      It's mostly people who don't understand how games are made. For example i see comments from people thinking that just because UE5 has a system like Nanite that it now means devs can just dump in lots of assets with millions of polys and it's all just going to work. People like Bluedrake for example saying that just because some artists can create cool looking 3D models that now should enable them to make a metaverse. There's a slight difference between creating a game asset and coding a metaverse.

      @@justanothernobody7142 Yeah, it's the trap of the non-game developer discovering development tools.
      It's very misleading to look for videos on how to learn things in Unreal or Unity. They usually give the impression that 10 guys could create God of War in 6 months. I literally saw that in a video about a person creating God of War's axe mechanics. Or a person saying Star Citizen would be easy to create because he saw a guy making a procedural planet in UE4 in 40 min.

Ive watched graphics go from 8bit to the amazing stuff we see today using engines like Unreal 5. hahaha, fry in SC they're 'trying' to make an actual game and the tech needed. E2 and Atlas, in the other hand...
    I dont think it is accurate to put them in the same bag. As stated in the video, StarAtlas is trying to scam fans of space games like Elite, SC, Eve, because they saw there is money here. And everyone wants a next gen space game.
    And regarding the metaverse, I think we sometimes underestimate technology. I'd be very surprised if a metaverse doesn't appear in less than 30-40 years. I mean, if Facebook is currently devoting a lot of resources to it, as well as other relevant companies., Its not for the love of art or science.

    The problem with this rapid advance in engine tech that we've seen is that you can fake everything these days. The entire Anthem demo, as we now know, was fake - remember. That thing looked like a real game. So if you can raise 100K or something you can go to one of these CGI studios and they just build you whatever you want :O)
    And I can tell you exactly what they plan to do which is what literally every kickstarter out there has done: You build concept art with a fairly small team of designers and storytelling specialists. You collect cash from your community, you show the numbers of people excited about this game to investors. You get money from investors and only then you start hiring the people that actually build the game because this is very, very expensive. Look how long it takes to build one functional ship in Star Citizen and you know this is like 5 years from release...

    Unreal Engine 5 has truly next-gen graphics (lighting, textures) and sound, but it also has some flaws (animation rigging) - they would be better of doing this in UE4, unless they are willing to modify and expand UE5 themselves.
    The point I'm trying to make is that using UE5 does not AUTOMATICALLY make your game "better" than others.

    • @BoomerangBytesAus
      @BoomerangBytesAus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UE5 can render a large scale level without needing to make compromises & workarounds like level transitions. Definitely would need UE5 to do something like this. When UE5 is fully released & after a few updates it should be a viable option compared to the current state of UE5 Early Access.

    I’ll start by saying I totally agree with you on almost everything. One thing though: you say something like this wouldn’t be possible in our lifetime, one hundred percent, and possibly not even our children’s lifetime, yet rewind thirty five years and look at the games we were playing. Now look at, say, Red Dead Redemption Two and there’s no way back then we would have predicted how far games would have come.
    We were so far off, technologically, that we couldn’t/didn’t even imagine or envision it. Yet here we are. How can you be so certain - a hundred percent certain - that it’ll never happen in our lifetime? Particularly when you look at Moore’s Law and how quickly technology advances.
    It only takes one technological breakthrough or the discovery of a new material or a new property of a material to find the next era defining technology.
    Now I agree that this “game”, along with Earth 2 are ridiculous to be promising people and selling because the tech literally doesn’t exist yet so it’s a scam, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s impossible in our lifetime.

    Playable demos go a long ass way. I remember a playable demo more than I remember the idea of a game. At least Chris Roberts had the sense to show the audience work that's publicly available. It is never nice to see how the sausage is made. It also shows how much time this actually requires and how bad he is at estimating any of it but I can give CIG credit for a *level* of transparency.
    Earth2, Star Atlas and all these crypto metaverse kinda "games" sell the content off but don't present any playable or properly consumable thing, rendering all their assets to be worthless to the mass market. I can buy itchy and scratchy dollars and buy whatever is worth it but that doesn't equal being universally accepted and it doesn't seem like moon boiz get that.

    • @Armoredcompany
      @Armoredcompany 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's my whole take on crowd-funded games. CIG did it right in my opinion. They gave you something playable as soon as they had it available and have been updating with new content as they can. They also publicly ADMITTED that they bit off way more than they could chew and that the game had morphed into this giant unwieldy monster. Too few Devs these days are willing to admit mistakes, instead they just pull a Call of Duty or Battlefield and rush the next installment out the door in an attempt to cover up the previous failure and bury it beneath the newest one. It's the reason that I keep coming back to play SC every once in a while whereas I haven't touched Warzone in over a year and never will and wont ever play a game of Hazardzone.

I think Roberts has wasted a lot of the money for that game and is now trying to claw it back through the SC alpha. I hate to think how much it cost for all those actors. The tech isn't really going to be the problem IMO. I don't think we are going to have to wait 50+ years for it. The problem is whether or not it's going to be profitable enough for the time and money that needs to be invested to create a huge open universe or metaverse. We've already seen how much time and money has been sunk into SC and look how far that's progressed. The only companies that even have a chance of creating something like this are huge corporations like Epic, Facebook, Tencent etc. None of these two bit studios have a hope in hell of ever achieving it, and even if they could it would take them so long that one of these big companies will just do it better and faster than them. These are nothing but hype generating pump and dump schemes.

    • @Apav1x
      @Apav1x 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be honest though I doubt those mega corporations are sincerely working on metaverses either. Why spend way more money and time developing such a technologically challenging game when they can just pump out cheap mobile games that will net them much larger profits? Competition is the only reason, but until such a game exists there is no competition.
      We won't see such a game from a mega corporation or a triple A studio until advancing technology makes it easier to accomplish and thus financially feasible for them to do so. I think we're still decades off from that.

    • @justanothernobody7142
      @justanothernobody7142 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Apav1x Well Facebook, I mean "Meta" are now working on it. The paradox about a metaverse is that the companies capable of doing it are also exactly the companies that people don't want involved. Imagine if Facebook had built the internet for example. We need a metaverse to form organically over time with no one company in control, just like how the internet formed.

    closest we've got to an MMORPG that has full planets you can travel to, get out of your ship and walk around are games like Empyrion. Issue is, that's not technically an mmo and is private server dependent. Although, some of the servers I've seen in Empyrion are very interesting for certain. What makes no sense to me is that these companies come out of nowhere touting the greatest game to ever exist, yet the biggest companies out there with thousands of employees haven't even come close to 1% of what these nobodies are promising.... and people fork over thousands of dollars to them. These big companies like Ubisoft have time and time again burned customers by showing gameplay trailers at E3 that misrepresented the final product or promise features that don't end up in the game, and people get upset. But these "games" come out of nowhere, no history of past games, no repertoire with the gaming industry. They release literally just a trailer and the store for their game first, and people fork over thousands of dollars. What if Activision did the same with Call of Duty? They release the store before they even have a gameplay trailer for their next game. You can buy and sell skins for guns that you can't even use yet. You don't even know if it's an FPS it could be a card game for all you know. People would look at them like they lost their marbles. But these nobody companies can just whip up a flashy cinematic trailer and people are tripping over each other to defend its "potential". Have we learned nothing? People see the chance to earn real life money and all logic and reasoning goes out the window. It has to be legit, because they said the word "cryptocurrency"
