    I know a lot of people feel burned with Seiko moving out of the entry-level range, but I really think they've nailed it with a lot of their latest series. And since they own Orient, having them newly dominate the entry level domain is a great business decision.
    The Maestro is gorgeous, but the DressKX is also definitely worth the extra money if you can afford it.

    • @TheBooban

      @@TheBooban why? That doesn't make much sense. Seiko is more well known, more prestigious, has far more iconic designs, is Japan made (Orient is made in China). Seiko can't compete with the Chinese on cheap bargain watches. Make higher quality more expensive watches and they can excel.

    I recently acquired both and each are solid choices. I wear the Orient more at work because I work for a very conservative company and the Seiko doesn't quite fit that environment. Honestly, I would like to see Seiko redesign the markings somewhat because I find them dated now. It works on divers, less so on an everyday watch. Good Job btw Teddy!

    • @dskim24
      @dskim24 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also have both, I slightly regret getting them, though I think I'll more likely keep the Seiko. I think the biggest problem with the Seiko is the chapter ring. It might be aluminum or something, but it looks like plastic. And the markings on the chapter ring looks a little incoherent to the rest of the dial. But I like it overall and I wear it a lot! Though I prefer the cheap little SNK793 (with its worse bracelet and movement). I know it's really picky, I'm just stating my opinion. The Maestro is more comfortable and I love the green (I also got the blue Maestro with a leather strap in a really good deal and will likely sell it), but the dial just looks too big, which is just a preference. The mesh band on the Orient feels better, but it's just too loud for me in terms of appearance.

    This is a relatively old video, but I'll add my 2¢. I have this Maestro. It is an excellent implementation of a minimalist watch. The Vostok is horrible because it has neither hacking nor quickset date, so if I don't keep it wound, setting it after a week is already a nightmare. The Casio is so light it's like I have nothing on the wrist at all, and being digital, it just goes on with nearly perfect accuracy and even accounts for month length. As always, a well-prepared and well-delivered presentation. A comment about thoughtfulness of design - I don't think the Orient should be dinged (a couple of levels less than faulted :) ) for it's simpler design. I get the Seiko has a more interesting dial, a little more character. But that doesn't mean the Orient's design was with little intention, as I got the impression you meant. I think it's that way on purpose, perhaps following the "less is more" philosophy. In that respect, I think your thoughts on this may have been a little unfair to the Orient. The watch is not my cup of tea (my simplest watch is an Orient Star classic with silver hands and indices), but don't think it was done haphazardly. It serves it well, makes it more versatile, and keeps the cost down. These comments notwithstanding, an excellent video as I've come to expect and respect.

    Rather than a "versus" I could see both these having a place in a collection, the Seiko covering the sporty to casual and the orient covering the casual to dressy. Get a couple strap options for both and you've got a great starter set there.

    I would go for Maestro and I'm not saying that because of the price. I have a Seiko 5 SRPD61K1 which I love it, it's a great watch, but I'm looking for a more stylish look and I think Maestro have that look. But that's just me. Great video and great channel. I was also searching for an everyday watch as well and around 2 weeks ago I have pulled the trigger for the Seiko 5 SRPE67K1. The size is just great, the look so versatile. In comparison with the version from your video the SRPE67 comes with nato strap, much better for everyday usage and in addition to that the 67 version has a brushed bezel. I was thinking about the scratches but after some while I can also highlight the fact that with the matte bezel version, the dial looks more spectacular and the whole watch looks more valuable than the pure polished version.

    I have the blue Seiko and boy, it looks so damn good in the metal! Stick a black strap on it, silicone, leather or Nato and the contrast really brings out that stunnig blue, sunburst dial. I have a good few watches in my humble collection and this is my favourite. Perfect balance of timepiece and price. (184 Sterling)

    Great content Teddy! I think both these watches are great and offer excellent value for money. However,, I would prefer to go with the Orient Maestro due to my personal taste. I feel Seiko need to change the markings on the watch if it wants to showcase it as a dress watch. The markings on Seiko are more suitable in a sports watch. I really wish they had more models with roman numericals.

    Just got the Seiko last week, one day before I got the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Roberto Clemente LE. Love the Oris, but damn if I’m not equally tempted to put on the Seiko each morning. It wears so wonderfully, I love the blue color and the versatility. You can get them much cheaper than $300. I got mine for $204, making it no contest for me between this and the Orient. Seiko wins hands down.

    I'm kinda digging the black and gold on the SRPE57. I duuno it has a more classic Connery "Bond" like era feeling for me. Torn between getting this or a solar Tuna. Found out lately that the quartz Tuna came out in 78 (when I was born) and I'm thinking of getting a modern street series in gren or black and gold. Those are in my price range. The OG or the modern steel case Tuna are well beyound my means.😅 Plus I really dig the green tuna with the red highlights.

    Hey Teddy, thank you for another enlightening video. Both watches look great. I think the Orient is a better deal here. Anyway, I would like to suggest another great watch that from some reason doesn't gain much attention from watch channels on TH-cam - it's the Citizen NH8350 series. These are very balanced, 40 mm everyday watches, good-looking, only 5 ATM WR and no hacking - but for ~100 USD. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a bargain mechanical watch, much more over the standard Seiko 5's (especially with the low quality 7S26).
