I don't know about how the US issues licences, but here in Oz, if you have an auto licence, you are not supposed to be driving a manual shift. If you have a manual licence, you can drive both.

So auto or manual, since the US does not make a distinction. That being said, I (Cheveyo) have been driving manual cars for 15 years and my first car was a manual.
There is nothing better than the great Aussie Road trip. Before tackling some of the more remote areas of our great land: be sure to have some emergency rations and plenty of water in your car.
The "painted ground" looks to me like the stuff they use here in Australia to grow grass over large areas. It's a coloured pulp made from recycled paper that's has grass seeds mixed in and is sprayed out as a liquid and allows the grass to start growing without being sowed. Loved watching you guys! Hi guys. Enjoying your videos. Suggestion for you with the car. Invest in something called roadside assist. It might cost you about $200.00 but it will cover you Australia wide if something major goes wrong with your car. Especially travelling between Western Australia to Adelaide. There is very little as far as towns along the way. Enjoy your travels. Your doing more than most Australians have done. And 8 weeks might not get you all the way only driving a few hours a day.
Guys I am super excited for this road trip… it’s going to be epic! Just make sure that as you hit the more remote areas that you have emergency supplies of food and water etc. And Cheveyo, loving that Aussie accent! 😂
Road trips around Oz is awesome. The drive from West to East can be a bit long and dull, but there are some wonderful views and great little towns to pop into! Having driven over the Nullabor numerous times, take your time, make sure you fill up the car with fuel often as there is a stretch over the Nullabor where Fuel Stations can be far and few between. But it's an achievement to drive across it, and the reward that the east coast of Australia will bring will be well worth it! Enjoy the Mazda - very fuel efficient! BLUE STU! Make sure you enjoy some of those amazing country town bakeries!

