In Wilder Places is for outdoor enthusiasts to get inspiration to enjoy more time in nature.
Wild is a state of mind. Or rather a journey, a venture to find something sleeping deep within us. Tag along as we venture to find the wilder side of life.
My name is Soninke Combrinck, and I created In Wilder Places to share my stories of adventure as I explore the world around me. I am a writer and an interactive storyteller based in Switzerland, looking to connect with my wild.

Exploring the Galápagos Islands | Ecuador
In the summer of 2022, we spend a week off the coast of Ecuador exploring the Galápagos Islands. It was a week full of National Geographic-type scenes with unique landscapes, diverse wildlife and underwater adventures.
We got to see Blue-Footed Boobies, swim with sea lions, and even visit the location where the famous BBC reel plays out of the marine iguana being chased by snakes.

Reconnecting with nature while hiking Fløyen in spring. From the wintry landscapes of Geilo, I return to the city of Bergen on Norway's west coast. As per tradition, I hike up Mount Fløyen near the city centre. The trail starts from the north-western suburb, Eidsvågneset, and tracks south over the 'vidden' to the famous mountain top overlooking Bergen. About In Wilder Places ↟ In Wilder Places ...

'Twas a dark and stormy night... Julia and I head to the mountains for a weekend wild camp. Regular checks on the weather app showed clear skies, but a series of storms earlier that week had us on guard. Julia picked a route with a Plan B and Plan C lined up, just in case. Dreaming of Wild Camping | Valais, Switzerland

I've been dreaming of wild camping all summer. Finally, I brushed off my tent, tested my gear and set off to Valais to find my camping spot to enjoy the views of the striking Furka Pass, Switzerland. I have missed the soothing sounds of nature, and relished in cooking outside. We even finished our adventure with a trip to the Rhône Glacier on Furka Pass. 00:00 - Wild camping in Switzerland 07:0...

Hi! Im currently living in Graubünden. Would you mind telling me near which lake you camped? I would be interested to try and camp there. Cheers
WHAT A STAR!
⭐️ ⭐️ you are for watching 🙏
6:43--- PLEASE avoid leg over leg- it blocks arteries. Take care😊
I LOVE thus . You make it look easy. Practise makes perfect right?.
I want that life so bad, society sucks😢
Congratulations. When exactly was this filmed?
Thank you :) It was July 2022
OH MY GOSH~~ HI MY DEAR ------💋
Two years in the making, but glad the video finally made it out :)
Wow.....i was here today.... Its amazing. I started in zug at my Apartment and walk until Sattel..... 22km... Cant wait for the Next time... Thanks for your amazing videos.
It is such a beautiful hike! I hope you did it on a good weather day 🌞
Noo was rainy 😂 but doesnt matter! Was wonderful. Allready planing the next tour. Maybe see u one day 😊
What a very beautiful video!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Do you plan on hiking the Via Alpina?
@@InWilderPlaces I am! I fly to Zurich on August 2 and have most of the month to tackle it. Can I ask what kind of camera and film editing software you use? There's so much beauty, mindfulness, and presence in your films.
@@patrick8030 that’s very exciting! I’m glad you like the videos. I use a Sony Alpha 6600 camera with a flexible Tamron lens (2.8 and 17-70mm).
👍
Hi! Just finished this trail and boy i did sarans until after foot-pass and camped. Than hiked until elm again. It was exhausting. I couldn’t stop at foot-pass due to the wind and how cold it was. I camped inside the shelter (cheese factory) near footpads.
I know the Via Alpina is quite an experience this year with all the strange weather we’re having. Glad you managed to do it safely. I know those passes are a lot of work, but I always appreciated the views they brought. Do you plan on hiking any more?
Wow! So adorable! Thank you!Switzerland ❤❤❤🇨🇭
👍👍👍
What camera do you use for your videos?
I use a Sony Alpha 6600 usually with the Tamron 2.8 17-70mm lens
I loved hiking the Via Alpina back in 2019, half I did in summer and the other half in Autumn
Ah lovely! It really is a great hike!
Great video, thanks for creating it. I'm planning on doing this route this summer, how did you find the difficulty of the Hohtürli pass, was it easy to navigate?
Oh that’s exciting! It’s a great route! The pass is okay if you have patience and hiking with poles helped me a lot. When descending towards Kandersteg the pass has lots of loose stones so I would avoid in rainy weather if you could, otherwise just be careful. Happy hiking!
You camp below the tree line. How did you do that. I know its not allowed. But i like to use my hammock tent. Are they strict over there ?
It is a grey area in Switzerland, you are correct. I think they are quite strict regarding wildlife or nature reserves and ideally you should be above the treeline, as you said. Otherwise if you are on someone’s land you can ask their permission and then it’s okay to camp lower down. I imagine trees are important for a hammock tent - I hope you manage ☺️
@@InWilderPlaces Thanks. I just came back from Switzerland. Wildcamped below the tree line for 4 days. Didn't get busted. But got bitten by many ticks.
That’s exciting! Except for the tick part. Best monitor yourself to make sure you’re fine :)
Nice tour with great landscapes.
😍😍
♥️♥️
Wow 😮 ❤❤
I hope you guys had enough cups 😅 loved the views ❤
Just enough in the end ☺️
I just found your channel, love your adventures 😊
Awesome! Thank you! 🙏
Loved it ❤
Hi! What time of the yeR did you do the hike? Would you mind sharing the gear you used?
I’m actually working on sharing the list now on the website and on the video :) it should be out soon!
What month did you do this hike?
This section was in the middle of August :)
I am so happy to share the beautiful place you travel to.
I’m glad to hear that ☺️ there are so many lovely places to explore
Cool ❤
Beautiful footage 🩵
I’m happy you enjoyed it ☺️ it’s a beautiful place!
Breathtaking cinematography my friend! Absolutely gorgeous work!
Thank you so much 😀 Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Solitude and tranquility. That's why I love hiking in Norway too. Be well.
It’s why I like it too. The wilderness just feels different in Norway.
very pretty, love the lichen & moss.
That was almost the best part! The forest was so beautiful and quiet, and I could smell the earth.
I've loved my getaway to Norway and reconnecting with nature ❤
Love from Rus 🤝
…and I could not get to the Endagine area when in SWZ last summer- Seeing yr video of the area, I know I want to include it upon return ❤🙏🏼☮️
It was a very special experience. Autumn is beautiful everywhere, but it was something different in Engadine :)
Thank you for your work and sharing your art
Welcome back😍
It’s good to be back in the mountains again :)
I can't wait to move there!!!! Thanks so much, blessings 🌷🌹
It really is a special place! I hope you settle in nicely ☺️
I'd love to hear how you find it Deborah, as I am thinking about retiring to there or Paternoster. Annabel

