    Excellent video! I just purchased a 2025 model Y and stumbled upon the Hansshow frunk kit. I'm very mechanically inclined and wanted to see how easy this kit would be to install. Your video confirmed it's possible for most people to install. It also had VERY good tips on what not to do, as I typically ignore instructions if they are hard to decipher and sometimes make a mistake that requires a 2nd attempt. I'm definitely going to purchase this kit. Thanks for the video!

    I installed it yesterday, it only took an hour to get to the first test, but it was another hour and a half to figure out where/how to mount the control module and motor and get the wiring all secured as neatly as possible. It never occurred to me during the first test that the hood might not come back up and what to do if it didn't! Fortunately I had watched multiple install videos over the course of a week while waiting for my unit to arrive, which showed two different ways to release and re-secure the spring, so that was a mistake I didn't make. Glad you got yours back up! Incidentally, a broom handle made for the perfect hood prop and fit into recesses in the hood and rad support so that it couldn't shift or fall while I was depending on it. I also swapped the struts one at a time so it was always half supported, and didn't put much weight on the prop to begin with.

    Glad to be able to see the install done. Thanks Jim. It is up there on the awesomeness scale, but at $600 it's only about 30% there on the "worth it" scale for me. There's gotta be about a 400% markup on production costs there!

    • @iowatesla
      @iowatesla  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. The awesomeness/hardness scale needs to include value. I haven’t even opened my frunk in months. I guess if you use yours everyday or multiple times a day then this may be for you. Not sure why tesla doesn’t include this oem.

    Thanks for the video, some very good tips. I did this job a couple of days ago and found it very difficult, so for me it would fail the test. I found releasing the struts and installing the new ones was the most difficult part due to lack of space and light. You made that section seem too easy. I also accidentally undid the other end of the spring without noticing at first, must be a common mistake. Fortunately I noticed quite quickly and referred to the pictures to relocate it. You didn’t seem to disconnect the power before connecting to the positive I’m not sure that’s a good idea. Also not sure about your placement of the control module, I prefer back up under the wiper cowl, out of the way of the filter, nice and dry and good space.
    Yes it’s a great feature but looking back I should have paid an experienced person to install it. Including that extra cost it may not be worthwhile. Glad it’s done and behind me.

    You should check if your HEPA filter assembly is making a good seal on the inlet plenum. I installed this kit last night and I placed the auto-frunk controller in the same spot. The issue is that it lifts the HEPA assembly by about 1/8 of an inch on the driver side. It’s enough to keep the white seal from contacting the air inlet.Needless to say, this will be a huge issue in the long run.

    • @KevinT3141
      @KevinT3141 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ugh, I'm reading this now. My module was placed a bit differently and a little lower, so hopefully I'm good. We had a lot of rain in the days before, and there was a significant puddle in the plenum under the filter (which we drained), so from the factory that seal was already probably not the best. Maybe we improved it?

    I would totally do this, but my husband probably wouldn't let me! (We share the car- it is our only car by choice) My husband is not nearly as handy as I am, so he wouldn't even attempt it. Still watched the whole video though. Thanks for your contribution to the community!

    Thanks for the video! Can you confirm the button inside the frunk is disabled when not in park? Wouldn’t want groceries or an item to hit the button and open frunk while driving.

    • @iowatesla
      @iowatesla  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The button is factory and there as a way to get out of the frunk if you happen to be small enough to be shut inside. This button doesn't do anything to the factor setup. I don't know how I would test this but I would bet that it wouldn't do anything in drive.

    • @coby7831
      @coby7831 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is inactive when in drive or reverse or neutral. Put your Y in drive and try opening the frunk, it won't happen, it is interlocked via software.

    This was one of the best videos for this installation. I just installed the same kit and the instructions suck.
    S try calling someone to ask a question. Forget it they are only interested in selling product. I had an orange cable and a small cable and two small screws left over ….. any idea what they are for….. I sent an email to ask but got no response…… also in the instructions it said to watch the video …what video

    I have sadly encounter a few issues during installation as some of you have as well and warranty issues after the installation and using the frunk for s few months. Hansshow does not back up their product and when it failed me (after months of usage), the frunk would not open and I had to take it to Tesla and incur additional charges to have them open the frunk for me.
    Tesla removed all the aftermarket parts from hansshow I connected back all the original ones and the frunk started working properly again... Hope this helps save someone else from the headaches and the expenses...

    An additional tip. Take photo's before disassembling anything. You can reference them afterwards should you need to return to the OEM install and they may help with things like spring placement. Not having the wiring locations documented is appalling. Who the heck checked this product out before final sign off? I would n't buy it knowing this on the basis of what other unknowns might be lurking in it. If the can't bother with wiring detail what state is the firmware in the control box in? Would I really want to connect that to the car's CAN Bus.

    I like your video and I want to install this; but, I am concerned about all the negative reviews I have seen for Hansshow products in general and this product in particular. I would appreciate it if you would give periodic updates as to how the product holds up. Another TH-camr had his frunk structs fail after about 2 months of use.

    What’s the solution when the 12V battery requires a jump start? A23 battery applied to unlocked vehicle still open the frunk?

    • @iowatesla
      @iowatesla  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the battery would still work. This doesn’t defeat the stock system. Just automated the up and down. Need to check that.
