    I haven't purchased this kit as Im still waiting to pick up my model Y later this week but I wanted to see a tutorial on how to install these powered frunks and let me tell you, you do an amazing job at explaining things. I wish more people explained things the way you do. no annoying music or bad angles. Great job sir!

    Have to agree with the rest of the posters. This is the BEST tutorial on this. Great work. I have the power frunk for mine, but have been waiting to install it as I was unsure about a few things but your video explains and shows everything very clearly. Thank-you

    Adding another BEST one comment. There are very few good tutorials or instructions for this kit. I searched far and wide finding this one is the shiznit for clarity and conciseness. Also loved the extra bonus showing the clever methods used to get some of the difficult shots.

    I have to agree...the BEST video on installing this product! I've watched many of them and your ability to capture the close ups of the strut connections is awesome! I already have the product, I just need the car, LOL. BTW, I got the blue MY so I really like your video just for that reason :).

    after watching this video, I think I can confidently install it properly. Im a little cautious because Some owners who installed the power frunk had their frunk opened while driving. I wonder what caused that.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s definitely scary but I don’t know how it could happen. It uses the factory latch and the factory sensor so it wouldn’t let them drive it wasn’t latched. And it wouldn’t let them unlatch it if they were in drive.

    Great installation. I installed mine a week ago. I think you have an issue about open/close procedure. It is not smooth… do you have fix it? And i think the bolt you have to put behind the spring is to big… you see the oem contactor and I think you risk to break it with such a big anchor…

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  ปีที่แล้ว

      It may not close smoothly, but it’s working as expected for an aftermarket adaptation. Still working great on my Model Y.

    • @handydadtv

      I have an app called STATS. It’s not free, but it has no monthly fee. It does Siri integration for me. I can say “open the frunk”, for example, but from my Apple Watch and the frunk opens.
      Not sure if the Tesla app does this.

    Great Job. Does unit create a ghost load and prevent the car from going to sleep ? My wife just picked her Model X and the frunk worried her.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a trickle load for the control unit. Doesn’t affect my car sleeping.

    • @njdegen
      @njdegen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@handydadtv can you elaborate on this?

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Tom - The control unit is connected directly to the 12V battery so I assume it’s drawing a tiny amount of power even if the car is sleeping. But it doesn’t prevent the car from sleeping.

    Does this void any kind of warranty from Tesla??

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I don't personally know, I have heard Tesla is a stickler about making changes or working on your own vehicle. Again, that's just what I heard.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Certainly I wouldn’t be able to make a warranty claim for the hood latch mechanism that I modified. But it wouldn’t void the whole car warranty.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I won’t do that one. There’s a risk that it can open accidentally in a car wash unless you remember to turn on the hazard lights. I don’t need it that bad.

    How is it powered with the recent change to 12v lithium batteries now?

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  ปีที่แล้ว

      Same way, although there is no elegant way to attach the wire. It just wraps around the positive connector. Not ideal, but it works.

    • @Smegheadi
      @Smegheadi ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a couple of ways to attach to the positive stud of the lithium battery. One is to unscrew the stud a little and slide the kit positive terminal under the base. The other is to attach the terminal using the nut supplied in most (all?) current kits.