It was a very special time 🍂 🧡
What beautiful conditions, winter conditions, the colors of nature and fog. I see that Graubunden is more than worth a visit. Beautiful content.
It was my first time there really as well - it was wonderful!
Beautiful content, thank you for sharing it, greetings
Thank you 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it!
It's been a while - but daydreaming about the autumn we had in Engadine last year 🍁
Hi It must have been an extraordinary adventure😮👍🍀. I like very much the narural way you show the beauty of nature and your hike. I've been watching whole your video while exercicing to prepare myself for my hikes this year. It was a pleasure and additional motivation💪. So perhaps see you on the trail and have fantastic next adventures which I hope to find on your channel... Greetings from Poland! Tomasz
It was lovely! I still think about it often ☺️ Thank you for your kind words - I’m glad the videos helped to motivate you. Are you hiking the Via Alpina this year?
I plan Picos de Europa in May, Iceland Laugavegur in summer and Alta Via1 Seprember/October. Via Alpina is my plan for short hike in summertime with my 9 years old son Leo... More serious hike in 2025 🙂 Are you hiking there this year?
@@Thomas_relaxation the Via Alpina in Switzerland or elsewhere? I hope to do some more weekend overnight hikes this year :) and also a few days in Norway again. Maybe Jotunheimen
Yes, in Switzerland. I made a few options. From Lauterbrunen or Engelberg. Hikes with wildecamping are most tempting🍀💚 so I perfectly understand😏🌌 Norway is on my list too. Lofotes Islands as example... I'd like to hike there in summer next year and maybe more also in Sweden like Kungsleden. But Jotunheimen sounds perfect to me. I would be glad to meet you somewhere on the trail...Jotunheimen or wherever😊
What a beautiful journey! You really capture the peace of thru-hiking. And it's settled... this is my alps hike in 2 months.
Wow, our village is so beautiful. This brings back so many memories from my childhood ❤
It really is a precious place and always brings back so many fond memories when I visit. When did you live there? ☺️
I've recently moved to Cape Town, but it's always so nice to visit home!
Very nice 👍
Great video!
Thank you 🙏