Especially between dusk and dawn, they’re not kidding about all of the animals that hop out in front. & kangaroos will absolutely hop in front of you. 😂 Also there’s an app that lists and maps free campsites (I can’t recall the name, but you guys can find it I’m sure!)
I am SOOOOOOO jealous of you guys!!!!!!! You are going to have a super great trip!!!! I did a 1 month Australia road trip back in 1988 with a buddy. We didn't buy but rented for the month. Went up the east coast from Sydney to Gladstone surfing and scuba diving. Love it!! Regarding buying. Before we left I researched the trip and several guide books back then(no internet) recommended buying if you are staying for more than 2 months. When you sell you can get almost all your money back. If you can get to the Augusta Jewel Cave, it is stunning! My dad was one of the first three Aussies to explore and chart the cave back when he was a very young Geologist/speleologist. You could call the car "Hope" or "Faith" The drive across the Nullabor to South Australia is a mind-numbingly long boring drive (just my opinion). Make sure you have plenty of water and pay attention to when the next available fuel is. Also be very aware of Kangaroos nearing sunset, they will jump out in front of the car and they are hard to spot. Apart from that, have a great trip LOL. South Australia is nice. As you head South towards Adelaide you have the Barossa Valley, which is a wine district, if you are into that. As you leave Adelaide for Melbourne, there is a cute town called Hahndorf. I think it was originally settled by Germans. The quickest way to Melbourne is through Bordertown but the much more picturesque way is through Mount Gambier and along the coast. Port Fairy is a very pretty coastal town. The Great Ocean Road is such a scenic drive but quite winding though. There are nice places Like Apollo Bay, Lorne and Torquay. If you choose not to go that way, you can head inland from Warrnambool to Geelong.
First Vietnam South to North, then Japan tip to toe, now Oz West to east. You certainly like the epic trips. Another thing about 7-11 their coffee is actually OK for $2. Definitely name the car "Bluey" after the fantastic cartoon series. (I've got grandkids so I've watched it a lot).
I drove from Sydney to Perth, you have an amazing journey in front of you. Nothing can prepare your for the beauty of Esperance. I'm going to enjoy watching your travels.
When the video started, you were in South Perth, just about a mile from my home. After you made the playlist "From The Beginning", I've watched roughly 100 of your uploads. To find out you are taking on one of life's best adventure's (and it won't be easy - but it will be stunning) brings me heaps of joy. That "chill vibe" you experienced on Busselton jetty, well, get used to it, you'll get a whole country's worth of chill in the coming weeks. WOOHOO excited to see your trip. A couple of tips: You'll have no mobile phone and very limited WiFi between Norseman and Ceduna, except at the WA/SA border. They all rely on satellite services. Fill up fuel at Norseman, Mundrabilla and Ceduna. Top up in between if needed but those 3 are significantly cheaper than in between. Outback fuel is expensive: not only cos of the carting distances for the tanker trucks, but also cos they are off-grid so have to rely on diesel generators and solar power systems to run everything including the bowsers. I've heard cartage can cost the servo 30c per litre just to receive fuel. So of course that is passed on. Some outback road houses mark short expiry items as having been frozen and safe to eat/drink past the date. This is fine, don't be scared you won't be poisoned. Eg milk they'll get say monthly and deep freeze it, then thaw it for sale later. It'll be labelled to say so, but if unsure ask. This won't happen in towns, but you'll see it after Norseman and before Ceduna. Highly recommend staying overnight at Balladonia (you can do Esperance to Balladonia in a comfortable day or Kalgoorlie to Balladonia if you're taking the northern detour). Don't bother staying o/n at Norseman but do fuel up! Balladonia is where Skylab crashed in 1977. There's a good free "museum" in the roadhouse for both Skylab and the Nullarbor highway, that'll give you something to do for an hour or so. You might want to consider popping into Supercheap Auto or similar at Albany or Esperance to get a car cooler - for about $30 it'll connect to the 12V cigarette lighter and keep stuff cool for the day - think cheese, drinks, lunch meats etc. It is nice buying lunch daily but can become $$$. Hope you've got Wave Rock on your itinerary! Spend a couple of days in each of Albany and Esperance - the beaches are the best anywhere - pure white sand and crystal clear water with no civilisation (& pollution) between there and both Antarctica and Africa! After you get to SA, take all the lookouts on your right (south side of the highway) between the border and Nullarbor - there's about 6 of them. Nullarbor's is "Head of Bight" and is a breeding sanctuary for whales. The views from all 6 are unbelievable. Keep an eye out for the "RFDS Emergency Landing Strip" on the highway - it is literally a runway for the Royal Flying Doctor Service when required in an emergency. Enjoy the trip!
Have a look at joining the NRMA (National Roads and Motorists Association) for roadside mechanical assistance. As you said there's a long lot of long ways from A's to B's.

I'm super glad you're in Perth! I've been living in Perth almost 15 years and I genuinely think Perth is one of the best city in the world. Especially if you love nature and relaxed lifestyle. So much I love it I had a tour operator small business before covid. There's so many amazing places you can visit! I'm bit sad you will miss north but south is also pretty spectacular, especially Esperance! And it's really good idea you bought a car. It is indeed the best way to travel in Australia. Good luck!
You guys are nuts, but in the best possible way! Drive safely and make sure you take lots of breaks! Not sure if it’s been mentioned elsewhere but you can use petrol spy to work out who has the cheapest fuel.
I have a Mazda 3 - great reliable car... and unlike a lot of newer brands, has a timing chain and not a belt, which is a good thing as a belt (rubber) can let go after like 8yrs or 80k kilometers (I think it is... ) then it's new engine time .... Hopefully you got a bargain ! Bluey is a very Aussie name... that would go well with the colour !

