    Very inspiring! With a master degree in urban ecological planning and just resigned from another grad school in Netherlands partly due to the fact that my colleagues are younger than me . Turning 31 I’m going through your undergrads experience since I didn’t have the freedom exploring much under the Chinese educational system (5 years for my degree). My parents forced me to enter the industry (mining) I’m not interested in and feel unethical about. After countless arguments and strikes, they finally let go. And I am expecting study offers in Sustainability Management and Climate Change Management. Anyway thanks for the video💜

    Hey Tyanna thank you so much for videos like this! I am at a point of career change but still researching that niche for myself. I am definitely quite into the idea of sustainability industry, so I've got some questions about getting into the industry:
    I studied hospitality management in my undergrad, would a postgrad/master degree help with future job hunting in the sustainability industry?
    Would you recommend doing internship/volunteer works in the relevant fields before starting careers?
    What are some entry level jobs in the industry (I can research about)?

I was going to minor in biology because I wanted to work more with animals or study something maybe about that and impacts on climate chain for us and them?? But I can also see myself working for a gov company as well (not as much interested but good job). I have no idea If minoring in biology is beneficial or if I should minor in environmental science. So new to all this! Thank you for your video!!

    This was the video I needed, thank you Tyanna for making this video so digestable and informative! I am considering of pivoting into sustainability after working in legal for 5 years and it seems like pursing a masters is the easiest way to pivot. However, we often hear how different theoritical knowledge learned is school isn't helpful when it comes to real world work. What are your thought on this for your field? :)

    • @TyannaBui
      @TyannaBui  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Jacqueline, thanks for tuning in! I definitely understand how in uni, learning theories don't translate to the actual conditions in the workplace. However, that's why I'd emphasize how important it is to choose your graduate degree based on what you'll get out of that program. In my experience, it seems that those with master's degrees in this space are becoming more prominent, but if there's a way for you to find what your gap knowledge is for the role you want, and fill in those gaps without getting your master's, then that can work as well. Hope this helps!

    Thanks Tyanna! I was wondering which specific technical credentials and certifications do you think will be most valuable for sustainability consultants, now through the next 2-3 years? [Doesn't have to only apply to big public companies like Disney (SEC regulated)...could be for mid-size or private company engagements too.]

    • @TyannaBui
      @TyannaBui  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Randal, this is definitely a great question. It really depends on what type of work you want to be in while doing consulting. I would encourage you to research some consulting companies and look at their customer services. Read through each of them and figure out which you're interested in and build your technical skills around that. For example, if you're interested in creating sustainability reports for companies (as that's a common consulting service), read up on the common frameworks such as the GRI or TCFD. The GRI offers certifications for its framework, but not all do.
      I know this is isn't a straight answer, but consulting is so diverse. The best way to figure out which credentials you need is to reverse engineer starting from what work you want to do.

      Hi Michael thanks for watching this video!! Means a lot that it might’ve been somewhat helpful 😊 I think the next step from what you’ve said is to just start applying RIGHT NOW! Securing first job roles (without any insider connections) can take anywhere from 4-6 months on average to secure. I’m sure your school has some networking event within the industry so reach out the your schools career team! I always say to have an in-depth conversation with a professor or TA you built a relationship with because they have a ton of work/life experience and connections to share.

      Hi there! It’s definitely possible to take any types of courses outside your major if it peaks your interest. Typically the first couple of years are for you to take your general education classes and those are most likely subjects of your choice. Then, in your third/fourth year, you’ll focus more to complete your major requirements. Some people, like me, chose a major and minor to complete whereas some have complete double majors. You’ll be able to figure out the type of workload that works best for you when you start off your college experience!
