Not entirely sure where the negativity is coming from in the comments. He isn't wrong. It is a good regular car for regular people who aren't car enthusiasts. Honda has stepped up their game and he is giving them credit for it...
+LUIS NAJERA I think it will. My last gen civic without the facelift has been with me 11 years. Engine running smooth. All still pretty and good. I put my trust in honda. I think it'll do well
Hey, all yall arrogant "enthusiasts" in the comment section: this is a car for normal people, deal with it. And kudos to Matt for delivering a review that relates to real world, thank you Matt.
Holy crap, The amount of salt in this comments section is crazy! Guys, Matt reviews cars. This is a car review. How does him reviewing a modern car and actually liking it somehow translate to him being a paid-off sellout? Look, The new Civics are genuinely good cars. My father just bought one. and No, it might not be a fun as my friends miata, or as enjoyable to work on as my project Subaru. But it really is one of the nicest modern cars I've been in and driven. This is Matt just sharing the truth about this car, Not being bought out like some cheap shill.
Matt you forgot to mention that this new civic is faster than the previous generation civic si. Hondata did a stock for stock test and the 10th gen base civic beat out the 9th gen si.
This is probably the first Civic I would personally buy, and this is coming from someone who is anything but a fan of Honda. The car is just nice (even my mother did the "that's a civic?" routine), but the peppy 175hp turbo motor is the cherry on top.
I find it hysterical that Honda finally makes a good product after years of stagnation and no one believes them. I hope this new Civic is a sign of good things yet to come.
I discovered this channel because I was researching the VW Golf R as my next purchase. I've been glued to the channel ever since - it's nice to see a mix of modded and stock cars. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for performing an honest car review. I'm a huge fan of this car and I get irritated when people can't see everything it has going for it. I'm impressed you're willing to review something that isn't stick and is in fact a cvt lol.
Thanks for actually delivering this review as it should have been, instead of trying to constantly compare and sound disappointed when it's not a "sports car". Are you going to review the Civic Si when it comes out? Please tell me you will! You should also review the Type R when it comes out to see if it's everything we've ever wanted.
+dragantoe correct, type R will be an extremely limited production run so expect high dealer markup and all mostly made to order, while the Si will be mainstream, stocked plentiful on the lots like how they have been all these years.
+ThatGuy Shane Some of the most adrenaline inducing roads I've ever driven were in the Finger Lakes region. If you go, don't just hoon them willy-nilly though. Lots of off-camber turns right after crests, so lots of people bite it out there. Get to know them and they will continue to try to tear your head off, but you'll be smiling the whole time.
Awesome review, thanks. For a very long time I've been a "car guy", thinking and researching sports cars (not yet driving them) but lately I've been thinking a lot about usable, comfortable, economic, affordable cars for just driving around, commuting and long range driving and this thing looks very impressive. Awesome
I'm glad you reviewed this I am contemplating buying one as my daily. I wasn't a fan of the past couple generations but this one seems to fit my needs, though I will be waiting for the hatch.
So many people mad because Matt reviewed the new Civic, But I like the one takes because I can see many different cars compared quickly. I am glad we got a one take for the Civic.
Seems like a genuinely decent car, and people forget press reviews are supposed to deliver feature info - it's always been understood between OEMs and journalists. Matt wasn't piling it on. I still like learning about new regular cars and this is way better than the tripe in MT/C&D nowadays.
Matt, have you ever had a crash or a near crash while doing a One Take? I'd assume maybe a few but you just took it out of the final edit. Tell us a story!
+ST3WB I've crashed twice in my life; both on race tracks, both in the rain. Never while doing a one take. Closest I ever came was the "log incident" with the Huracan. And even that wasn't that close.
TheSmokingTire mmm.. that's why there's a sports mode for better performance. I had to look up the manual: Drive (S): better acceleration., increased engine braking, going up or down hills.
+TheSmokingTire We have a Honda Fit with a airbag recall, so we have a base model civic as a rental, I wish it was the 1.5t lol. Swap the civic 1.5t inside a fit would be sweet!
mafia jimmy It was put there for hills and shit. Using L to drive fast makes the trans use lower gears/ratios than Sport. I'm not here to argue, i'm here to inform you. No offense, man.
I wouldn't mind seeing more one-takes with new(er) production cars, obviously as close to enthusiast as possible. I know R&T and C&D do this all day long, but I personally like your style and delivery, nice work!
