It amazes me to this day how this classic referred to simply as "The man from Strabane" is remembered. I saw this on what I believe was the very first It'll Be Alright On The Night. Long live the Man From Strabane.

Omg! I love him so much. I am a 57 year old New Zealander. My parents (Maori mum and Pakeha irish dad)divorced when I was like 2 or 3. My brother, sister and I were raised by dad and our grandmother who came from Strabane. She would have loved this!

The first time I saw It'll be Alright on The Night, I thought it was one of the funniest things I had ever seen in my life. Of course, since then, there has been any number of 'outtakes' programmes and it has become almost old-hat. Like some other people are saying on this thread, the gentleman on this video certainly stands out in my mind as being one of the highlights. The Irish brogue can be a little difficult for English ears at the best of times, but when you've got a very excited Irishman like this guy, it's almost incomprehensible!! I'm sure that, if you let the video sequence run on a little longer, you'll find that his mates in the background actually throw their placards to the ground in frustration at the gobbledegook! Hilarious :)

Yes Ninja, it was a tv report from some years back, Strabane is a town in Northern Ireland, and people do talk like that.

He was certainly passionate about that issue! I think I remember seeing this when it was current but that might just be another ‘false memory’ I’ve become aware of over the years!

Hehe yeah. The laugh track is because the clip was first shown on a show with a live audience. It as called 'It'll be alright on the night' and was basically an hour of bloopers. This long before DVDs, TH-cam or the Internet.

The guy with the microphone sounds a bit condescending. I can understand exactly what the guy said. I have heard much worse accents harder to understand from different parts of Ireland.