Wow! What a surprise! My car is also a Mazda3, and it turned exactly 16 years old today since I collected it from the showroom brand new on 3/3/07! Still running very well and it has not broken down on the road!🤞 I've named her Chilli since she's red! 😂 Blueberry is a cute name for your car! Hopefully she'll take you to Sydney with no major issues! 🤞🤞🤞😊
Safe journey! In Australia, we are taught to have at least a 10 minute break from driving every two hours, on long road trips. Helps to stop getting sleepy on the long, straight roads. Many people have fallen asleep at the wheel and had an accident. Can’t wait until you get to Adelaide. Please reach out if you need anything when you get here!
Ok so I stumbled upon these videos last night and watched from cairns to the end , so now I’ve back tracked to see the first half of the road trip. You guys are so lovely☺️
Busselton Jetty used to wobble out the end and there was bits missing after cyclone Alby blew half of the jetty away. I still have relatives who live there. After the cyclone, everyone was catching fish that were trapped in the flooded car parks near the beach. I haven't seen the jetty since they renovated it and put a tourist train on it. And it never had a toll in those days. Great fishing too!

Hey Tia & Cheveyo, crossing the nullarbor will be tough. Try to cross it with the least amount of stops you can and get to South Australia. I've just spent a week in South Australia. I highly recommend Adelaide's Central Market for a bite to eat at lunch and head down towards the Fleurieu Peninsula for some great beaches and wineries in McLaren Vale. You're in for a treat once you get to Victoria when you see the Great Ocean Road which includes the Twelve Apostles. I live in Melbourne, so happy to give you some local tips when thinking about what to see and do in Victoria - Just let me know. Have a safe trip. The longest Railway Platform in the Southern Hemisphere is in Albury on the border of New South Wales and Victoria. You will pass through Albury on your way to Sydney.

Just this week I got back from the drive from Melbourne to Perth. Petrol on the Nullarbor was around $2.80 per litre. Fun fact: Nullarbor means "no trees". Also I can't stress to you enough that there is NOTHING basically between Norseman and Port Augusta (around 1500km) other than a few servo's. I'd recommend a jerry can or 2 in the boot just in case too. Have fun.

The first thing I thought of when you shopping at Aldi's....we have one about a mile away here in N. Carolina.....did you buy a cooler to keep all the food in? Summer is winding down, down under, but I imagine the days are still pretty warm, or are you just going to use the refrigerator in your little apartment?.... You two are the best. I lived in Darwin for 10 years and still go back regularly. I’ve never felt unsafe there. You just have to be sensible. There’s a lot to see and do. I know you went to Mindil markets but there are other great ones: Parap, Nightcliff Palmerston, etc. There is lots to see inc: the fish feeding at Doctor’s Gully, the Botanical Gardens, the museum, the wave pool and restaurant precinct down the wharf, East Point, Berry Springs, to name a few. I’m not sure how many you got to. During the dry season most of the scrub down the track is burnt off to reduce fire risk. You’ll often get that smokey tinge in the air during that time. There is often a lot of ‘homeless’ indigenous people at any given time because they come into Darwin for various reasons from their regional communities and find it hard to get somewhere to stay. The dry season: May to August, is the best time to go (and the least humid).