Picked up an EX-T a couple weeks back and I'm an enthusiast. It's fantastic. Period. And he forgot to mention the lane keep assist. You can let this thing effectively drive itself above 45 mph and it works very well!
+TheSmokingTire A reference to a Southpark episode "Sponsored Content" in which ad companies circumvent ad blocking by masking the advertisement as 'normal content'. A good write up on the episode: mashable.com/2015/11/20/south-park-skewers-online-ads/#GoXjY_BkgGqo
I'm so naive, the smoking tire reviews modified cars and all of a sudden there's a completely stock civic and we're expected to not think he got paid. If we want stock car reviews we'll go to road and track or car and driver. We come to smoking tire for modified cars. Matt no disrespect I love the other videos.
+TheSmokingTire I have no plan on purchasing a Civic, but the overwhelmingly positive review speaks volumes about this car. Like you said of yourself in the video, we're all vehicle enthusiasts on this channel. And this car looks like the perfect vehicle for someone who doesn't want something fast, but wants all of the creature comforts of this decade. This car hits all of the high points of a family/commuter vehicle. Well done review Matt.
Thanks for the video. I appreciate it because once I analyze your review compared to the all the other reviews out there in existence in youtube...I can now see that your apparently modest review is actually an extremely great compliment to the Civic. Think about it guys, he's one of those hardcore car guys who like to get down and dirty with their manual transmission, revs and handling....and yet did he ever once actually talk trash or mention how disappointed he was with this car? Not even once. The guy literally gave this affordable, stylish, luxury and economy based car a "meh, not bad" rating for sportiness? Holy shit, what else could this fucking car need? No wonder this car is the best car of the year NA. It's not only the best of all worlds, it's THE best IN all of those worlds! (minus the pure sportiness ofcourse, which is why it's amazing that it's still good enough to not get a thumbs down by this hot blooded car guy) Ooooh man I want this car.
+RavTokomi The CR-Z has more problems than just the low powered hybrid powertrain. It's really not a light car considering it's a 2 seater... Handling is good but nothing special. Only thing the CR-z has going for it is looks.
+RavTokomi The Fit would be better... engine should be able to drop right in (same size) with minimal alterations to the body needed. Smaller and lighter dimensions than the Civic so much more tossable. Could easily be called the Fit Si
+SuperRobbie9001 I've done at least two MS3's and an MS6. I have also filmed but not aired a Mazdaspeed Miata. Unless someone presents a significantly different version of any of those cars, we've pretty much covered it.
Hi Matt, if the opportunity ever presents itself it would be interesting to get your thoughts on a 2016 CVT Accord Sport since it has similar power and the two cars are so close in size these days.
Going from an 06 Civic, to an 07 MK5 VW Golf .. surprised how much storage space I gave up lol. The center console, it feels like I went from Santa's sack to the pockets on Lil Wayne's skinny jeans. But for real, Civics have some lovely storage space.
Great video Matt, I hope you guys get to talk about this on an episode of the +TheSmokingTire podcast^^ Seems like some of the guys and whoever is the guest will have some interesting opinions about this car.
Hey Matt how fast did this Civic feel in comparison to the last gen's SI? Early reports are stating the 0-60 is faster in the new Civic's than the 9th gen SI's.
Matt how would this compare to the Mazda 3 in terms of driving dynamics? I presume the Corolla nor Nissan Sentra would really stack up in this category.
This is the only other automatic transmission compact I would consider to replace my daily-driver 2014 Mazda 3. I'm still leaning toward Fiesta ST though as I don't hit traffic too often and miss having three pedals. Matt, any insight into steering feel on the Civic vs. the Mazda, or other comparable attributes? Thanks!
Not entirely sure where the negativity is coming from in the comments. He isn't wrong. It is a good regular car for regular people who aren't car enthusiasts. Honda has stepped up their game and he is giving them credit for it...
+Rene “Kris” Hourian True. Hence why they have the 300+whp Type R version for car enthusiasts.
+Rene “Kris” Hourian The coupe will be manual btw
Don't understand why all the hate on Matt and Civic!? Seemed like a good neutral review of a very practical car. People needs to chill.
+ARMYTRIX NO
Yes
How many times did that bottle go in and out of that cupholder?!
Giggity.
+Rob Booth Automotive haha getting nifty with the product placements
+Nik Brudar Trying to get any grip in that afterwards is the huge fail...
