A fantastic allotment tour Katrina. I need to tidy up my shed and I am looking forward to the spring because I don't really like the winter season because of cloudy & gloomy weather. Keep safe, warm, well & happy gardening.
Nice to visit you and your garden again. Seeing your garden at this time of year, things beginning to grow and green up a bit, is a great change from my field of cold deep snow. God did it right, giving us early spring plants and blooms followed by all the rest throughout the season. I love those spring bulbs. First ones to show up in my flower bed are those pretty crocus, snowdrops and an early dwarf daffodil. This year I've got a few pots inside here with me in the cabin that are growing spring bulbs and gladiolus. Happy Chinese New Year! Gong hei fat choy! I won't be pruning this year until March and April. Your wild hedge around your plot is great. I love the idea of encouraging wildlife, especially birds, with good brush cover and usable habitat. My fence, around my garden is built with that in mind as well. Generally I get a few song sparrows nesting near my garden so I am blessed with their beautiful songs for a good number of spring and summer months. Cheers!
Thanks for another magic episode. Interesting for me seeing your dead nasturtiums - in South Australia it’s mid-summer and everything is bunkered down struggling to stay alive right now. My nasturtiums look just like yours. In winter everything comes alive, green everywhere, and the nasturtiums will be off like billyoh…
What worked for me for finding parsnips is raking your digging fork over (/just under) the surface, to find out where they are hiding :) I guess they will start regrowing foliage soon as well, depending on the weather...
Howdy! Your January harvest looked great and the allotment productive. Cleaning out my greenhouse had me thinking of your previous video. My hillside has a long way to go but working on my plan. Doing lots of chop and drop and been piling organic stuff trying to build up beds for dahlias. I’d like to set up beds for grapes vines and trees. Planted a couple of cherry trees late last spring, they seem to be doing well. Harvested the last of my golden nugget tomatoes. The plants had died back some time ago, but the tomatoes remained viable. Used them for tonight’s enchilada dinner. Yikes, I ramble. Thanks for your videos!

Snow here in Montana turns the otherwise gloom into a beautiful landscape that is topped by the Canadian Rockies in the back ground. Alas, the season is short here, and why I need a green house to grow tomatoes. While living in Denmark, I learned why Scandinavians paint their houses with bright colors. Organised caos is my saying for the month also. Do you start your seeds at home? Have you started anything yet? We have beautiful sunshine this morning I'm out with my cuppa enjoying it. See you next month.
It depends on the seed. I’ll be sowing sweet peas indoors but moving them outside as soon as they germinate. Broad beans I’ll sow and grow outside very soon. All I have sown so far are my super hot chillies at home (on heat and under lights). It’s too early for most seeds.
It's very cold here in the states on the shore in Maryland, that's where I live. I hope to grow parsnips this year too, really nice to have some fresh veg from your own garden this time of year. And wow, what a view from the allotment since that tree fell and the hedge was cut back, it's beautiful. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday.
The flowers you grow are stunning. This year my small plot will be all veggies. We are seeing food shortages here in the U.S. Because the soil here in the Rocky Mountains is predominately rocky and mostly clay, it takes a lot of effort to make new soil to expand the garden. I'm using chicken manure mixed with fine sawdust to make a rich and fluffy (light) soil that does well to dilute the nutrient rich clay, but the chickens can produce only so much, and it needs the summer heat to properly compost and thoroughly convert the sawdust. What I do have in raised beds, grows lots of huge potatoes. It is the combination of nutrients supplied at the roots at the time of planting, and the very loose soil. Your soil looks wonderfully rich and deep. I should not be surprised at the length of your parsnips.