i vote for the real aussie name of Bluey (it's a aussie cartoon caricature) Also while traveling across the centre look out for the big three on the road Kangaroo Emu & Camel. Now be prepared for fuel cost to increase in the middle around Nulabour plains. The road train(trucks) are huge and think about cabins at caravan parks to save some cash they may well be cheaper, and you will meet some of the grey army out there doing the big aussie road trip .They will have a lot of useful information for you on where to go and what to see. What a great trip! Make sure you build in some rest days so you are not driving every day! Find the local farmers markets as there are plenty of them in southern Australia. If you are going to car camp, be sure to plan on getting some sleeping bags. Remember your truck car camping in Hawaii?! For the name of your car, here are some ideas: true blue, bluebell, blue kangaroo, blue crew, blue wallaroo, bluebird, bluey, and blueberry. Good luck and have a wonderful trip!
There is a marvelous bakery in Margaret River and Albany is very cool. There is a cool WW1 museum there that I regret not taking the time to take in. Walk the pier in Bussellton
I bought the same type of car last year and they are a great car - as you will notice when you see plenty on the road still. only common problems i know of are thermostat getting stuck partially open meaning it takes longer too heat up and wont fully cool when hot. and maybe the odd sensor issue which can be fixed easy. Loving you journey around my backyard. If you get time in Esperance (not auntie on the end) make sure you include a trip out to Wharton Beach. Far enough away for the really busy tourist spots, but well within a day trip range.
If you sell your car in WA when you have finished with it you can transfer it straight to another person and it doesn't have to be checked for road worthyness. Plus it didn't have to be relicenced like you would have to do if it's sold interstate. The drive across is easy. Take your time and avoid driving at night or you will probably hit an animal if some type. You certainly don't want to hit a Wombat. They say it's like running over a 12 gallon drum. Australia can be expensive but from what I see you are doing it right. A cheap disposable cylinder camping stove from Kmart is a must have. $20 plus $5 for the cylinders well spent. Check the oil and coolant every day and as long as you don't thrash the car it will easily get you around the whole country. Good choice of car. Reliable and easy to resell at the end.

Best car hire in Perth is 'Northside car rentals, I have used them on several occasions and they never charged more than their advertised rate which never cost more than $300 a week!. Buying a car for a longer term is a great option though. Happy travels✌️

I hope you're prepared for howfar it is from WA to the East Coast of Australia. You'll likely drive through Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills, stop in and i'll cook you lunch!
The South West of WA is far more populated than you realise. Its just that the highway has been modified for efficiency and speed to cut out routes through 3 cities on the way south that would cause you to slow down, including Mandurah, Bunbury and Busselton. Hope you get a little time to check out Busselton and you also get to see Dunsborough, Eagle Bay, Gracetown, Yallingup and Margaret River. You could spend a while in the area - the wineries and breweries are amazing and they've got great food, so I hope your budget might include one last extravagance in WA before the long road over to Adelaide. The beaches when you turn the corner of the cape are some of the best surf beaches in the world, so I hope this is something you get to check out as well. The tourist Bureau in Busselton could give you a lot of free advice and pointers for what is around.
The painted ground is too stop the sand blowing away after they have cleared the block. The grass may regrow too. The whole coast is just sand and limestone. The beaches around Esperance.( Pronounced Ess-per-anse.) Squeak when you walk on them. They super fine sand. You can make great sand castles.

If your doing much night driving in the bush, you will need a bull bar. Otherwise get behind a road train . I’ve done the Nullarbor 4 times in kombi vans. Take lots of music, will be heaps of mobile phone black spots. You should be ok with the mazdaratti they are a great car and good on juice. AU Falcon Wagon on lpg is the best budget rig for Oz. From my backyard of South Freo to the best weekend getaway of the southwest! Not really sure why the GPS decides to go through the potato fields but the same route every time lol. And there is always traffic build up on the Kwinana Freeway! Also used cars from dealers in WA are protected by consumer protection for 1 year, so generally they're ok reliability. Green paper spray on empty building lots is to stop the sand blowing around.

Nice part about a 2005 model vehicle is that it has fewer electronics to fail. Five speed manual transmission will give you more miles per gallon than an auto and when you're embarking on a trip from Perth to the Eastern seaboard of Australia (approx. 3000 miles) it makes a difference. Especially when you see the cost of fuel going across the Nullarbor. Please, before you leave, have a mechanic inspect the vehicle. Nothing would spoil your trip more than dumpind a timing belt in some remote area.
Beautiful area around south west and south coast of WA. Margaret River, Albany and Esperance. I loved the beach at Esperance. Enjoy the trip across the Nullarbor and see if you can see the Great Australian Bight. It's amazing!