A Fiji water advert....
+BTroxTV LOLOLOL! Quagmire, its Quagmire! Giggity Giggity Goo!!!
"Here we go... YES, well ya know, not really..." Haha that sums it up perfectly!
$27k for a fully loaded sedan that gets 40mpg and will last 15+ years sounds good to me.
that cvt its not lasting 15 years, you can believe that!
+LUIS NAJERA Come back in 15 years and we'll see.
+LUIS NAJERA I think it will. My last gen civic without the facelift has been with me 11 years. Engine running smooth. All still pretty and good. I put my trust in honda. I think it'll do well
+Ur Bud Spud i think the car its going to do good in 15 years. that cvt its not. but what would i know im just a mechanic.
+LUIS NAJERA Oh yeah you're a mechanic, where, Jiffy lube?
Hey, all yall arrogant "enthusiasts" in the comment section: this is a car for normal people, deal with it. And kudos to Matt for delivering a review that relates to real world, thank you Matt.
The most talkative TST One-Take guest award goes to...
Stock 2016 Civic Ecomony tires!
Holy crap, The amount of salt in this comments section is crazy!

Ah a new One Take a great way to start the morning.
agreed love them in the morn
"I'm not touching the pedals!" *raises hands*
lmfaooo!!!!
oh shit im DYIN
Bwhahaha I noticed that too. Automatic hands up! 🖐🏽
This test drive was by far the best I've seen on the new civic! Props
This is probably the first Civic I would personally buy, and this is coming from someone who is anything but a fan of Honda. The car is just nice (even my mother did the "that's a civic?" routine), but the peppy 175hp turbo motor is the cherry on top.
@ 4:11 man that view is amazing. The mountain in the background really gives it a good touch.
This Civic will win a lot of awards! just watch
Great to watch while eating lunch.
R u in Europe
I find it hysterical that Honda finally makes a good product after years of stagnation and no one believes them. I hope this new Civic is a sign of good things yet to come.

He's talking about TFL ha!
2:40 "Yes! Well, you know, not really" Lol
love that you keep doing reviews like this
Cant wait to see the Si version of this. I think it'll be pretty competetive
No more Si, mate. They're bringing in the civic Type R to the states.
+TrinityAmplify there's still going to be an Si for people who dont want to spend nearly $40k. It was delayed to 2017 however
+dragantoe correct, type R will be an extremely limited production run so expect high dealer markup and all mostly made to order, while the Si will be mainstream, stocked plentiful on the lots like how they have been all these years.
+dragantoe $40k?! My god..
i tried this, and dont get why id go for this over a VW or even the baseline audi or merc
+Daquan Jr. Any audi or merc you're getting for under $30k is going to be an embarassingly basic vehicle.
+Daquan Jr. I hate Hondas, but they are better value per dollar than a base model VW, Audi, or Merc. Sorry, but it's true.
+Chris Wittekind lmao!!
+Daquan Jr. I'm with you man, I'm sitting here wondering how much money Honda paid him for this shit.....
+TheSmokingTire Agreed, but a VW Jetta GLI or a Passat would be a hard vehicle to beat at those prices.
I test drove a turbo civic when they first hit the street. I was very impressed with the car and the power! It would surprise a lot of people...
I wish I lived in an area with beautiful roads like this! Always love your reviews.
we need open roads like these in newyork....
+ThatGuy Shane I recommend Bear Mountain area, as well as the roads off I-84 in between the Taconic and 684
+ThatGuy Shane if you go upstate, you're bound to come across mountain roads
+TheSmokingTire i know you are from CT name me some good roads around here
+ThatGuy Shane and we have them poughkeepsie albany
1:00 to 1:08, That's a pretty heavy bottle for you to try to raise 3 times, you need the 2 hands , perhaps a winch
Awesome review, thanks. For a very long time I've been a "car guy", thinking and researching sports cars (not yet driving them) but lately I've been thinking a lot about usable, comfortable, economic, affordable cars for just driving around, commuting and long range driving and this thing looks very impressive. Great video Matt, don't listen to people bitching. Just bought my wife one of these, you're right it is a fantastic car!
cant wait for the si & type r version
Maybe next year
+EK9GraphicDesign I was shocked to see the Type R beating the 2008 GTR, Ford GT,LP560, 997 991,991 911, etc
but that type r wont come to the US, another version will
Matt, you are driving like a mad man that is totally relaxed!
