    People ask a lot where they can get this ammo, and while I cannot direct you to the exact ammo, more or less Buffalo Bore item 19H is this exact ammo. Corbon uses the DPX moniker for their load using the Barnes XPB bullet, which is the same bullet Buffalo Bore uses in their item 19H. The Buffalo Bore 19H is rated at 1,383 FPS in a 4" S&W and 1,235 FPS in a 2.5" S&W, as where here with the Corbon DPX I got 1,388 FPS in the 4" and 1,225 in the 2" so we know the powder composition is similar if not the same. It is currently available directly from Buffalo Bore.

      Thanks for posting this note. I've not been able to find the Corbon. I do have some BB 19H. In the M&P340, recoil is still quite stout. However, it is not as nasty as the Remington HTP 125gr 357 Magnum load. My personal take on the 19H is that I can run six rounds before bruising gets too bad. I did that test with VZ G10 grips. I've since installed the CTC LG-405 grips which have some rubber padding on the back strap. I haven't repeated the test with those grips yet.
      There is definitely a big trade off in what you can shoot comfortably when going for the more comfortable carry weight of a scandium frame revolver. I imagine there are a lot of people who won't shoot magnum loads from anything less than an SP101 which is a small tank.

      I have a box of 50 of Black Hills .357 magnum jhp 125 grain. Would I be better off using a .38 spl round? In .38 special I have 135 grain gdhp sb Speer GD. I have 120 grain federal punch. I have recently gotten 125 grain xtp jhp from underwood and 50 grain civil defend from liberty.

      @@Fudmottin If nothing else, a 125 gr in the 19H is real long. Protects that cylinder gap well. Even more so for people with the titanium cylinders, as those really erode from short hot rounds.

    • @Fudmottin
      @Fudmottin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GunSam I don't know how the dynamics of that situation work, but the cylinder gap will be sealed for a microsecond longer with the all copper bullet. I can tolerate the 19H, but I suspect I am still better off with something that has a bit less blast and recoil. Although if I get the chance to show off by blowing up a milk jug or soda jug, the 19H is a perfect choice.

      @mikes1097 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fudmottin I have the exact same set up that you have - even down to the CTC LG-405 grips. I have used the Underwood .38 Special +P 158gr. Semi-Wadcutter Hollow Point Gas Check (SKU 733). Underwood rates this at 1,160 FPS with 472 ME. I am not sure what barrel they used. This load is a really hot .38 +p and I find it to be a good compromise between normal 38+p and .357 loads.

    I think, more than finding just a great snubby load, you've found what might be about the perfect ballistics for a .357 or similar round made of copper. A round of about 9mm , weighing 125 grains producing 1,225 fps/416 fpe seems to be in that ideal range for penetration/energy/damage. Excellent video!

    The answer is the rubber combat grip, love the uncle mikes two part rubber over plastic. The current SW for K and J frames is also excellent and allows one to comfortably shoot hot 125 grain loads. Shooting a non covered backstrap is just silly.

  • @troy9477

    Looks like a great load. I have always thought that a midrange 357 load would do well. Looks great for my SP-101. Have you ever tested the Winchester white box 110 gr SJHP load? It is basically the old 38 Spl +P+ "Treasury" load in a nickel plated magnum case. It is rated at 1250 from a 4" barrel. The bullet may fragment (the full velocity ones do- 1500+ fps), but at the lower velocity it may not. It is good ammo in general- i used to use it a lot for practice ammo. The primers are water sealed too. Might be worth a test.

    I was excited to try this out in my S&W M&P 340. I was disappointed that 3 out of the first box of 20 jumped the crimp and jammed as the bullet extended beyond the end of the cylinder. Anyone else have this issue? No doubt that recoil velocity of a lightweight j frame is a challenge, but I guess I will have to try a few more 357 options, as I dont carry anything I am not 100% confident in.

    My favorite snubby load is federal HST. +p 130 gr... Federal achieves plus p velocity by seeding the huge hollow point deep in the case... The top of the white hollow point is level with the rim of the case like a wad cutter... This awesome load recoils in a 11 oz snub nose like a 22 magnum very light recoil... I also like the DPX but could not find it in 38 special I do have DPX in my 380 pocket pistol.. and in my 9 mm micro 9 lc9s pro

    Well, got some to load in my wife's new Taurus Poly 605. I cleaned her gun up polished the cylinders... Tried several different proven ammos. Hornady, Gold Dots, blah, blah. This ammo is the only ones that stuck in the cylinders. I had to use a punch to get it out. I've been firing revolvers for 50 years. Tens of thousands of rounds most of which I reloaded myself. Soooo, for self-defense Corbon is a total fail. It's my wife's life. It wouldn't run in my revolver either without getting stuck. Give me Gold Dots or HSTs or give me death. Nuff said.

