And because of another reason too. Water stands for life, death, and relationships, here we can see that water is completely transparent, so this means that their relationship is pure. On the other hand, in the scene where Robbie rescues Briony, water is muddy, so we can imagine what it means😅 but this is from my point of view as a reader, you are right too though, and yours is a beautiful interpretation😊
After watching this video I thought it was going to be a sweet lovely romantic movie... And then everything started going wrong. Damn wrong. Damn freaking wrong.
+AlexanderXIX I cried ㅠㅠ I watched it last night and still, I wish it would be happy ending as the novel that Briony wrote. But sadly the fact is they both died. and it made me cry. it's all because of stupid Briony!
I would like to thank whoever his hairstylist and makeup artists were because they did a mind blowing job at somehow making the already attractive James mcavoy even more goods looking
everything about this scene/ movie is just absolutely breathtaking, the glowing beams of dreamlike sunlight, the parallel structure and camera angles, the outfits, the transitions, the subtle hints at a former relationship (e.g she stares him right in the face as she removes her garments and he almost forgets to turn away) the innocence of two beautiful lovers, james, mcavoy
While promoting Speak No Evil, James said that in the library scene, he and Keira kiss for the first time and it shouldn't really work because both their characters are almost like brother and sister but then they try again and their tongues touch and suddenly something clicks and it's like they're both signing a contract for the rest of their lives. The fountain scene really is that moment where they get extremely close to that shift that will change them for good. They dare each other to do it while not daring to themselves.
The thing about this film is that it's shot almost like a dream. Everything just seems to "glow" and perhaps, I'd like to think, it was intentional, knowing that at the end, it's because it's telling their story. It's made to draw you in and well, rip you apart at the end, I suppose. Very beautifully written and acted--the cinematography was impecable--the costume design--the score--all of it. Grandiose...
Crivens, that runaway laugh he gives at 0:22 ... that truly is adorable. That, and the other laugh at 0:17. I wonder if those were scripted, or was it James McAvoy breaking character in the scene and they decided to leave them in because it made him seem so charming and endearing?
snipergirl21 James said that Robbie was just too perfect.I think Robbie laughed to make cecilia relax and he smiled bc he's really really adorable.he's kind from botom of the heart.
Funny how people are hating on how keira is skinny, but then when people are hating fat people it is: WHAT NOOOOOO Keira is gorgeous, talented and has worked with the best actorss!! get over it And james is hawt!!
Her figure is that of a healthy young woman. People naturally gain an average of 10 pounds every 10 years of additional life because of slowing metabolism. Look it up. Its perfectly healthy for a woman as young as Kiera is in this movie to be slender.
His eyes are as blue as his shirt but what really floors me is how simple yet intense and powerful his acting can be.Everyone did a wonderful job in this movie #McAvoyers #PiercingBlueGaze #Atonement
5 years back i saw this movie for the first time and that's when i fell in love with James Macvoy. He is not that text book 6 feet guy with more bulk on him than a turkey, but those intense eyes can make any girl weak on her knees.
This is so unbelievably sensual Hell, the whole film was sensual. it feels so REAL, back when love was so passionate and authentic Scenes like these transport me to a completely different place
It’s movies like this that really stick with you. And the characters have so much depth that when the movie is over or a character dies it’s like losing someone you know. Truly an iconic movie!
I can feel the sexual tension between them. This scene excites me a lot and truly makes me want to fall in love, probably my favourite part of the movie. OH NO wait maybe not. Such a beautiful romance movie, I cried all the time while watching it :( and when I'll heal from the wounds it caused me I'll watch it again
Just the way he looks at her, than he turns his face the moment she looks away says everything. ❤ They both are in love with each other. She keeps her eyes on him the entire time she's dressing. He's gripping tightly, and feels her eyes on him. Not one word was spoken but you feel the tension between them. But his laugh is so adorable. "Not anymore it isn't." 1:11 ❤❤
I once heard in an interview that sometimes the most effective acting comes from holding back rather than letting go. I think that is also true in the case of trying not to look at someone rather than just letting yourself stare at them.