Best thing to do crossing the nullabor. a. get yourself a 10litre or 20 litre fuel container to cross the Nullabor. fuel will be quite a bit more expensive until Penong SA. Take the roo warning seriously sunrise sun set. Don't carry a full container once off the nullabor (heat/expansion /smells). 12kms past the nullabor Roadhouse (south Australia) turn off to the coast -(12kms), you may see early season Whales viewing platforms and information centre. Walpole WA has the tree tops walk DO IT, stunning.The Bibbulmun Track goes through there, Australia's best walking trail (Perth/Albany 1000kms). Don't rush things enjoy Kezza
Best of luck guys. I drove my young family from east to west coast and back many years ago. Best trip ever. Others will tell you to but it's pronounced Al-bany (not All-bany like NY) and Ess-prence..no accent on the last e. Hey a tip to save money here in Oz. Go to the supermarket after 7pm to pick up specials like a whole barbecued chicken for $4 instead of $11. They'll cut prices to move the fresh stock. Also get an app to find best petrol (gas) price, as they fluctuate wildly. Enjoy!

The 'paint' you noticed is a special coating they spray on sand to stop wind erosion before building on the land

I am SOOOOOOO jealous of you guys!!!!!!! You are going to have a super great trip!!!! I did a 1 month Australia road trip back in 1988 with a buddy. We didn't buy but rented for the month. Went up the east coast from Sydney to Gladstone surfing and scuba diving. Love it!! Regarding buying. Before we left I researched the trip and several guide books back then(no internet) recommended buying if you are staying for more than 2 months. When you sell you can get almost all your money back.

If you can get to the Augusta Jewel Cave, it is stunning! My dad was one of the first three Aussies to explore and chart the cave back when he was a very young Geologist/speleologist. You could call the car "Hope" or "Faith" The drive across the Nullabor to South Australia is a mind-numbingly long boring drive (just my opinion). Make sure you have plenty of water and pay attention to when the next available fuel is. Also be very aware of Kangaroos nearing sunset, they will jump out in front of the car and they are hard to spot. Apart from that, have a great trip LOL. South Australia is nice. As you head South towards Adelaide you have the Barossa Valley, which is a wine district, if you are into that. As you leave Adelaide for Melbourne, there is a cute town called Hahndorf. I think it was originally settled by Germans. The quickest way to Melbourne is through Bordertown but the much more picturesque way is through Mount Gambier and along the coast. Port Fairy is a very pretty coastal town. The Great Ocean Road is such a scenic drive but quite winding though. There are nice places Like Apollo Bay, Lorne and Torquay. If you choose not to go that way, you can head inland from Warrnambool to Geelong.
First Vietnam South to North, then Japan tip to toe, now Oz West to east. You certainly like the epic trips. Another thing about 7-11 their coffee is actually OK for $2. Definitely name the car "Bluey" after the fantastic cartoon series. (I've got grandkids so I've watched it a lot).

When the video started, you were in South Perth, just about a mile from my home. After you made the playlist "From The Beginning", I've watched roughly 100 of your uploads. To find out you are taking on one of life's best adventure's (and it won't be easy - but it will be stunning) brings me heaps of joy. Can't wait to see it unfold and I'm praying that everything goes so well for you both.
That "chill vibe" you experienced on Busselton jetty, well, get used to it, you'll get a whole country's worth of chill in the coming weeks. I so hope the Australian countryside puts on a show for you. And I hope the rains come when you travel because it'll bring the flora back to life so quickly when it does.

