The Carpenters were amazing! I cried and cried when Karen passed away, her beautiful voice was so amazing! I never understood how she could think that she was overweight and not pretty. SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL AND NEVER OVERWEIGHT! My heart broke for her and the way she felt about herself. Such a beautiful lady inside and out!
Karen overheard some executives discussing her weight, and her mother was a control freak and touted her brother over her so she never felt comfortable in her own skin. She became anorexic before anyone knew what that was. When she passed away it brought that disease to the forefront and they began to look into the cause of that. Entertainer's were always made to thin down for the camera so it was an industry issue. The camera would always add 10-15 pounds to the visual so they were all in a similar boat as Karen. It just hit her harder because it caused her to have a weak heart and that is what she succumbed to, heart failure.

Also check out another great songwriter/singer, Dolly Parton - particularly the song, "Jolene." God, that's a great song! Enjoy the journey!

I was never much of a Carpenter's fan, as I was always a rock and blues person, but as a fellow vocalist, I have to admire the pure talent they showed as a group. Stunning harmonies and a fantastic vibe with every song they did. Regardless of your choice of genre, never forget the the talent it takes to make music that beautiful, regardless of if it's your choice to listen to it or not. Accept that talent transposes all genre's.

The best female voice of all time. Unmatched for her tone, warmth and vocal range. As of today, October 7, 2023, Richard Carpenter is working on a new studio album. This album will be her first solo recording since 1987's "Time Out of Mind." Carpenter has been working on the album for several years, and has been searching for a vocalist who can fill the void left by her sister Karen, who died in 1983. In an interview with Billboard in 2022, Carpenter said that the album will have a sound similar to that of the Carpenters, but that it will also be an evolution of his sound. "It's still soft rock, but it's a little more modern," Carpenter said. "There's also a bit of experimentation." Carpenter has not yet announced a release date for the album, but has said that he hopes it will be released in 2024. In addition to his work on the new album, Carpenter is also working on a documentary about the life and career of the Carpenters. The documentary, which is being produced by the company "Greenwich Entertainment", will be released in 2024. Carpenter also continues to tour and give concerts. In 2023, he toured the United States with singer-songwriter Michael Feinstein. There is no voice today that compares to Karen Carpenter's. She was a unique musical genius in the world and goes far beyond her time. It without autotune or any other manipulation. Just her voice and her brother Richard's incredible arrangements. No current artist can match this in this era. Karen was also one of the best drummers of her time and she could sing well while she played the drums simultaneously. A true top talent. RIP Karen Carpenter, We will always remember you and love you!!! QEPD Karen Carpenter, ¡¡¡ Siempre te recordaremos y te querremos!!! 💛💛💛
Great Reaction!! Growing up in the 60's/70's the Carpenters were a big part of my life's soundtrack! Something that a lot of younger people don't realize is what a HUGE variety of music styles were very much mainstream. Not only did we hear (on a regular basis) the music that our parents liked (Big Band, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Doris Day) --don't forget, the "Grown-Ups" controlled the family's one TV, and the radio in the family car until the teenager could mow enough lawns or babysit enough kids to buy their own AM/FM radio for their room! Once we had our own radio we had rock and roll, folk rock, easy rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, acid rock, bubble gum, pop, country rock, traditional country, easy listening, Motown, R&B, disco and more! It was truly a magical time for popular music AND for growing up. I ALWAYS enjoy your reaction videos and I look forward to seeing more!
Yes! Watching these reaction videos has made me appreciate the variety of music we had growing up. Not many comments include the older artists (RIP Tony Bennett) although some of them continued to produce music into the seventies and beyond. When I was reading your long list of styles available to us I was thinking, “Yeah, and all on the same radio station.” Maybe in larger cities there were more specialized stations but where I grew up, besides the rock station, I think you also had a choice of country, soul, and classical music. Maybe there were others but I only listened to the rock station. We called it a rock station but they played a lot of crossover songs as well. It still catches me off guard when a reactor asks, “What genre is this?” I think, “Why are you asking us? We didn’t think that way except for in broad terms, for the most part, although I know there were some who were more aware of the various styles than others. As for me, I was shocked to hear Charlie Daniels referred to as a country singer. This was probably a few decades after “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”. In my defense, that song, and a few others of his, were played on the rock station, and it didn’t sound like the old school, twangy country music of the time.
Karen Carpenter probably does (did) have the best female voice ever and that is saying a lot. Please check out more of these two siblings. Her voice is so pure while also being strong and powerful. This song only gave you a glimpse of her vocal talent.
My husband and I danced our first dance at our wedding in 1980 to this song. And so did thousands of other couples. It's just perfect. She had the voice of an angel.
I enjoyed see the awe in your face when heard the magical voice of Karen Carpenter. I grew up listening to their music. You will never hear a bad song from them. She had a talent for reaching into the soul of the people listening to hear. She was one of a kind. No one will ever come close.