I love how my brothers, & sisters in humanity, commented on this clip here. They've expressed what I felt long ago about this scene. Oh merciful God. It melts me every time I watch it. Even after so many times of thinking that I will never feel this fever of love again.
I happened to stumble upon this while watching Pride and Prejudice clips, and I instantly was enraptured. Little did I know the rest of the story and the true context of it all. But I look back and think about my first time watching this, and when I discovered the ending I was doused with ice water😂🥺 Still, I absolutely love this movie, despite the pain and heartache I’m left with in the aftermath.
I still don’t understand why this man hasn’t gotten an Oscar yet 😩 and she’s just so talented and gorgeous! I love her in all the movies the has done. Especially Becoming Jane 😭💖
3 comments are missing His beautiful laugh when she calls him idiot! the way he looked at her when she undresses her clothes and the way he looked again when she jumped off the water . 3 words summarizes it: My Favourite scene♥
I just don't understand it for the life of me... this man's simplest look can also be his most intense (and sexiest) look at the sometime....darn him lol!
that is the deepest fountain I have ever seen!
just when i think humanity is lost, a comment like that brings us back from the brink
Pink Elephants which one..? :D
Ikr
Apparently, in the book it was a pond.
It's the cleanest one inside I have seen!!
The way he touches the water because it was touched by her. Just poetic.
And because of another reason too. Water stands for life, death, and relationships, here we can see that water is completely transparent, so this means that their relationship is pure. On the other hand, in the scene where Robbie rescues Briony, water is muddy, so we can imagine what it means😅 but this is from my point of view as a reader, you are right too though, and yours is a beautiful interpretation😊
in the book, the purported reason was "to quell" the water. interesting?
I feel like man in real life dont have the thought process to do something like that.
Joana Santos wish men were really that romantic
I feel very sorry on how many women think that men are numbness. Especially when we suffer about you.
they're not even touching or looking directly at each other and it's the most sexual scene ever
scrainbow1234 well but that is a see through dress
@Luxe Lady That scene is more passionate than sexual, though.
*sensual
the sexual tension is no joke
Prolly because it’s the passionate frustration as the two can’t truly open up to each other due to societal expectations and poshos demands
Keira is so photogenic and cinematic, she is made for film
Truly she is! Her acting skills are wonderful too. Love that she has done so many period films
I seriously thought this was Natalie portman
Rightly said!!
She is absolute beauty inside out.
@JJ M I was talking about looks
This comment is so ic, it is made for TH-cam
That is a deep-ass fountain.
It was a pond in the book!
ZoyBeans it is beautiful though isn't it.on a hot summer day
that is exactly what I said to myself when she went down
Normal fountains aren't so deep I use to fish out little toys and coins when I was little 😂
He's too gorgeous. Those eyes render me useless.
1:07. You can hear all the ovaries detonating.
hahaa too funny
Stannis The Mannis i had paused at the exact same minute to admire his beauty, before reading your comment 😂
She*
It's like he's literally shining
daaaaaaaammmnn that tension! the way he was clenching his hand...just daamn
This comment section is aggressively passionate.
It's hard not to be, what with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy both looking ready to freaking nail someone
The way he touches the object while she's getting dressed...
I know right. So freaking sexual.
I noticed that too phew
fucKKKKK
Haha I thought he was break it again
I just realized that object kind of looks like the full anatomy of the clitoris
He looks innocent. His eyes his hair AND HIS FACE IS SO GORGEOUS AND HANDSOME. OH MY EFFIN GOD I CANT TAKE THIS!!!!!! :((((((((
And then they're doing not so innocent acts in the library. Aesthetically pleasing that is how each of them lost their stuff before impending doom
He looks gorgeous here
So are you
@@anantambisht4895damn
After watching this video I thought it was going to be a sweet lovely romantic movie...