WOOHOO excited to see your trip. A couple of tips:
You'll have no mobile phone and very limited WiFi between Norseman and Ceduna, except at the WA/SA border. They all rely on satellite services.
Fill up fuel at Norseman, Mundrabilla and Ceduna. Top up in between if needed but those 3 are significantly cheaper than in between. Outback fuel is expensive: not only cos of the carting distances for the tanker trucks, but also cos they are off-grid so have to rely on diesel generators and solar power systems to run everything including the bowsers. I've heard cartage can cost the servo 30c per litre just to receive fuel. So of course that is passed on.
Some outback road houses mark short expiry items as having been frozen and safe to eat/drink past the date. This is fine, don't be scared you won't be poisoned. Eg milk they'll get say monthly and deep freeze it, then thaw it for sale later. It'll be labelled to say so, but if unsure ask. This won't happen in towns, but you'll see it after Norseman and before Ceduna.
Highly recommend staying overnight at Balladonia (you can do Esperance to Balladonia in a comfortable day or Kalgoorlie to Balladonia if you're taking the northern detour). Don't bother staying o/n at Norseman but do fuel up! Balladonia is where Skylab crashed in 1977. There's a good free "museum" in the roadhouse for both Skylab and the Nullarbor highway, that'll give you something to do for an hour or so.
You might want to consider popping into Supercheap Auto or similar at Albany or Esperance to get a car cooler - for about $30 it'll connect to the 12V cigarette lighter and keep stuff cool for the day - think cheese, drinks, lunch meats etc. It is nice buying lunch daily but can become $$$.
Hope you've got Wave Rock on your itinerary! Spend a couple of days in each of Albany and Esperance - the beaches are the best anywhere - pure white sand and crystal clear water with no civilisation (& pollution) between there and both Antarctica and Africa!
After you get to SA, take all the lookouts on your right (south side of the highway) between the border and Nullarbor - there's about 6 of them. Nullarbor's is "Head of Bight" and is a breeding sanctuary for whales. The views from all 6 are unbelievable.
Keep an eye out for the "RFDS Emergency Landing Strip" on the highway - it is literally a runway for the Royal Flying Doctor Service when required in an emergency.

Have a look at joining the NRMA (National Roads and Motorists Association) for roadside mechanical assistance. As you said there's a long lot of long ways from A's to B's.
They also have Ultra Care where they will also pay for accommodation if you get stuck waiting for car repairs.

I'm super glad you're in Perth! I've been living in Perth almost 15 years and I genuinely think Perth is one of the best city in the world. Especially if you love nature and relaxed lifestyle. So much I love it I had a tour operator small business before covid. There's so many amazing places you can visit! I'm bit sad you will miss north but south is also pretty spectacular, especially Esperance! And it's really good idea you bought a car. It is indeed the best way to travel in Australia. Good luck!

You guys are nuts, but in the best possible way! Drive safely and make sure you take lots of breaks! Not sure if it’s been mentioned elsewhere but you can use petrol spy to work out who has the cheapest fuel.
I have a Mazda 3 - great reliable car... and unlike a lot of newer brands, has a timing chain and not a belt, which is a good thing as a belt (rubber) can let go after like 8yrs or 80k kilometers (I think it is... ) then it's new engine time .... Hopefully you got a bargain ! Bluey is a very Aussie name... that would go well with the colour !

Wow! What a surprise! My car is also a Mazda3, and it turned exactly 16 years old today since I collected it from the showroom brand new on 3/3/07! Still running very well and it has not broken down on the road!🤞 I've named her Chilli since she's red! 😂 Blueberry is a cute name for your car! Hopefully she'll take you to Sydney with no major issues! 🤞🤞🤞😊
Safe journey! In Australia, we are taught to have at least a 10 minute break from driving every two hours, on long road trips. Helps to stop getting sleepy on the long, straight roads. Many people have fallen asleep at the wheel and had an accident.

Ok so I stumbled upon these videos last night and watched from cairns to the end , so now I’ve back tracked to see the first half of the road trip. You guys are so lovely☺️
Busselton Jetty used to wobble out the end and there was bits missing after cyclone Alby blew half of the jetty away. I still have relatives who live there. After the cyclone, everyone was catching fish that were trapped in the flooded car parks near the beach. I haven't seen the jetty since they renovated it and put a tourist train on it. And it never had a toll in those days. Great fishing too!