What made the Carpenters amazing is the fact that beautiful pitch perfect voice came from a woman who was diagnosed as being tone deaf. It’s why she played the drums.
Karen and Richard Carpenter...brother and sister, nothing like sibling harmony!! Karen was an amazing voice, she always said she was a drummer who sang. Richard, every bit as accomplished, kinda put Karen in the front...what a brother he was to her!! Carpenters rabbit hole is a real thing!!
She had perfect pitch❤️. Her brother Richard played the piano and did the arrangements for their songs. She was the drummer. We’ve Only Just Begun has been sung at many weddings throughout the years.
One of the most besutiful female voices God ever created. Like walking inside on a frigid day and wrapping yourself in an electric blanket. Cozy soothing melllow voice.
A legendary vocalist and an epic drummer. Karen was a incomparable musician and there will NEVER be another that comes close to her. I'm just so grateful there is video so all future generations can marvel at this exceptional talent. Richard was a legendary arranger and pianist responsible for the layered harmonies. The world lost a treasure. Sebs - the song was written by Paul Williams for a bank commercial. Richard heard the commercial and asked Paul if he had a full song. Richard took it and arranged it and Karen's voice made it magic. It is still one of the most popular wedding songs of all time. Karen and Richard are siblings. She died when her heart gave out as a result of anorexia. Yes, just 32 years old. Give SUPERSTAR a listen. It'll change your life.
Karen Carpenter had an angelic voice. So peaceful and calm. I love her holiday music too. So much tragedy in her life but she left so much great music. I just want to remember that.
The Carpenters left us with a wonderful discography. Having grown up in the 60's and 70's, I listened to their music daily. When I was 12 or 13, I got a horse named Alladin, Laddy for short. Whenever I would get upset or feel down, I would go out with him and I would sing "Top of the World" to him. It brought me much comfort. So yes, that is my favorite song by the Carpenters.
In the studio, the backing harmonies ARE her voice, along with Richard and no one else. They learned how to "overdub" early on in their professional career. How they found musicians who could also sing and replicate their studio sound live was pretty amazing.
Sebs Duran as soon as you started playing the song and I saw immediately in your face how you thought you had died and gone to heaven or were a little kid again asking this beautiful girl to sing you a lullaby and she did and it's like you could just close your eyes or open your eyes and feel like you were in heaven I couldn't even talk the whole time Karen Carpenter was singing and her brother and band or accompanying her God I can't believe after all these years I'm 73 years old and it's still grabs me the way it does Thank you dude that's all I want to say!
Live music in the 60s and 70s was phenomenally good. No effects. Medieval sound systems, and in this rather primitive recordins of the live shows, the bands still sounded than most live performances today. Such talent. I was lucky to be front and center at concerts ih LA and SF during this heyday! More Karin Carpenter reactions, please. You really get it!
That song started as a bank commercial - reaching out to young couples wanting to buy their first house. Richard Carpenter heard it and worked with the composer to make it a full length hit song I LOVE IT when young people like yourself discover and enjoy my generations music. My wife and are married 50 yes and this is our song!
I grew up listening to The Carpenters. I read where a gentleman described Karen's voice as being "pure velvet", warm and smooth. Like a gentle hug. I think that's the best description.
This song was composed by Paul Williams for Crocker Bank ad in the 70’s. The Carpenters asked Paul Williams if they can record the song, they did a mellower version of it and it became a hit. Paul Williams was so pleased with it.
Sing and play so effortlessly. Was so fortunate to grow up with this extremely talented duo. "Close to You" was a must play at every high school dance and many couples took their wedding vows to "We've Only Just Begun". Carpenters bring back many pleasant memories and Karens ANGELIC voice is so heartwarming!
My first concert in 1972. She really was this good. A memory I cherish. In my 50 years of concerts there were only 2 other artists that left me with chills and I knew I was watching someone special. They are Adam Lambert on his own solo show and with Queen. Adam's voice is very special. When you're in a smaller venue you can feel his voice vibrate through you. All around me everyone kept saying wow as he hit note after note of perfection. He was incredible with Queen and he is definitely the right person to be the person fronting Queen. The other I saw live a few weeks ago and he brought me to tears he was so good. It was 15 yr old Taj Farrant. Talking to Taj he's a really nice great kid who will answer your questions and has a really good knowledge of music. When he got onstage he was mind blowing.
This was the class song in my high school in ‘73. When my son came along 20 years later, I sang these songs to him every night. I wished I sounded like her. And she’s a fantastic drummer as well.

I would place Eva Cassidy on the same level as KC.
No...EVA CASSIDY was.
Why is it I NEVER get tired of watching someone’s reaction upon their first encounter with a Carpenters song?