      Something I saw on another review was putting a 2" layer of foam under the gel. It allows the gel to expand without throwing pieces off into the dirt. I was shocked at how well it handled the expansion, and it was 357 from a model 92 rifle.

  • @exothermal.sprocket
    @exothermal.sprocket 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your Taurus 605 weighs 24oz. That's to be noted, as compared to a few lighter weight 357mag snubbies less than 20oz. For comparison, the K6S Kimber with the 6-shot 3" barrel version weighs 25oz. A 5-shot S&W model 640 weighs 22oz.
    Really do think most magnum loads in a subbie are not advisable due to recoil, but I do think this DPX is superb, one of the exceptions. Very good penetration with pretty large expansion, almost akin to 45acp expansion.
    Personally I feel like snubbies which are 20oz or more don't really qualify for "pocket" pistols due to weight. 38 special is so much more manageable for pocket carry (or ankle), as the revolvers used for pocket carry should be 13-15oz ideally. Belt/apendix/holster carry is a different thing, lending itself to more weight.

    • @GunSam

    Changing the topic, is Winter over in Michigan? I'm in SoCal and I was enjoying watching you shooting while all bundled up and snow & ice everywhere. Now I'm kind of disappointed. How do you power your chronograph out on your range? Is it battery powered?

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The chronograph simply takes a single 9V battery. Michigan is generally "winter" until the end of March, maybe around the first day of spring is when it starts to warm up and there's less or no snow, but then it might be 50 degrees for a week then snow again mid April, but only a dusting. Michigan is known for weird weather due to the lakes. Like yesterday and today were near 70 degrees, then tomorrow through Monday is upper 30's and upper 40's. Our weather sucks in general. November through March is hard core winter, December through February lots of snow and daytime highs around 20. In June through September we become Florida, days and days of 90-100 degrees 100% humidity and bugs. Late April- early June then late September-early November are the only pleasant months here.

      @@GunSam We do appreciate you going out in the weather (cold or hot & humid) to do the testing and filming content. A week ago I think there was still ice on the pond behind you, and now it looks like Spring! I'll keep watching for freak snow.

      It's hard to tell. I often film 2 months in advance. Typically I will film for a couple weeks then release videos, so the average video is released 2 weeks after I film it.

    It's all good. But only problem is I can't find any 357 most times!?

      I find it everywhere, not this ammo specifically but I buy .357 Magnum all the time in local stores and online.

    Is that better than a .327 magnum from a 3" barrel?

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really have no idea. The .327 varies greatly from load to load, I do know the Gold Dot is roughly as powerful as this ammo. Also I did run some double-tap 75 gr copper HP but didn't release the video yet, and while it does well, the weight of a 35 caliber at 125 gr gives both penetration and expansion. When the .327 expands it limits penetration.

    Where can I find these right now?

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably cannot. I pinned a comment about the Buffalo Bore 19H being the same ammo. Buffalo Bore has them in stock, a bit pricey but it's comparable.

    According to the best info I can find, Cor-Bon was sold in 2018. I cannot figure out who bought it, who owns it now, or where to buy their products. There is one website that I do not trust - looks like a typical scam site - but non of the ammo sellers I do trust has anything with the Cor-Bon name on it. Do you have newer better information? Or is that an old box you’ve had stashed behind the bench for a few years?

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I purchased my ammo in 2020. I don't recall where. Corbon's site shows it in stock, but I had trouble buying from them in the past. Someone said that Barnes brand 125 gr is the same ammo.

      @@GunSam Corbon is gone. The last and only website for Corbon lists an address in Mt. Gilliad, OH. It’s not far out of my way so I drove by. It is a food distribution warehouse. The manager told me, “The ammunition company filed bankruptcy last year, October 2021. We bought the building.” I do see some odd Corbon ammo on some ammo websites, like 45 cap +P, so I am guessing when they filed BK they had miscellaneous old stock and sold it for clearance. But, clearly, no more new Corbon. No more Corbon .357. Rats.

      tried to but their instructions were vague, like having me drop off a marked gun box at a pharmacy fedex hub. I just didn't send it back yet because of that.
