Yeh when you pop a disc on after a while I find myself saying yeh!!!! I'm ok, I'm in Coolesville. Really grounding ..... Joke aside. Pirates, Living it up..... Nobody like her.
@@jimbanda minus two. Me either - no clue. Great song Mr. Prine. I've seen Bonnie a couple times, and she always kills it. Never seen Rickie Lee but cool version. I like with artists get to create and riff off each other.
I never expected to see one of my all time favorites, Bonnie, be nearly blown off the stage like this. Rickie is so soulful it gives me chills. If only the mixing was better, but hey, it is what it is.
She wasn’t blown off by Rickie. It’s just that she sang the melody and Rickie the harmony over her so she sounded a bit more brilliant. It was very humbled of her part to let Rickie showed off herself. Not many singers do that, most of them are very egoistic
Completely forgot they performed together, Bonnie and Rickie Lee at the time were no longer the "darlings" of the record label, so it's really cool to find clips like this, especially with RLJ recently releasing her memoir.
I forgot that as well. I’m going thru a Rickie Lee phase, you know, spending time at the Last Chance Texico. I had no idea she had a autobio! Her writing is always otherworldly.
I saw her perform in 89 and my friend and I agreed it was worth every cent after the first song. I also saw her this year, she has lost nothing since 89, her voice and spirit are pure magic - please see her!
I saw her in 1978 or 79. Been so long ago that I don't remember which year. Concert was in Memphis at a beautiful old theater downtown called the Orpheum Theater. Concert stage was made out to look like they were playing on top of a roof in the middle of a large city. She called it her rooftop tour after release of her first album. To this day, it's still the best most memorable concert I ever saw.
She still tours. I've seen her maybe a dozen times. She's softened at the edges now. A little less "perfectionist", but so much more insightful. Go. Find her. Go. It will be you and about 300 - 500 people.
Both John Prine and Bonnie own this song, but this is the best version that I've heard from Bonnie Raitt incredible. Those two along with Rickie Lee Jones are in A League of Their Own. Sadly John Prine was one of the over 1 million, at this point, covid victims. Rest in peace John - Thanks
LOVE THIS! Have NEVER seen or heard Rickie Lee perform with another well known artist that I enjoy also. Great job man! They are both legends, both great in their own right!
That's true. I've seen Rickie in concert many times. She's quite brilliant but not easy with other humans. I've seen her fight with her band and her audience! Just makes me love her more.
How did I miss this until now? I have been listening to both these women performers fir 45 years. Saw Bonnie in concert before she became well-known. Listened to both on their records and cassettes! But together they are magical!
I was lucky enough to be there for the whole event. An experience I'll never forget! I spent two weeks healing all the scratches I go on my belly playing slip and slide on the rain covered ground!
id love to hear rickie do this on her own,,,,her harmonies are passionate, which the frustrated central female character in the story of the song is......and hello! rickie still rocks the universe.
THIS!!!! I can’t believe I had to get this far to find out who he is. He’s like the Ringo of Harmonica fills. Not fancy, but always surprising, fits the song. Love it.
I love RLJ. I love her voice and how she uses it in this video. Yes she may be overriding a bit but that makes me respect lady Bonnie deeply for her maturity, technique and talent to be able to be with Rickie’s wild childness.
Micky Raphael, the unsung hero of the harp! The 80's were hard then - the fads and fashions look even worse 35 years past them. Nice to know we won't ever have to wear those stupid clothes again
I wish that Bonnie & Rickie would go into the studio and do this song some proper justice. The thing about their performance here was that it was totally impromptu, unrehearsed and with the Live Aid/Farm Aid style of concerts, the performers had a very limited time allowed for setting up and usually went on without a sound check. And when there was an acoustic set like this, the stage hands and roadies are setting up a full up band backstage so that sometimes hurt the acoustic set(Neil Young griped about this happening at Live Aid). So, all things considered, Bonnie and Rickie did very good here.
One thing about Bonnie Raiit. This performance was in 1985, back when Bonnie was relatively unknown to the general public. She didn't find mainstream success until four or five years after this performance.
Look at this video closely, Bonnie want's to sing it as though she wrote it. At 1:40 she mouthed, back off and Rickie fought the feed back. There is no love lost in Bonnie's eyes. Look closely at the harmonica player and his allegiance, look then at his fingers on the mic and what he is saying to Bonnie.
Rickie is too cool - out of Bonnie's realm - Bonnie has her own style, but Rickie is out of this world - jazzy, sophisticated, deep - she oozes it from the depths of her soul. She's like Billie Holiday - unique style of her own and depth of feeling.
"She's like Billie Holiday - unique style of her own and depth of feeling." So true ! As Billie, times have been tough for Rickie and they both share that kind of sensitivity to life, I guess.
I think Tiger Jo was referring to RKJ much more varied repertoire as compared to Bonnie who's more a folk and country singer. You're right anyway for they're both stunning artists ;o)
I'm hearing 2 great artists singing at cross purposes; Bonnie's great and Rickie's great but they ain't singing the same song. I know what Bonnie sounds like on this tune but someday I have to hear what Rickie does with it; I'm sure it's from outer space.
A bit late on this but totally agree. At first I thought Rickie was doing it as part of the harmony, but no, they're both just off doing their own thing and not really working that well together. Maybe they just didn't have time to rehearse it together. Be interesting to hear Rickie do a full version of this and see if she still hangs off key for emphasis.
The fireworks between Bonnie and Ricky Lee destroyed the performance. Clearly sparks flew previous to this number. Watch Bonnie's eyes flash at Ricky Lee when she faces her, then turn her back to her like Ricky Lee isn't there. But Ricky Lee avoids looking at Bonnie the whole time. Two fussing folks for sure. LOVE THEM BOTH THO.
Bonnie sang a hard-felt melody and Rickie the harmony over her so she sounded a bit more brilliant. It was very humbled of her part. Not many singers let others do that, most of them are very egoistic
Whoa! Bonnie & Rickie Lee singing on stage together? INCREDIBLE!!!
Rickie is unearthly. Gives me the chills.
Yeh when you pop a disc on after a while I find myself saying yeh!!!! I'm ok, I'm in Coolesville. Really grounding ..... Joke aside. Pirates, Living it up..... Nobody like her.
I think this is one of the best duets I've heard of this song!
Wow !!! These two ladies are awesome together !!! I love Bonnie, everything she does !!! Rickie, fantastic !!!!!
Well everybody knows who wrote this classic, but Bonnie really made it her own.

Bonnie is so sweet, and to see Rickie looking and sounding so good. Those in attendance got their money's worth.
Wow! That was incredible!
Love them both equally for their incredible pipes, but to hear them together is a once in a lifetime experience!
Rickie Lee Jones has the most beautiful voice that I have ever heard. I have never seen her in concert.