Hey Tia & Cheveyo, crossing the nullarbor will be tough. Try to cross it with the least amount of stops you can and get to South Australia. I've just spent a week in South Australia. I highly recommend Adelaide's Central Market for a bite to eat at lunch and head down towards the Fleurieu Peninsula for some great beaches and wineries in McLaren Vale. You're in for a treat once you get to Victoria when you see the Great Ocean Road which includes the Twelve Apostles. I live in Melbourne, so happy to give you some local tips when thinking about what to see and do in Victoria - Just let me know. Have a safe trip. The longest Railway Platform in the Southern Hemisphere is in Albury on the border of New South Wales and Victoria. You will pass through Albury on your way to Sydney.

Just this week I got back from the drive from Melbourne to Perth. Petrol on the Nullarbor was around $2.80 per litre. Fun fact: Nullarbor means "no trees". Also I can't stress to you enough that there is NOTHING basically between Norseman and Port Augusta (around 1500km) other than a few servo's. I'd recommend a jerry can or 2 in the boot just in case too. Have fun.

The first thing I thought of when you shopping at Aldi's....we have one about a mile away here in N. Carolina.....did you buy a cooler to keep all the food in? Summer is winding down, down under, but I imagine the days are still pretty warm, or are you just going to use the refrigerator in your little apartment?.... You two are the best. I lived in Darwin for 10 years and still go back regularly. I’ve never felt unsafe there. You just have to be sensible. There’s a lot to see and do. I know you went to Mindil markets but there are other great ones: Parap, Nightcliff Palmerston, etc. There is lots to see inc: the fish feeding at Doctor’s Gully, the Botanical Gardens, the museum, the wave pool and restaurant precinct down the wharf, East Point, Berry Springs, to name a few. I’m not sure how many you got to. During the dry season most of the scrub down the track is burnt off to reduce fire risk. You’ll often get that smokey tinge in the air during that time. There is often a lot of ‘homeless’ indigenous people at any given time because they come into Darwin for various reasons from their regional communities and find it hard to get somewhere to stay. The dry season: May to August, is the best time to go (and the least humid).

i vote for the real aussie name of Bluey (it's a aussie cartoon caricature) Also while traveling across the centre look out for the big three on the road Kangaroo Emu & Camel.
Now be prepared for fuel cost to increase in the middle around Nulabour plains. The road train(trucks) are huge and think about cabins at caravan parks to save some cash they may well be cheaper, and you will meet some of the grey army out there doing the big aussie road trip .They will have a lot of useful information for you on where to go and what to see.

What a great trip! Make sure you build in some rest days so you are not driving every day! Find the local farmers markets as there are plenty of them in southern Australia. If you are going to car camp, be sure to plan on getting some sleeping bags. Remember your truck car camping in Hawaii?!

There is a marvelous bakery in Margaret River and Albany is very cool. There is a cool WW1 museum there that I regret not taking the time to take in. Walk the pier in Bussellton
I bought the same type of car last year and they are a great car - as you will notice when you see plenty on the road still. only common problems i know of are thermostat getting stuck partially open meaning it takes longer too heat up and wont fully cool when hot. and maybe the odd sensor issue which can be fixed easy. Loving you journey around my backyard. If you get time in Esperance (not auntie on the end) make sure you include a trip out to Wharton Beach. Far enough away for the really busy tourist spots, but well within a day trip range.
If you sell your car in WA when you have finished with it you can transfer it straight to another person and it doesn't have to be checked for road worthyness. Plus it didn't have to be relicenced like you would have to do if it's sold interstate.
The drive across is easy. Take your time and avoid driving at night or you will probably hit an animal if some type. You certainly don't want to hit a Wombat. They say it's like running over a 12 gallon drum.
Australia can be expensive but from what I see you are doing it right. A cheap disposable cylinder camping stove from Kmart is a must have. $20 plus $5 for the cylinders well spent.
Check the oil and coolant every day and as long as you don't thrash the car it will easily get you around the whole country.
Good choice of car. Reliable and easy to resell at the end.

