    Hi Tyanna! New subscriber here. I'm studying sustainability these days. It's been a passion I've had since I was in HS and it only burned more during my architecture college yrs. Back then it wasn't as often discussed as now but back then I already knew I want to be an expert on this and incorporate this on my practice. It's nice to find you channel here and looking forward to learn more from a professional like you. Hope you keep on posting more contents like this. Thanks!

    Hi Tyanna, thank you for this awesome video. Please could you talk more about necessary technical skills needed for this role ? For example consulting for a real estate development company that wants to go green.

    • @TyannaBui
      @TyannaBui  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, I'm not too familiar with the real estate industry but I'm thinking it's more geared towards knowing green building standards (e.g., LEED-certified, how to make sure it uses energy efficiently). I'd recommend researching a consulting firm that specializes in real estate and see what services they offer. That'll give you a better idea of what actual tech skills are in the space. Hope this helps!

    • @TyannaBui
      @TyannaBui  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! I'd recommend you take your basic science courses, as I'm sure you have to complete them anyways. If your HS has it, there's an AP class called AP Environmental Science (APES) which will help you learn a bit more about the field. I'd also recommend that you focus your math options on stats vs calculus. I know they both suck but you use stats a whole lot more and will help you build a good knowledge base for data analysis courses in the future if you choose to stay in the Environmental Science pathway in college. Good luck

    Hey Tynna, thank you for this video! I had a question - I currently have offers from universities for September start. Is it best to choose the university with the best reputation or the course which best matches a sustainbility career?
    I have an offer for a Geography with Business & Innovation course from an Ivy league equivlent uni here in the UK. But I had orginally planned to study environmental management at a different intitute! The offer from this university has thrown me off - such a hard choice!
    Thank you so much for any opinions you can give :D

      Hi there! Thanks for asking this question. Im not sure if this is in reference towards an undergrad or grad program but will assume it’s for a grad program. The factors that I would weigh and consider here are the courses that align to my career goals, alumni network, career team, and the thesis project objective and seeing how they each compare. Hope this helps!

    do you need impact skills for positive change? If I am right, I notice people hired for sustainability and ESG do not have such skills, is that true and is that a lack of it?

    • @TyannaBui
      @TyannaBui  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, that's a good point you bring up. Everyone is different but having impact skills would make someone more successful at the company especially since sustainability/esg teams are always working with others to get their projects going. In my experience, I'd say that the sustainability teams that do the boots on the ground work have to build these skills up more than a team that just solely focuses on esg metrics

    Hi Tyanna! Just found your channel and love your videos! I was wondering whether you think learning R is a necessary skill for sustainability data analysis, or if you just need to know Excel. I'm not sure exactly what you meant when you mentioned Excel's superior at the end of section 2 of this video, but I think you meant that Excel is the most important for data analysis. Am I right in thinking this? Should I learn R as well for sustainability roles which include analysis?

    • @TyannaBui
      @TyannaBui  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Theo, thanks for the clarifying question! I meant that while R is a great skill to have for data analysis (esp in big companies that deal with large datasets), most still primarily use Excel to conduct their analyses. I hope this makes more sense!

    • @TyannaBui
      @TyannaBui  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Komal, thanks for asking this question and for giving my videos a watch 🥺
      Data analysis courses should be focused around using programs like Excel and/or R where you practice taking messy datasets, organizing it in a way where it can be analyzed, and draw conclusions based on your findings. I feel like in university, this can be found in the computer science or science departments.
      For GHG reporting, here's a website (ghgprotocol.org/training-capacity-building) where you can learn about the basic principles of carbon accounting. This costs money, but the guidance document is available to the public for free.
      ESG courses are typically seen in environmental science or business university departments. There are a lot of webinars online about this topic such as from here (www.greenbiz.com/webcasts) where you can learn more about it.

    Hi Tyanna, can you tell us how to figure out emissions factors? Like are you supposed to be able to read an EEIO table? I'm trying to figure out the GHG of an investment portfolio.

    • @TyannaBui
      @TyannaBui  ปีที่แล้ว

      Emissions factors help convert your activity data to CO2e. You definitely should have an understanding of EEIO if you’re calculating the GHG of an investment portfolio. I’d say you can get good info from doing basic Googling research.

    • @EnneagramTarot-zu8kp
      @EnneagramTarot-zu8kp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TyannaBui haha yes I've done 2.5 days of research on this. I think the EPA provides good data and tutorials for the US, but for Canada, I can't find any good tutorials. We're calculating for building, so I think it comes down to converting mTCO2/m2 to mTCO2/sqft, and then finding the energy usage by province. Did you take a class in university for this math?
