Thank's to your family members who served. I don't know weather or not you're Navajo but you're probably very familiar with how much the Navajo code talkers contributed during WW2, but regardless, I have a lot to be thankful for and again I want to thank your father, your husband and your son. It appears you are a very patriotic family who loves America.

This needs to be played more across the country. Too many people forget that despite our differences, we're meant to be united together on some level. If we get too divided, we'll fall.

When I was in second grade, 1990-91, we stood up every morning and said the Pledge of Allegiance and then sang this song. That teacher was always my favorite, looking back, and Im so grateful to her for everything she taught me. ❤ 🇺🇸

Back when I was in high school, I was usually the only one who would stand for the pledge of allegiance, and sit down after the moment of silence, but they never played this song. I did have a friend ask how come I always stand for the flag.

I'm old... my 5 th grade teacher in 1982 would have us lay our heads on our desk after lunch , she would turn the lights down low and read the Bible to us.
She got in trouble as 1 student parent complained cause she was J.Witness.
But this was the best teacher I ever had❤.
She wouldn't fail anyone cause it hurt her to much inside.. that wasn't so good but her heart was 1000%in right place.
We cleared an area in woods and made wagon decor out of wood and paper.. the cooks baked the pies for us and we had a Thanksgiving service in the woods with our parents invited.
That was prior to no kid left behind crap that destroyed education.
She even brought in a churn and we all had to make butter by hand for the meal.

Yes, Lee Greenwood is the older guy, and was the original recorder of the song. You may not have noticed but this was done totally a cappella - no instruments involved. There is a group of 5 in this (not wearing fatigues) who are an a cappella group called Home Free, which include the bass singer you raised your eyebrows at, the three bearded guys, and the beatboxer.

I help out at a Senior living Center and often bring in videos to meet the need. Today was our celebration of our 247th Independence Day. This same piece was the last and closing piece for the program. We went from 07/02/1776, the day of the actual vote, thru the reading of the full Declaration, Kate Smith singing "God Bless America" for the 1st time on the radio in 1938, a 1969 video of Red Skelton explaining his school boy understanding of the Pledge of Allegiance and ending with Lee Greenwood, HF and the Singing Sergeants of the USAF.

The weekend of 9-11 we raced in Memphis Tennessee and this song played constantly until the races started. On our way to Memphis from our home in Texas we saw so many American flags at peoples homes and even the small ones people put on their cars. It was such a patriotic time in the USA. 9-11 happened on Tuesday and this was Friday the 14th. Lee Greenwood was the first guy to sing on the video and yes he has an amazing voice

Hard to believe when they recorded this version Lee Greenwood was 77 years old!! He sounds exactly the same as when he originally recorded this!!

When this song originally came out in 1984 I was in the Navy and stationed in Yokosuka Japan. We would sing this song all of the time. If we were out in a club on or off base and this song came on, the whole place would be singing. It was our connection to home. There were no international cell phones and there was no internet to communicate home.

Lee Greenwood still sounds fantastic and adding Home Free and the United States Air Force Singing Sargeants makes the song even more powerful!

Haven’t read all comments, but have yet to see anyone recognize that this was sung a capella with “Home Free”, an a capella group. Any percussion or “instruments” you think you’re hearing are vocal sounds. Stunning.

Back in 2000, I was a Sophmore in high school and my choir was chosen to go to Orlando for a Disney hosted choir competition. Lee Greenwood served as one of the judges for it. The evening of competition day they shut down Typhoon Lagoon early so the choir competitors could have it to themselves and also to host the awards ceremony there. Lee Greenwood did a private performance of this song for us before they began the ceremony.
One of the best memories I have. He was so nice!

One of the most beautiful songs. Lee Greenwood has a great voice and Home Free, they always amaze me, with how well their voices complement each other.
I remember singing this in elementary school as well.

Every person singing has an amazing voice. Most impressive though is Lee Greenwood. He still has a very strong, beautiful voice, even though he is, at the time of this recording, in his mid seventies. At the end of the song, you can hear what sound of a plane doing a fly over. That is the Home Free beatboxer, Adam Rupp.

In scrolling through comments, I see many of you have served in our military. Just want to say thank you THANK you so very much for making this astonishing country continue to be possible.
Ours is the longest-lived government in the HISTORY of the world, a fact of which most Americans, particularly in the msm, are ignorant. We're more than twice as old as the next oldest, and it's thanks to y'all.

Came out in the 80’s. Had a resurgence after 9/11. After 9/11 everyone we’re together like you said. We were united in pain and couldn’t wait until we got payback, maybe not right but we were angry. My best friends son, who I felt like was my son (even though I was only 10 years older than him). That whole time was horrible.

As other’s said I am so glad that you get the idea of this song mirrors the idea of this country.
We have goals for what we should be and though we have yet to fully realize them, and perhaps never will , we nonetheless aspire to and in that effort continue to better ourselves on the way.

Tomorrow, I will go say hi to my dad. He's laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. He named me for his big brother, an honor for sure, my uncle who gave his life fighting the Nazis in World War II. After some time in Arlington I will go to the park that surrounds the Marine Memorial. This overlooks Washington D.C. for those who don't know from this spot we will watch the fireworks as we celebrate the 4th of July. It's a great day to be an American then again every day is! Watching your reaction it is easy to see how much you love OUR country ... because clearly you are all in on being American, a beautiful thing!
