  • This is called as Hbot mechanism.
    Hbot = H-shaped robot.
    Linear motions of orange object along X and Y axes are controlled by pink and green driving pulleys.
    One branch of the black timing belt is fixed to the orange block, the other branch goes through it.
    When pink and green pulleys rotate in opposite directions at the same velocity, the object moves along X axis.
    When pink and green pulleys rotate in the same direction at the same velocity, the object moves along Y axis.
    The green line is trajectory of a point on the object.
    The mechanism can be used for 3D printers.
    When the pink pulley turns P deg. clockwise (the green one is immobile) the orange object displacements are:
    Along X axis: ΔXp = - Pi.D.P/720
    Along Y axis: ΔYp = - Pi.D.P/360
    When the green pulley turns G deg. clockwise (the pink one is immobile) the orange object displacements are:
    Along X axis: ΔXg = Pi.D.G/720
    Along Y axis: ΔYg = - Pi.D.G/360
    Pi = 3.1416
    D: pulley diameter.
    Programming driving pulley motion to get desired trajectory of the orange object is not easy.

    Hi!
    How do you control the angle of the diagonal movement?
    Only turning 1 motor does a 45 degree movement, but how do you get this , say 55 degree angle?

      Please read the video description.
      When pink pulley turns P deg. and green pulley turns G deg.
      the orange object moves:
      In X direction:
      ΔX = (G-P)Pi.D/720
      In Y direction:
      ΔY = -(G+P)Pi.D/360
      ΔY/ ΔX = tan(A)
      A: angle of desired oblique trajectory of the orange object.
      Solve these 3 equations to get P/G relation giving desired trajectory of the orange object.

    Great animation of a mechanical concept - you have a good ability to visually present technical information! I've read through the comments, but still have a question on something that was addressed in one of the comments, but is still unclear in my mind. My question is whether the black timing belt is fastened to the orange block at 2 points, or 4 points on the block. I think the top part of the timing belt passes through the orange block, and the bottom part of the timing belt is clamped at either side of the orange block for this to work. Is this correct?

      Yes. One branch of the black timing belt is fixed to the orange block, the other branch goes through it.

    0:05 Something is seriously wrong with this concept/animation. It breaks the laws of physics.
    How is it possible for the orange peace to move left/right on the blue axis?
    The belts would need to get longer/shorter.
    0:05 Look at the 2 top-left gears.
    They work against each other. And the belt on the left side magically gets longer.
    It can't work that way.

      The belt is attached to the orange block at only two points, not all 4 as the visual would make you think. The two lower points are attached while the two upper points are actually the belt passing through the block.

      At 0:05 look at the two yellow wheels top left. They work against each other on one belt.

    What is it with your equations? Turning one pulley moves the chart exactly the same amount along x & y (dx = ½*r*angle_rad).

      CoreXY animation is under construction.
      All videos in my channel are made in Autodesk Inventor.

      This is not a core XY. For this design the belt is 4X+2Y long. For a coreXY there are 2 belts, each 2X+2Y long. This uses fewer parts but is more accurate.

      The orange object has upper plate. Two branches of the black closed belt are clamped between the base and the upper plate of the orange object by two hexagon screws

      The video is false. It does not work like that.
      Also visible at for example 0:05, if you look at the 2 gears on the top-right, which work against each other.

    Excuse me sir, we have a prototype that uses the h belt mechanism. When turning only one motor the point doesn't make a 45° movement and one of the linear bearing is stuck, what is the appropriate solution onto this matter?

      My simulation shows that 45 deg. motion.

      At the orange block, the furthest part of the belt must pass through (or around) freely. The other part of the belt is fixed. Two of the yellow pulleys also turn the wrong direction in the animation.

      Yes. Using double sided timing belts is a good solution.

    Would this be usable as an XY-table for a cnc milling machine? Maybe with a chain drive instead of a belt?

      I don't think so. Chain drive can not give precise motion for milling machine table.

      I've seen some CNC routers with pretty good precision that use timing belts.

    If I wanted to mount this on a wall, how would I do that without the motors getting in the way? What kinda of motors should I use? And can I program the, with arduino?

      Use step or servo motors.
      I don't know how to control the motors. Ask electric engineers.

      Yes, one belt.
      If the inner wheels turn the object will move along Y-axis.

      Step motors are attached to green and pink pulleys. Their rotations are programmed.

      I think AutoCAD does not support the simulation.
      You have to use other softwares.