And then everything started going wrong. Damn wrong. Damn freaking wrong.
+Ad Astra :'( i know, right? i fuckin know :''''''''((((((
jajajaja the same

Sophie Jaejoong uhm, ehm.. no. not at all. this movie gets to you and leave you with an emptiness for hours, maybe days u.u
+AlexanderXIX I cried ㅠㅠ I watched it last night and still, I wish it would be happy ending as the novel that Briony wrote. But sadly the fact is they both died. and it made me cry. it's all because of stupid Briony!
He's so perfect OMG...

Kry Kry I see you’ve never been to asian then
I would like to thank whoever his hairstylist and makeup artists were because they did a mind blowing job at somehow making the already attractive James mcavoy even more goods looking
Emma long name Ikr he’s so damn good looking in this movie it’s distracting.. especially those eyes 😍
Aaaant this is how I fell in love with James McAvoy. This movie and The last king of Scotland.
NARNIA IS WHERE HE WON ME OVER.
Stan talent stan P101's Jung Sewoon i feel exactly the same! he is so fine in those movies!
You should try "Rory O'Shea was here", my favorite.
I don't know which movie made me fall for James (Becoming Jane or this one, Atonement), but he did CATCH my eye since The Chronicles of Narnia. Sigh💓
Sewoon is life and Ongniel is science Penelope was where I fell for him 💕
it's something when he touches the water, is love
everything about this scene/ movie is just absolutely breathtaking, the glowing beams of dreamlike sunlight, the parallel structure and camera angles, the outfits, the transitions, the subtle hints at a former relationship (e.g she stares him right in the face as she removes her garments and he almost forgets to turn away) the innocence of two beautiful lovers, james, mcavoy

James’ acting in this scene is sublime. A relatively simple scene, and yet he adds little nuances that make it remarkable.
The sexual tension is plainly beautiful
I feel like I just experienced something spiritual. The romantic tension... yikes.
+slaggeylindsay It was more like sexual tension really...*note how he rubs the broken piece of the teapot at 1:29-but I see what you mean.
🤣
When he touches the water.......... !!!!!!

Love this scene. The innocence of it all :)
him touching the water was more alluring than her getting out of the water! felt like he was touching her without touching her!!
who tf builds a 10 ft deep fountain
Christina Huang Well they had to have some excuse to get her conpletely wet didnt they..😆
I would do it😅
@Pareidolia what? She's standing on the edge

Fountain is really deep
He looks like a freaking angel...I'm speechless.
Love the cinematography of this film, how everything seems to glow.
When I have a daughter I will tell her : "find a guy who looks at you the way James looks at Keira at 1:08"
YEAH
Just don't call your daughter Briony!
That's not the best heuristic for future financial stability.
Find a guy who looks like James McAvoy
Hopefully she will not be wet,😅
1:06 the way he BREATHES omg
He's just too cute in this movie,God I love him.
I love when he puts the hand on the water
He has the most gorgeous intense blue eyes in the world!
why are all the people here putting her down ? she is beautiful. they both are good looking people and they did a good job in this movie.
Funny how people are hating on how keira is skinny, but then when people are hating fat people it is: WHAT NOOOOOO
Keira is gorgeous, talented and has worked with the best actorss!! get over it
And james is hawt!!
totally agree
nerdwithapurpose yeah i have seen comments
Their are different degrees, yes it's hate but it is very different hate
She normal and healthy lol. Not skinny.
Her figure is that of a healthy young woman. People naturally gain an average of 10 pounds every 10 years of additional life because of slowing metabolism. Look it up. Its perfectly healthy for a woman as young as Kiera is in this movie to be slender.
i loved the way he didnt avert his eyes. immediately.
I CANT EVEN
ahahaha :D
I can tell😅
His eyes are as blue as his shirt but what really floors me is how simple yet intense and powerful his acting can be.Everyone did a wonderful job in this movie #McAvoyers #PiercingBlueGaze #Atonement
The tension in this scene is as deep as that freaking fountain... 😂
😂
WARNING: Immersion in a stagnant pool like that risks a deadly bacterial infection. That's how David Niven nearly died filming The Guns of Navarone.