Where do you go for your drives? These roads are amazing. I have a Mercedes that I would love to just take a Sunday cruise on.
+David Haag this road is the Azusa Canyons, Highway 39 i believe
+oscar castillo how do you know for sure?
+David Haag I live in the city next to it and drive it occasionally, I recognize alot of the pull offs and the bridges he drives over
+David Haag I live in the city next to it and drive it occasionally, I recognize alot of the pull offs and the bridges he drives over
Awesome I see my civic sedan at the beginning! Can't wait to see the one take of it soon thanks.
Great review, I think you're actually the first to review this car just recently starting to see them on the streets
I'm glad you reviewed this I am contemplating buying one as my daily. I wasn't a fan of the past couple generations but this one seems to fit my needs, though I will be waiting for the hatch.
Great video ! It's nice to see it doesn't have to be a stoopid fast car every time.
So many people mad because Matt reviewed the new Civic, But I like the one takes because I can see many different cars compared quickly. I am glad we got a one take for the Civic.
"YES!!!... Well, not really"
Lol :D
Seems like a genuinely decent car, and people forget press reviews are supposed to deliver feature info - it's always been understood between OEMs and journalists. Matt wasn't piling it on. I still like learning about new regular cars and this is way better than the tripe in MT/C&D nowadays.
An automatic transmission civic... Wow, tickle me excited.
What were you bumping to that made the trunk rattle? I'd like to know what Matt listen's to.
+Kevin Nieves I listen to Tupac and Biggie
+TheSmokingTire no way lol
Matt, have you ever had a crash or a near crash while doing a One Take? I'd assume maybe a few but you just took it out of the final edit. Tell us a story!
+ST3WB go look at the supercharged huran one take.
+ST3WB I've crashed twice in my life; both on race tracks, both in the rain. Never while doing a one take. Closest I ever came was the "log incident" with the Huracan. And even that wasn't that close.
What a gorgeous road. Just a beautiful scenery
thank you matt, you are a good regular person
Just bought mine, couldn't be happier
I like the idea of an occasional sub-$35k car for a practical car review.
damn honda stepping up their design game... not a fan so much of the back, but the front looks so agressive
why did you put it in low??
So it stays higher in the power band for fast driving
TheSmokingTire mmm.. that's why there's a sports mode for better performance. I had to look up the manual: Drive (S): better acceleration., increased engine braking, going up or down hills.
+TheSmokingTire We have a Honda Fit with a airbag recall, so we have a base model civic as a rental, I wish it was the 1.5t lol. Swap the civic 1.5t inside a fit would be sweet!
its been proven going in low in this car is faster then sport.
mafia jimmy It was put there for hills and shit. Using L to drive fast makes the trans use lower gears/ratios than Sport. I'm not here to argue, i'm here to inform you. No offense, man.
I live in LA. First time i saw it on the road, i thought WFT is that? I want it for the wifey - now confirmed. thank you sir.
I wouldn't mind seeing more one-takes with new(er) production cars, obviously as close to enthusiast as possible. I know R&T and C&D do this all day long, but I personally like your style and delivery, nice work!
I like the regular cars in these. It's a nice change. Of course the modified cars are quiet entertaining, I really wanna see more FRS or BRZs haha
Picked up an EX-T a couple weeks back and I'm an enthusiast. It's fantastic. Period. And he forgot to mention the lane keep assist. You can let this thing effectively drive itself above 45 mph and it works very well!
Civics are known for their easy customisability, at least the pre 2010 versions. So they are(kinda) enthusiast-grade vehicles.
Matt.. e30 s54 please.. patience is not sitting well with me .
Manual with a tune to 200hp might be nice
+junnutube ILX?
+junnutube Type R version makes 300whp.
Oh no, it's begun. Advertisements masked as videos on one of my favorite channels
+Jim Wheaton How else would you like them to fund the channel and continue making videos? I personally hate merchandise and anything branded.
I don't get it? What advertisement masked as a video?
+TheSmokingTire People think Honda paid you to show this. Announce it in the video next time. Car enthusiasts can be dumb sometimes.
+Chris Sorreda EVERYONE can be dumb sometimes.
+TheSmokingTire

Car looks amazing.
great video Matt
how much did they pay you to show this car?
I don't get paid by manufacturers to feature vehicles. That's not how this business works at all.