Best car hire in Perth is 'Northside car rentals, I have used them on several occasions and they never charged more than their advertised rate which never cost more than $300 a week!.
Buying a car for a longer term is a great option though.

The South West of WA is far more populated than you realise. Its just that the highway has been modified for efficiency and speed to cut out routes through 3 cities on the way south that would cause you to slow down, including Mandurah, Bunbury and Busselton. Hope you get a little time to check out Busselton and you also get to see Dunsborough, Eagle Bay, Gracetown, Yallingup and Margaret River. You could spend a while in the area - the wineries and breweries are amazing and they've got great food, so I hope your budget might include one last extravagance in WA before the long road over to Adelaide. The beaches when you turn the corner of the cape are some of the best surf beaches in the world, so I hope this is something you get to check out as well. The tourist Bureau in Busselton could give you a lot of free advice and pointers for what is around.
The painted ground is too stop the sand blowing away after they have cleared the block. The grass may regrow too.
The whole coast is just sand and limestone.
The beaches around Esperance.( Pronounced Ess-per-anse.) Squeak when you walk on them. They super fine sand. You can make great sand castles.

If your doing much night driving in the bush, you will need a bull bar. Otherwise get behind a road train .
I’ve done the Nullarbor 4 times in kombi vans. Take lots of music, will be heaps of mobile phone black spots.
You should be ok with the mazdaratti they are a great car and good on juice.

From my backyard of South Freo to the best weekend getaway of the southwest! Not really sure why the GPS decides to go through the potato fields but the same route every time lol. And there is always traffic build up on the Kwinana Freeway!
Also used cars from dealers in WA are protected by consumer protection for 1 year, so generally they're ok reliability.

Car name = Blue Roo! Was the field spray dyed or sometimes they add dye to wildflower mix, grass seed mix etc so they can see where they have sprayed (at least in Canada ... ;-). Looking forward to following along on your road trip. Best of luck!!

Nice part about a 2005 model vehicle is that it has fewer electronics to fail. Five speed manual transmission will give you more miles per gallon than an auto and when you're embarking on a trip from Perth to the Eastern seaboard of Australia (approx. 3000 miles) it makes a difference. Especially when you see the cost of fuel going across the Nullarbor. Please, before you leave, have a mechanic inspect the vehicle. Nothing would spoil your trip more than dumpind a timing belt in some remote area.
You will definitely appreciate a good aircon in summer.
Perhaps a service before leaving would be prudent.
Beautiful area around south west and south coast of WA. Margaret River, Albany and Esperance. I loved the beach at Esperance. Enjoy the trip across the Nullarbor and see if you can see the Great Australian Bight. It's amazing!
Take a few days to cross the Nullarbor so you can head down as many dirt tracks off the road as possible.

Best thing to do crossing the nullabor. a. get yourself a 10litre or 20 litre fuel container to cross the Nullabor. fuel will be quite a bit more expensive until Penong SA. Take the roo warning seriously sunrise sun set. Don't carry a full container once off the nullabor (heat/expansion /smells).
12kms past the nullabor Roadhouse (south Australia) turn off to the coast -(12kms), you may see early season Whales viewing platforms and information centre.
Walpole WA has the tree tops walk DO IT, stunning.The Bibbulmun Track goes through there, Australia's best walking trail (Perth/Albany 1000kms).

Best of luck guys. I drove my young family from east to west coast and back many years ago. Best trip ever. Others will tell you to but it's pronounced Al-bany (not All-bany like NY) and Ess-prence..no accent on the last e. Hey a tip to save money here in Oz. Go to the supermarket after 7pm to pick up specials like a whole barbecued chicken for $4 instead of $11. They'll cut prices to move the fresh stock. Also get an app to find best petrol (gas) price, as they fluctuate wildly. Enjoy!
