Hi Tyanna! I love how you explain the skills and topics you explore in your sustainability job along with the day-to-day. I am also a work-from home energy and sustainability analyst and found much of this relatable! I'd love to connect :)
I absolutely love the comforting, soothing vibe you exude both by how you talk and the editing in this video! Feels so cozy while also really informative
Hi Tyanna, nice to see what you are doing all day. And great that you packaged with this vlog a lot of useful information about GHG reporting and SBTi. Those topics are so important as we can only optimize what we measure... have a nice time. Maybe one day we can exchange about our daily work 😀
Hello Tyanna! Thank you for making this video, it's the first/only one I have seen that really gave me an idea of the position. I am currently an undergrad majoring in economics and minoring in environmental science. I am wondering if you would be able to give me an idea of which concentration I should choose that would best fit a sustainability analyst! Thanks so much
Hi Kelsey, can you tell me more about the different concentrations that are offered to you? It varies from school-to-school. I would think that focusing on data-related OR strategy-related concentrations would be best in this field.
I really appreciate the video! I just switched my undergrad major from Wildlife Biology to Sustainability Management and was curious to see what similar careers/paths look like! Best of luck to you :)
@@mafelemus04 sure! I switched because I know many people in the wildlife field, and you can't skate by with just a degree alone. It's highly competitive and almost completely dependant on skills and networking. Plus, my first and second semester was teeming with math classes (statistics, calculus, etc) and as much as I try, I SUCK at math. Sustainability Management however has a very healthy job outlook with many different companies you can work for. From the fashion industry to food, they all need a professional to step in and help with their sustainability efforts. I also tell myself that I'd be helping the earth by targeting/helping arguably the biggest polluters on the planet - companies! The only math I need is statistics and algebra, and it more dependant on communication skills and planning rather than heavy math and sciences. Hope this helps. If you have any questions lmk.
Also, the lifestyle wildlife Biology comes with isn't for me. I'd have to move to where the jobs are which is unsustainable for my life goals (having a home, raising a family, etc). I've even heard of some people PAYING to have a job in wildfire biology so they can have credit in the study which helps boost their resume. It's really not for me.
Thanks Anubis! I am literally the same with Maths. I even find this much difficult but I'm willing to learn. Your comment helped me think more clearly too!
Hi there! I am soon to graduate and am sleeking advice on what steps to take to get into positions like the one you are in. I’m excited to continue my research, especially through your videos and would love to talk more about what you do and your opinions I’m the field! Thank you so much for the informational video!
Hi Jose! Congrats on graduating soon! I get a ton of requests these days so if you’re interested in setting a 1:1 chat then would recommend for you to do it through my link: beacons.ai/tyannabui
Hi Tyanna! I'm looking to start a career in sustainability, so your video really helped out! Do you have any suggestions for certifications that would be helpful?
I am trying to get my foot in the door to entry level sustainability consulting and analysis jobs, I would really appreciate it if you would talk to me more about it!
Hi Tyanna! Thanks for the video. Just wanted to know have you made any video on countries with great ESG opportunities. And what courses one should pursue in ESG to build up their profile .
Hi Tyanna! Great video and so glad I found your channel! This gave me a great insight into this position. I’ve been working in the environmental space for quite some time now and have been thinking about the next step in my career and potentially going back for grad school. I saw in the comments that you have your Master’s, did that help you get this position/future positions? Thank you so much for the video! Take care!☺️
Hi Jée! Thanks for tuning in. I’d say that my masters definitely helped me get into the industry a bit smoother. It’s more often than not, at least at the company I’m at, to have a masters degree. That’s not to say though that it’s a MUST. It just depends on the experience you currently have and such. Hope this helps!
Hi, I have just got a job as a sustainability analyst in the UK for a healthcare company, working from home 4 days a week, this video has made me super excited to start!! Do you have any tips on anything I need to know to do well at the job/impress them? Thank you!
Hey thank you so much for sharing!! I'm thinking about a career pivot and this was really helpful:) I do have a question- what did you study in school and had you done any internships prior to working with this agency?
Hi Akai, thanks for taking the time to stop by! I got my masters in environmental science & management and had previously help numerous internship roles focused in marketing and communications. Pretty much a lot of my colleagues who are entry level all came from diverse backgrounds with skills that were translate-able to the industry. Hope this helps!
Hey there! I love this video. I'm just getting into the sustainability field and have found this to be really helpful. If you don't mind my asking, what would be the average compensation for your job position. Even if you gave some sort of range that would be super helpful too!
Hi Angie thanks for stopping by to ask this question! An analyst salary can range from $60-80K for someone in California, USA based on conversations I’ve had with others. Of course the range is dependent on the industry & experience
Hiii Tyanna thank you for making this video. Is it possible for me as an environmental engineer graduate to pursue a career as an ESG Analyst since I dont have any financial study background
Hi Tyanna! Thanks for making the video. It's so informative and you look lovely. I will start my Master's in Sustainability Practice soon and I'm wondering if it can lead to a career that is more about nature, like Ecology. Do you have any insight about this?
Hi Felisabe, great question. There are actually a lot of jobs in the ecology/nature area. A lot of my friends in grad school had these types of focuses. Mines just more geared toward business so unfortunately don't have the most insight!
Hi Tyanna, thank you for this video, it is a huge help for us. I would like to ask you why you chose the consultant and how did you think that you could do it?
Hi there, I chose consulting at the time honestly because graduating at the start of the pandemic left me with little opportunities to choose from and my graduate school projects involved consulting with several companies. It was the path that made my resume the strongest but was ultimately a blessing in disguise because I enjoy this field a ton.
Hi Tyanna! Thank you for sharing your experience, it's really helpful. I have Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, at that point I didn't know anything about environmental/ sustainable careers. Now I want to switch to this green field but can't understand where to start. Is it possible to get an internship/fellowship without any education in Environmental science? Or maybe do you know any online courses/ certifications that can help to get started? Of course, I also consider getting a Master's but from now on it takes around 3 more years, and I want to contribute as soon as possible.
Hi there, yes it's definitely more beneficial if you have some knowledge of environmental science to get your foot in the door. There are some roles out there, though, that are less technical and can have sustainability be a part of their focus (e.g., project management, communications, policy, etc.). I'd recommend that you research more on what you want to do in sustainability and work backward from their on your knowledge gap. Good luck!
Hello! I just found your channel now and you are so inspired me 🥰. It is so nice to know you Tyanna! My name is Katherine, I am a final year, undergraduate student, majoring resources and environmental economics. I am curious what soft ware did you use and did you get any certificate or training for become sustainability consultant?
Hi Katherine, thanks for taking a watch at my video! 😊 I'm not certified in anything and really started training when I got my job. The industry is still new so a lot of consulting jobs are willing to take on new hires who are willing to learn the technical aspects! The only software that I used a lot was Excel so would recommend being good at the one
How did you get into Sustainability Consulting? I have been working as a sustainability advisor at a couple small companies, helping them to get their b corp certification while helping them in other areas (eg PR, graphic design), but I want to get into a job that is more focused on making a difference, so sustainability consulting is super interesting to me. I would love to chat about it.
Hello! Thanks so much for this video. What was the name of your degree? This is partly what I’m working toward with my environment studies and sustainability undergrad.
Hi there, I wouldn’t say you need any specific certifications in particular. There are protocols online such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol that provides step by step instruction on how to do energy calculations. Hope this helps!
thanks for your videos, its great to see people talking about environment and working in such jobs. As a student, this is motivating. but just a no hate question, why do you speak like that? sounds very annoying. dont. thanks anyway.