We'll go back to 1935 and warn them.
Oh God his laugh..
After seeing that look in his face, I don't know what to do with my life anymore!
5 years back i saw this movie for the first time and that's when i fell in love with James Macvoy. He is not that text book 6 feet guy with more bulk on him than a turkey, but those intense eyes can make any girl weak on her knees.
When I saw this movie I couldn't believe this handsome man and the goat man from Narnia were the same person! 😱😱
The way he laughs at 0:15 when she says "You idiot"....
god i literally watch this scene weekly he's the IDEAL man makes my heart flutter lmao
This is so unbelievably sensual
Hell, the whole film was sensual.
it feels so REAL, back when love was so passionate and authentic

Keira in this scene in the fountain water foreshadows the end of this movie
This is very smart. I didn't realize this.
Ahhh, yes!!!
Ah, the care and love in that "Careful!" How can you not love Robbie(or James)?
the way he clenches his fist at 1:34 does things to me
I can feel the sexual tension between them.
This scene excites me a lot and truly makes me want to fall in love, probably my favourite part of the movie. OH NO wait maybe not. Such a beautiful romance movie, I cried all the time while watching it :( and when I'll heal from the wounds it caused me I'll watch it again
this is exactly how i feel. I want to watch it over and over again but it's so sad that i can't
I love this scene! The way he clenches his hand is so sexy to me, which is strange I know, but it's like he's fighting for control.... awesome
I love the fountain scene..
i fell in love with the lighting in this movie
One of the best movies ever, so touching and thought provokative. James's acting is brilliant, breathtaking, love him so much!
that lip licking at 1:55 is just everything
Can I have him?
youre fucking disgusting
absolutely disgusting...im curious has that line actually worked on women?
lol that actually made me laugh
but im still not even remotely interested
lol nice try, but no
Wow, this is all super romantic. I feel like I'm watching When Harry Met Sally.
Just the way he looks at her, than he turns his face the moment she looks away says everything. ❤ They both are in love with each other. She keeps her eyes on him the entire time she's dressing. The shot of his fist reminded me so much of pride and prejudice when darcy and her first touch!! She’s amazing in both movies!!!
This movie made me cry and ponder so much. How one lie can ruin lives forever.
He really is truly handsome
such an underrated, beautiful movie. acting is incredible.
his eyes are so intense
I love James! :') and wow. I could swim in that deep of a fountain. .
This movie was so sad but so beautiful like this movie is something to remember in early middle school.
Joe Wright loves them hand shots. They say so much. SO MUCH TENSION. And it feels so simple, but it's SO HEAVY
The way he looks at her when she pops out of the water... :)
1:07 the amount of beauty my heart can't handle.
This is easily one of the most romantic scenes in film
Oh my gad. Why is James here so so so just handsome! God! 😍
wow.. It's just the unsaid words.. the tension between them, I love this scene
The wardrobe is sublime, gooood job costume designer ❤️❤️
I just don't understand it for the life of me... this man's simplest look can also be his most intense (and sexiest) look at the sometime....darn him lol!
That is a deep fucking fountain
This is a wonderfull scene and a wonderfull movie.
"You realize that's probably the most valuable thing we own!"
"Not anymore it isn't."
SAVAGE
Comeback here after saw The Glass, james's a really good actor
That fountain is deep because it represents how thirsty they both are for each other 😉
Heaven have mercy on my soul. Keira Knightley is so good to look at.
She's wonderful...No words
That house wtf 😍
I've always wanted to just rip my clothes off and jump in a fountain just like in that scene!
They left me breathless
His laugh.. omfg, he's so perfect!
😍😭😭😭😍This movie moves me so much, its one of those films I can't just pop in and watch, I have to literally prepare for heartache and tears.
Damn this scene is so beautiful/sexy.