I hear you. i have sent hours at a time watching peoples reactions. its great and may her voice touch others heart and soul as it has mine for 50 years. I'm going to turn on some Carpenter"s Christimas music. It's time Nov.1st
Because she is so amazing.
With Karen's voice and Richard being the master of arrangements, they were an unstoppable duo.
Karen's voice was like a warm hug, that broke your heart.
Karen's voice was a gift from god!
Yes, absolutely.
No it wasn't...theres no such thing as god.
Her record company expressed the desire for her to "lose a little weight." What devastation they wrought.
She had a mental illness called body dysmorphic disorder. So sad 😭
@@candicelitrenta8890 it's most likely more complex than that. anorexia and body dysmorphia are truly medical/psychiatric disorders. There wasn't that much treatment back in that day.
"I Won't Last A Day Without You" is a song that shows Karen's incredible range. Gone too soon. The voice of an angel.
Angelic voice of perfection. There will never be a voice like it. Gone to soon! Rest in peace Miss Carpenter
and no auto tune . just talent
Yep - this was a HUGE wedding song. The Carpenters' music is a BIG rabbit hole - jump in. Karen's voice was like silk. It is so soothing. YES YES YES - you can play ANYTHING from their catalog and you will love it. Lots of their songs were covered by so many other artists and used in films. "Superstar" is one of them. Also, one of my favorites is "Bless the Beasts and the Children," "I Need to Be in Love," "Solitaire," and the Christmas song "Merry Christmas, Darling."
Yep it was my parents song. Mom loved the Carpenters, still does. She had several of their records.
That Song was written by “Little Enos “ from “Smokey and The Bandit” Aka Paul Williams.
@russellbrown1068 Paul Williams is a national treasure as well! He made most of my childhood memories better! "Rainbow Connection", "Bugsy Malone" soundtrack, and some of The Carpenters greatest songs!
Fil, from Wings of Pegasus channel has put many Carpenters songs under voice analyzer software…and Karen was actually often even more precise/pitch perfect LIVE…she was often called “One-take Karen” for how perfect she was in the recording studio also.
Yes, thank you for the shout-out to Fil. I watch him often and love his analasys and break-downs of both vocal and instramental talent. Was going to bring him up to Sebs. I think he'd find it interesting.
FIL is awesome
Pretty amazing how great her voice and pitch were.
What a really sad loss for the world.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee - Take your Meds 🤣
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Who says she can't sing between the keys?? HAVE YOU REALLY LISTENED TO HER?? Karen could sing anything from contemporary and rock writers to the Great American Songbook!!!
Carpenters was one of my favorite groups in the 70's, I love all of their songs!
It never fails when people hear Karen for the firs time they're blown away and why wouldn't they be! She was the greatest female singer in the history of recorded music and still is to this day. Experts have analyzed her vocal quality LIVE with her recordings and they match. She was that great. She is gone but her music lives on forever.
Karen Carpenter : vocal perfection AND an extraordinary drummer 🎉❤ She was phenomenal ✨️ ❤
When i was a child my mom would play the Carpenters to calm me down when i was upset. Karen Carpenter's voice is so soothing. I cried like a baby when she died.
Me too.
I did too❤
Yes, she really was outstanding. Her brother was also outstanding with his arrangements & piano accompaniment. They were a dynamite combination.
Sebs, you won’t go wrong going down the Carpenters rabbit hole. Karen’s voice is the most unique female voice ever. She sang “contralto,” which is so beautiful!
Unfortunately, Karen lost her life early on, and very tragically. We lost a very angelic voice, but we are very blessed to have all of her music available to us to enjoy.
I have several favorites, but the one that makes me cry and hits my heart is called “I Need To Be In Love.”
Enjoy!!!!
That's my favorite and you don't hear many reactors reacting to it.
Apparently that was Karen's favorite. 😢
@@Ozefan2580 I read that it was. I can understand why.
According to Linda G, Karen C. is singing with the angels.
i only know their Greatest Hits. thanks for the tip.
She had the most beautiful voice. Good God! So much talent!!
This was the #1 wedding song of my generation - so many people used it. Karen Carpenter and brother, Richard are LEGEND. Keep listening to their music - they are stories being told. Also check out another great songwriter/singer, Dolly Parton - particularly the song, "Jolene." God, that's a great song! Enjoy the journey!
She is my favorite female singer that ever lived..❤
Mine as well
As we get older we start to appreciate beautiful voices like Karen’s.
The Carpenters Greatest Hits is phenomenal!!!❤️ Karen Carpenter’s voice was pure silk; so soothing‼️
Superstar is one of my favorite Carpenters’ song. Karen Carpenter is one of my favorite all time singers.
Thanks for showing The Carpenters. Her voice was incredible.