You're so naive. You have no idea how the car review industry works.
+Chris Sorreda Perhaps he was being sarcastic due to the antithetical nature of this particular review subject.
I'm so naive, the smoking tire reviews modified cars and all of a sudden there's a completely stock civic and we're expected to not think he got paid. If we want stock car reviews we'll go to road and track or car and driver. We come to smoking tire for modified cars.

I must admit...I love the Civic. I have a 2015 for my kick around, but the 2016 looks amazing! VloggingAdventureswithRob
Nice. Very comprehensive review, better than autocar
(minus the pure sportiness ofcourse, which is why it's amazing that it's still good enough to not get a thumbs down by this hot blooded car guy) Ooooh man I want this car.
thx for turning the car on for us man i asked u to turn the car on for the interior look around and u accually listened
Can you do a one take of your Aston once the manual conversion is done?
If you ever come to the Palm Springs area check out highway 74 it's a nice road up the mountain side
At 2:47, I made that "really??" face lol. What power??
Good review, Matt. Kinda nice to see regular cars on this channel. Anyone knows why the Japanese still insist on CVTs?
Matt, I know you do a lot of sports cars, but could you get your hands on a 2016 Chevy Volt to review?
Passing on a double yellow. The kind of guy who never has an accident but causes hundreds
I got a big bottle of FiJI "shows engine" LMFAO.
Seems like a nice car
I like it and the make over is perfect...................
Put that 1.5T and a 6MT into an updated non-hybrid CR-Z and you would have a really fun little car.
+RavTokomi The CR-Z has more problems than just the low powered hybrid powertrain. It's really not a light car considering it's a 2 seater... Handling is good but nothing special. Only thing the CR-z has going for it is looks.

Great to see Honda back in form. I can't wait to see the SI and Type R
Any chance youre doing any mazdaspeeds for your one takes in the near future?
Pretty sure he's done two. Or at least one, I know for sure.
+SuperRobbie9001 I've done at least two MS3's and an MS6. I have also filmed but not aired a Mazdaspeed Miata. Unless someone presents a significantly different version of any of those cars, we've pretty much covered it.
I love this new Civic.
Matt, is that the Tudor Black Bay?
So with the new more powerful engine, the nice leather interior... Do you think an Acura ILX makes much sense?
Great video Matt! Enjoy seeing less exotic machines being driven hard down a canyon too 👍
Hi Matt, if the opportunity ever presents itself it would be interesting to get your thoughts on a 2016 CVT Accord Sport since it has similar power and the two cars are so close in size these days.
Hey Farah any shot you can test Dinan's new big turbo 328? It doesn't meet emissions out there so the odds are probably slim.....
hmm wondering if this gen civic will have an Si model.
Matt, which one do you prefer? The focus or the new civic?
Test drive the new accord sport, i wanna see what u think.
Going from an 06 Civic, to an 07 MK5 VW Golf .. surprised how much storage space I gave up lol. The center console, it feels like I went from Santa's sack to the pockets on Lil Wayne's skinny jeans. But for real, Civics have some lovely storage space.
If was in the market for a small sedan like this. This is what i would get. Honda did a great job with this car.
Is Honda even trying to keep the civic a compact or they moving toward a midsize, looks pretty big now
can i just ask a straight up question? is this car good?
Did this Civic have a million miles?
trying to choose this or a jetta GLI going to go test drive this on the weekend
When are you going to do a Mazda3 Sport video!?
Great video Matt, I hope you guys get to talk about this on an episode of the +TheSmokingTire podcast^^ Seems like some of the guys and whoever is the guest will have some interesting opinions about this car.
R34 in the background at the start?
Hey Matt how fast did this Civic feel in comparison to the last gen's SI? Early reports are stating the 0-60 is faster in the new Civic's than the 9th gen SI's.
+Robert Per They are about the same. You miss one gear an the CVT 1.5 gets the lead.
thoughts on Civic vs Impreza. Seems to be close to the same price for the fully loaded models.
+Dan Rau If you don't require AWD, the Civic is a much nicer place to spend your time.
Matt how would this compare to the Mazda 3 in terms of driving dynamics? I presume the Corolla nor Nissan Sentra would really stack up in this category.
"You can hear the tires screeching a little bit, but they're not losing grip, They're just telling me like what might happen if you keep pushing it."
are you going to review the R34 i seen in the beginning of this video in front of this car
Thanks!
