I know you've talked about it before but the Tisot Gentleman is IMHO the best inexpensive dress watch available. Nothing flashy. Just a class act. Great job as usual Teddy.
The Timex Marlin you featured is my choice, not only because it is an excellent combination of style and economy, but because it is a modern version of the exact model my grandfather handed down to me in the early 1970s for my very first watch. I just had to have it!
Le Locle was my first Swiss watch. If memory serves, I might have purchased it as a reward for completing my doctorate. I have the white (called silver) dial with black strap.
@@t-bonemendez9938most of the watches I own are around 40mm, my wrists are 6 3/4 and I am seriously considering picking up the black 34mm Max Bill, it genuinely looks great even on larger wrists. The size is part of the design, but hey to each their own
@@t-bonemendez9938It wears beautifully because it has a huge dial opening. Teddy, your shameless and incessant plugging of the Orient line, especially the Bambino 2, has resulted in me finally adding one to my collection. 😂 I am not disappointed either. Love the content here.
@BRMCaptChaos That is a nice looking watch for sure, the Kamasu. I went for the Bambino 2, silver case, white dial w/blue accent hands, brown leather band. The crystal and everything about the watch is classic, making it appear older than it is. I actually like it more in person and on the wrist now that I finally gave in for one. The Kamasu is definitely another one I have been thinking about.
Dear editor, please work on always including the lug width in the specifications graphic. Some watches show it and others do not. This inconsistency has always annoyed me with the Teddy videos and the store's website.
@JohnnyUtah-qi7fn But I said please.... Could've said Please include lug width in the specs and the applicable product page should have it too (leave out that it's annoying).... If a webpage manager is looking at this then the benefits would be that customers don't have to look elsewhere for common information about a product that could land them in a competitor's storefront that has the information they're seeking.
IMO The best dress watch under $1,000 is the Longines presence automatic white dial without the gold plating is the classiest one IMO, They're usually between $800-$1,000 pre owned, It looks so classy and has that Vacheron patriomony, Patek calatrava look fro, Thm a brand with rich history and consistency, Even a patriomony wearer will respect it!
I literally just bought 2 Presages this week. One for my son in law who is a pediatrician and one for my daughter who is a pediatric cardiology fellow. These are watches they can wear to the office or the a dinner at a high end restaurant. Perfect watches.
I have the Marlin 34! It’s so good! I have a 7.5” wrist and absolutely love the smaller vibe, proper throw back to when men wore small watches and weren’t derided as effeminate!
I wish orient would do a bambino with no date. In my mind a dress watch is a special occasion piece. I don’t wear it every day so it’s nice to avoid setting the date, and part of it feels like it doesn’t matter to me. I’m wearing it to a celebration or a nice dinner, and I do not care about the date. I do like dates on my daily though.
Here is one... Citizen NB1060-12L (Silver Leaf Lacquer Dial) is the best dress dial under $1,000 !!! Unbelievable execution that wouldn't embarrass a $5,000 watch
The NB1060-04A and NB1060-12L are honestly just a really good deal for what you are getting, a premium movement, great case, great leather strap, amazing movement finishing, and killer dials. The 04A is simply amazing as a normal dress watch, and the 12L is really good as a general watch that passes as a dressier-style watch when needed.
My pick for a sub-$1,000 dress watch is another Hamilton: the 40mm Jazzmaster Viewmatic Auto (H32515555). It has a partially textured dial, a sapphire crystal, a date window, an exhibition caseback, and an 80 hour power reserve. It slides under a dress shirt cuff very easily and has been super great!
I think if you're looking for a vintage inspired timepiece the Bulova Frank Sinatra, Frank Lloyd Wright and Joseph Bulova collections need to be on your list of considerations.
I have an Orient Bambino version 7 with the champagne dial and I love it, but recently I saw that Orient came out with new dial colors for the version 7 with a steel bracelet. The one with the Salmon (pink) dial really pops! Absolutely beautiful piece that I may need to add that one to my collection.
While the Presage line rightly gets its plaudits, I think Seiko's Dolce line deserves a shoutout, especially models like the SACM150. Yes they are JDM-only, but can be had for around $350-400 from sites like Sakura Watches. The SACM150 is a truly underrated gem - excellent dress watch proportions of 33.5mm width and 5(!!!)mm thickness, and a gorgeous frosted dial. The real star of the show though, is its HAQ movement rated to +/- 10 seconds PER YEAR - that's Grand Seiko levels of accuracy for a fraction of the price.
Thank you. My grandsons are close to graduating from college. I have a collection of watches I will leave, but that is not going to happen for a while. I want to get them interested in collecting, as well as helping them to understand a watch is an important style element. I will use this video and start buying watches for them. I have a Gruen given to me by my grandfather.
Dress Watches Me Likey. Currently own a Tissot Le Locle and Seiko Open Heart Presage. Absolutely stunning dress watches I thoroughly enjoy even though I often use them in casual and non formal occassions.
I tried on a Mido Multifort at a store and was smitten by it. Almost bought it on the spot. I’m being careful about buying a “dress watch“ due to the high risk of eventually being bored by it, so the dress watch can’t be too plain. Needs to have something that stands out.
If we're considering quartz here, I might even suggest taking a look at Movado, as polarizing as they are in the modern day. Say what we want about Movado, but there's no denying their designs are fairly unique
Citizen Eco-Drive Suratto Blue Dial Watch | AR3120-08L is on my list of affordable dress watches to look out for. I love how thin and sleek and understated it is.
My top 5 circa $1,000: Certina Ds Diver 38mm Hamilton murph 38 with the bracelet Tissot gentleman (altherr showed it fits well/ prx 35mm interesting too) Mido Ocean Star (i think it's around 1k, not sure) Seiko alpinist gmt, the black or blue one
I don’t have a large budget for watches, especially dress watches that won’t see a lot of wrist time. But the Tissot Le Locle (with the white / silver dial) has been my attainable grail for a while. Since I’m turning 40 this year I decided to finally pick one up for the occasion, and it’s a stunning piece. No regrets! That Mido is gorgeous though… new attainable grail?
Kuoe has several watches that are impressive for the price point. Their 90-008 Royal smith is a cushion case 3 hander rocking a miyota 9039, it's gorgeous. They also just introduced a triple calendar model that you can get with or without panda/reverse panda sub dials, blued hands, breguet numerals, using a miyota 9122--a vastly underutilized movement. All under $1000 USD.