This song was sung at my wedding 40+ years ago. Still gives me goosebumps
Many couples used this as one of the wedding songs that long ago. I used a different song of theirs for one of my songs. Such a talent.
I loved Karen Carpenters voice, my heart broke watching her deteriorate 😢 she could sing her way through the telephone directory and it would have sounded beautiful..R.I P. Karen, never forgotten ❤
I was in tears when I heard she died.
I took my girlfriend to see The Carpenters way back in 1972. They were just as great live!
I saw them in 1972, also. I am so grateful that I was able to experience them in person.
I saw them in 74!
At my girlfriend's request, I took her to see The Carpenters in 1971. I'll never regret it.
Jealous!!!! So so jealous
She had such a God given naturally beautiful voice! No autotune, just pure talent!
So glad I grew up in that era where you could hear The Carpenters on the radio. Karen had such a beautiful voice, a God-given talent.
I had a crush on her :)
We all did, right?
Karen had the purest voice of any female vocalist of the last century, imo.
And so far this century too.
She always sounds like she is singing just to me. Just an extremely perfect voice.
I'm so glad you reviewed her. She is my most favorite singer of all time. I have all her records and still listen to them today. I will always adore her.
Karen Carpenter was famous for doing one perfect take in the studio.
My husband and I met when I was 16. We married when I was 21. His Mom & Dad gave us a music box with this song playing for our wedding over 30 years ago. It's the one gift that we still have, it's still out in our home, we still listen to it and it's one of the most cherished things we own ❤
She had perfect pitch. They were both really talented.
Richard Carpenter is one of the best arrangers in pop music. His arrangements show off Karen's voice to perfection.
Karen Carpenter to this day remains my all time favorite vocalist! For me it's not Christmas until I hear Merry Christmas, Darling by Karen Carpenter! ❤
Karen had the best female voice in all of music but her heart was with the drums. There's a video of her drumming that is amazing to see. Rest In Peace Karen. You're still missed.
It’s sad that she had this internal struggle about her apoearance. She truly was a beautiful person, in/out and blessed with such a beautiful voice.
Yes it is So Heartbreaking that Karen was cursed by a disease - very much unknown at the time - that controlled her mind totally and eventually her body to the point she could no longer sustain a life 😢 we could all see what a beautiful woman inside and out that she was and that is the hurtful part of it all - she just couldn't see it 😢 RIP Lovely Karen 💜 We miss you So Much ❣️
And her mother's control and no affection for her. Just for Richard
You can recognise her voice anywhere, she has the most soulful voice I've ever heard 🙏🌹🙏 She left us way to young ❤
She was amazing, such a horrible loss. Was my first introduction to eating disorders. My favorite female singer when I was younger. Her voice was perfection.
"There's also a bit of experimentation."
Carpenter has not yet announced a release date for the album, but has said that he hopes it will be released in 2024.

QEPD Karen Carpenter, ¡¡¡ Siempre te recordaremos y te querremos!!! 💛💛💛
Thanks so much for the bilingual comment!
EVA CASSIDY!!!
@ORWELL_USA Yep... another beautiful voice we lost too early, tragically. Eva's version of Fields of Gold is sublime.
She had such a pure voice. Rainy Days and Mondays is one of my favorites!
This song was sung at many weddings back in the day. Karen had a voice like no other. A life cut too short.
Her voice is perfect in every way!
Thank you for listening to how beautiful Karen Carpenter sang and how natural voices can sound without technology 😊
Even as she went thru her health issues, she never lost her beautiful voice quality.
She had perfect pitch❤️. Her brother Richard played the piano and did the arrangements for their songs. She was the drummer. We’ve Only Just Begun has been sung at many weddings throughout the years.
All the vocals in the studio, ALL, were Karen and Richard only. Pretty amazing.
You notice she's also playing the drums. She was a monster drummer as well as a singer. She was more comfortable behind the kit. RIP Karen
Such a sweet and powerful voice. The backing harmonies are perfect for her voice.
In the studio, the backing harmonies ARE her voice, along with Richard and no one else. They learned how to "overdub" early on in their professional career. How they found musicians who could also sing and replicate their studio sound live was pretty amazing.
My favorite singer of all time.
The epitome of early 70's pop. Not only was her voice amazing but her annunciation of vowels and consonants was 2nd to none.
Yes!!! Definitely do more Carpenters! Her voice is so soothing. It makes me think of when I was little and riding around in the car with my mom. ❤
That song started as a bank commercial - reaching out to young couples wanting to buy their first house. Richard Carpenter heard it and worked with the composer to make it a full length hit song
I LOVE IT when young people like yourself discover and enjoy my generations music.
The Carpenters Christmas album is the best. Truly showed Karen Carpenter’s talent.
Never tire of listening to the Carpenters and Karen’s voice it was a sad day hearing the news she had died can’t believe it’s 40yrs ago R.I.P Karen
