My lecture in Sustainability Assessment and Reporting unit has shown this video as part of the module's learning material. What a great video about sustainability.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm currently trying to enter the sustainability industry and learn about the skills needed to get started, and this (and your whole channel!) is so helpful 🙏
Hi there! Welcome to the space & am so happy you’re finding help through my channel! I know it’s so confusing in the beginning but once you take your first steps everything will fall in place ☺️
hey appreciate the video! Ive just started my work in a consultancy firm revolves around ESG. i love change and i want to sustainability to move asap in Malaysia. keep up the informative video and networkingggg
If a small business wants to make an ESG report on its own, then seek to get an Assurance statement from third-party independence. Where to look for? what type of company/service company and what titles have the authorization to issue and sign on the statement?
Hi Tyanna, thank you so much for this video! As someone who worked in a labour rights NGO in Asia, it's disappointing to see that ESG is still mostly focused on the E vs the S, as well as the fact that the evidence is searched for in the documents and not practice. Self-reporting by department staff in consultations may also, in my mind, be self-censored. In your view do these disclosure processes overall capture implementation and whether the documents reflect reality?
Hey Tyanna, Thank you so much for an inspiring and very helpful video! As a self-learner towards sustainability, I found this video is such a great resource 😊. Looking forward to more videos and sharings from you 😊
so interesting and very pleasantly surprised to find youtube videos on this! def gives practical information on this industry and...i'm literally watching this at my env eng internship lmaoo
Great question! I originally got my skills from school, internships, and talking to others in the industry. I continue to grow and improve based on where I want to pivot my career. For example, I did a lot of work in GHG accounting and when I realized I wanted to do more storytelling vs data analysis, I pivoted towards learning about reporting and environmental comms.
Thank you so much for your video! I think it's very useful. I have a question: Let's say you want to do a full assessment of a company, starting from retrieving data with research, offering strategy and then reporting. Would you say the first process is the materiality analysis, or a disclosure survey like CDP, DJSI or simillar? Why would you do one before the other? Hope you can help me! Thanks in advance
Hi Esteban, the first step of the process depends on the goal of the company environmental assessment. If it’s understanding it’s baseline, then it’s data analysis; investor/stakeholder communications then reporting disclosures; figuring out what stakeholders care about then materiality assessment. Hope this helps
How can one start career....in Sustainability... Can we define a career path? Which qualification/ certifications/ trainings required? What is the sequence of it?
Hi there! ☺️ I’d recommend for you to check out my career roadmap video: th-cam.com/video/vsZW4kRFekI/w-d-xo.html Theres a lot of different ways to start your career but need to understand where you want to be in the industry!
Thank you for putting this out! Starting my career as an Analyst and your videos have been very informative. Would it be okay to reach out to you on other platforms for any questions?
Thank you for this informative video. I have subscribed to your channel. I too, am going through my first job as an ESG Consultant and trying to learn as much as I can about all the nuances in this field.
Hi Peter, great question. I would defer to this site to learn the basics of everything: www.wri.org/initiatives/greenhouse-gas-protocol Be warned, the technical documents though free to the public, are very technical, so take a bit longer to go through. I haven't seen too many free videos on this as a lot of certification programs are monetizing on this very niched information.
Both would yield the same results I'd say. A difference to consider though is an MBA is strictly focused on business with a touch of sci/poli whereas the enviro management masters is mostly focused on science with a touch of buz/poli.

What are the requirements to get a job in the sector? Do you think it will be possible for me to get a Job in this industry with a master in sustainable economics? Hi Brandon, the CFA ESG certificate is more geared toward the investing side of things. If you're wanting to eventually work more in the finance sector then this will become really important as you progress through your career.
Do you think a person with Social Sciences background can enter this industry? Currently, I work for a reporting consultant company but my job is limited only as a copywriter. I'd like to be part of the sustainability consultant team.
@@affanhasby822 hi there! It seems you already have your foot in the door. It might be a good idea for you to reach out to the sustainability consulting team and seeing if you can help them out with some of their projects!

I would suggest researching some nonprofits or consulting firms to see if they have internships. I feel like this is a better way to get a view on what goes on when not having too much experience
A very useful video! Thank you so much I would like to know are you working for a company as a full timer or as a freelancer? And what are the difficulties that you faced during your first job as a consultant?
Hi Ikram, I work as a full time worker with the thought of maybe transitioning to freelance/contractor later on in the future. The difficulties I had in consulting was doing the same tasks all the time and not being able to brand out as much as I wanted to!
ESG will fade to irreverence. Just like DEI all the jobs. ESG looks good on the surface, but when you look into how the scores are calculated that's where the BS comes in. The Environmental impact is what everyone focuses on the most and that's a good thing. But for Social, why does it have the categories it has, everything in Social has laws governing these areas save for the supply chain, assuming your business isn't critical to a country's security or a part of a gov contract. And WTF is "Social vulnerability". For Governance, there are laws to cover these things as well. Why does the Board of Directors diversity matter? It should be a meritocracy, select the best person for the job. There are laws for pay ratios and discrimination. There are laws for business ethics. Accounting practices, laws for that as well, and the Board controls exec pay.
Hi there, I am also trying to learn about sustainability (especially focus on reporting) myself, and I found that GHG protocol provides great trainings (some are free and some are also charged). I really recommend you to take a look with these trainings first before registering in any certifications/programs
