water on the trail. Hope you have a wonderful hike! ☺️

    Hi! I love the video it's really so calming and inspiring😌 I'm going wild camping in Switzerland sometime in mid May of this year and I'm wondering if it will be too cold, what attire you recommend and also I noticed you mentioned about the late winter and avalanche risks and I'm curious as to where I can find information on this for the trails I'm going on!

    • @InWilderPlaces
      @InWilderPlaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jun - this sounds very exciting! The gear and avalanche risk depends on where and how high you’re planning on going. Snow is melting quite quickly now below 2000m, but above there is still snow. The avalanche risk comes in especially on slopes of 30 degrees or more. You can use the MySwitzerland app to see trails and steep slopes.
      As for gear, days are warm but nights can still drop to zero. Here is more information on gear and what to pack:
      www.inwilderplaces.com/stories/hiking-gear-multi-day-adventure-norway.
      Hope this helps - be safe and happy camping!

      I use the Margot Tunsgten Ultralight 2P tent. I really enjoy it because of the two doors and room to sit :) but the pack size it long due to the poles. I think the MSR Hubba Hubba collapses to a more convenient size, even though weight and expanded size is the same.

    • @InWilderPlaces
      @InWilderPlaces  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you ☺️ We camped in Central Switzerland.
      Since wild camping is still a grey area in Switzerland, we don’t disclose specific camp sites. It takes research to find a good camp spot, and often we need to ask landowners or farmers. We don’t publish these spots online because we don’t want these places to be closed off due to too many campers or people not respecting the rules.

    Any drinking water sources while camping/trekking?

    • @InWilderPlaces
      @InWilderPlaces  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, many! We are very fortunate in Switzerland to have great water quality. There are many fountains or water troughs along hiking routes, as well as restaurants and huts to refill water bottles or bladders. Don’t drink straight from the rivers though, as there could be cows grazing high up in the mountains so the water can have bacteria. I hike with a Be Free water bottle that has a filter just in case as well. Hope this was helpful ☺️

    • @InWilderPlaces
      @InWilderPlaces  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@malibubiatch There are many places an hour from Zurich where you can begin your hiking. Check out the Swiss Mobility app - it has all the marked routes in Switzerland. You can see the length, difficulty etc. You will be able to find something at your pace. It also allows you to add different layers to make sure you're not setting up camp on a national park or wildlife reserves (not allowed). What I like to do is find a place/mountain that I am excited to explore and plan my adventure around that.
