  • The importance of sugar in a cocktail really isn't understood as well as it should be. Sugar isn't just to make things sweet, it provides body and cuts the burn from the alcohol. But it comes in so many different varieties and it is very important to understand how to properly use Sugar in your cocktails so that they are properly balanced.
    This is part of an ongoing series on Cocktail basics. I am sharing my knowledge on how to make kickass cocktails in the hope that you too can make some kickass cocktails at home or wherever you make your drinks.
    So make sure you circle back and watch the first couple of episodes!

    Nice high quality video! What kind of cocktails do you use your fruit syrups in? I haven’t really heard of that! Also I noticed a couple times where some text came onto the screen that was maybe misplaced? It read “citrus juicer” and then “y peeler” that I didn’t really understand the context haha.

      thank you so much Ashley for such a thoughtful comment. i think the reason those words came up on screen is because this video i made as an intro series and the previous video i was speaking about bar tools and how to use them. i must not have thoroughly edited the prior effects out of this one.
      sorry about that! i was still a very new "TH-camr" back then!

    Sugar in the raw is a turbinado sugar tho. If you want a durminado syrup shouldn't you use that sugar or darker brown sugar?

  • @naicesmassun8442

    Do you add alcohol (vodka) to prolong the life of your syrups?

    • @Lui_Fern
      @Lui_Fern  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I tend to not use vodka in anything but you certainly could! I tend to use darker spirits or spirits that I know go well with that syrups taste. Such as Cognac in my Orgeat. Or you can go with a super high proof spirit like ever clear to make a tincture or something like that.
      I just don't like to use vodka when other spirits are available but I understand that's not the same for everyone. I believe using vodka is possible but I've never done it myself.
      Adding alcohol to your syrups does make them last a bit longer sometimes but if you do it to all of them it makes it really hard to balance your cocktails if you have alcohol in almost all your syrups. Especially in recipes that call for a few different syrups.
      And thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate it 😁 your feedback and question is much appreciated!
