🇨🇦 I thought I was the ONLY one that used the Ikea boot trays for my seed growing! 😀 I got the idea about 3-4 yrs ago! Love them! Very strong compared to any other boot tray I've ever seen.
Really helpful info. You give folk the confidence to get out there and have a go for themselves. Love the humour in your videos too. You make gardening FUN! Many thanks.
I bet potting up your plants while you can watch the birds in your wild life corner is quite relaxing. I'm still fascinated how you keep your seeds 🌈 👍
And when used singly on the bench provides an ideal place to stack pots which would work nicely for @Peter Huang s idea to fill the pots before placing on the tray
Gluing a magnet to the bottom storage bin's lid and another to where it hits the other bin may make it more accessible so you don't have to continually hold up the lid.
Its always a great day when I check TH-cam and there's a new homegrown garden Katrina vlog. Nice spending time with you in the garden shed. Happy growing 🥰
Just discovered your channel. I love it! I do my garden in France but seeing how you do in England is really interesting and I get to see new techniques! Thanks 😊
You can try filling the pots with compost n the Sortera individually and then placing them in the seed tray. It's what I do to avoid making a mess (less soil flying around). It might be a bit slower than what you are doing currently, but not by that much.
Hi from Sweden 🇸🇪🙋🏼♀️ Lovely video❣ "Sortera" simply means "sort". It is really fun to se how gardeners all over the world think alike. I have used theese Sortera bins for about 15 years now. Mine are 60 liters, a perfekt size for one bag of kompost. I also use the shoe racks in the same way, för carrying pots or as watering tray.
As always very educational and fun to watch , even though i am located in south western Ohio , USA i garden in the English style because i was raised in Stoke one Trent and thats where my gardening love first started and has grown ever since .keep up the good work and May i be a bit forward and say that you are lovely girl and English to boot 🙂
You've done such a great job in the shed and you're still organized. I know it makes it a much more enjoyable process. I really like visiting your allotment. Thank you.
Just like a well organized kitchen with a big window view of the garden. Such a nice job on that shed. I’ve used boot trays for multitude of uses! I also use the automobile sun reflectors in my light setup.
old trash cans are great for storing large amounts of compost, perlite, vermiculite , fine sand and other supplies. the lids s seal the contents and keep them dry. plus you can store them outside and nit use valuable shed space.. I have a couple well used dull green rubbermaid ones from before the city made the switch to uniform roll bins!
In Canada the craft store "Michael's " has those seed/photo organizers. Have to get one! All my seeds are in envelopes, old pill bottles etc in a small box.
Katrina, your videos are so enjoyable, interesting and informed. Love the cute bloopers with things falling in this one. Thanks for the storage and sowing tips. I learn so much watching your vids. Happy sowing, from Midwest us.
We had cucamelons growing all round our front door. They are prolific! I used to gather tons of them and chop them up for my friends chickens. They love them. 😊
Great video and very informative - thank you! Though I now have shed envy, we aren’t allowed to have sheds with windows, so I sow all my seeds at home and then awkwardly cart the plants on the bus when they are ready to go out.
I'm glad to say Katrina That I've watched all your shows I have to admit with gardening There's not much that I know But you had me hooked From your very first upload And I became intrigued Watching all your episodes I potter around my garden But no more it's ever glum So thanks and because of you I now have a green thumb!
I sure get you when you talk about growing smaller varieties of squash. Last season we grew, among others, Green Hubbard BUT we thought we had the mini variety. We ended up with gorgeous winter squash weighing in at 12 and 15 kgs each! It pays to check
It is always enjoyable to watch your videos and your ever changing garden plot, I use the same storage cases for my seed and it’s just brilliant! I also have a smaller version of your poly tunnel and I’m looking into a larger walk in one like yours😀 Have a great week and thank you for sharing.~ Shary~
so helpful! thanks. purchased the storage box and the boot tray! game changer indeed. And like the notebook holder in the shed... need to do that in my seed shed now!
Thanks, your organization is an inspiration. I’ve got an oversized garage as a stand-in for a shed. The previous home owners, who built the house, were fans of huge pickup trucks and the one I’ve converted to my workspace was the one attached to the guest house. The guest house part is just slightly bigger than the guest pickup garage. Great place for my big bag of perlite. Why no rainwater for seedlings? That’s all I’m using as my rain catchment system covers a huge area and contains about 20,000 liters. I’m not supposed to use well water for agricultural purposes (although I’m not sure my greenhouse qualifies, but it was my plan on using rainwater). I’m finding out my composting worms did not compost tomato seeds, got tomatoes coming up everywhere. I’m potting them up to take to our plant swap tomorrow. I also have mint which is the weed trying to take over my greenhouse. And epazote, a Mexican herb used in stews, soups, and black beans. It has medical uses and is an anti-flatulent. I may also pot some strawberries which have come up from seeds.
Oops, sent too soon, fat fingers. I was going to add leeks to my list of plants for the plant swap. Seems if you leave the flower on the leek, it develops small plants coming from it. Once it bolts, it gets woody instead of the bulb. I’m about ready to take plants outside for my wicking beds. Got squash, tomatoes, and peppers. Also outside, my dahlias have poked out of the ground but haven’t done much as the nights have been dropping below 5C too often, but next week’s forecast looks warmer. Daytime temperature has gotten up to 20+, but nights cool off. Low humidity
Hi there:) I ate a chutney what I was making with your recipe(video) for the first time in my life. It's pretty tasty also it is a lovely suit for making curry. I've decided to make it this year again♫
A fantastic seed sowing and potting shed set up Katrina. It seems well organised and the storage containers look good 👍. Unfortunately the nearest IKEA to me is in Edinburgh or Aberdeen so hopefully there's alternative products in B&Q, B&M Home Store with Garden Centre or the local branch of Dobbies. I will need to pop into the local branch of Hobby Craft ( it's near the B&M Home Store )for the seeds storage case.
Thanks for watching David. Unfortunately the seed storage case I use has since been discontinued by Hobby Craft but there are very similar ones online elsewhere. I've added a link to one in the description.
Perfect timing- so encouraging and I already have the seed organizer ( actually made for photos) but will get the IKEA things- So great to see your colorful shed set up- so inspiring! Thank you as always❤️
Finally got a seed sowing case the same as yours, Great idea whoever came up with that! All IKEAs are out of the Sortera boxes at present, so I've put my name down for three. Another good idea from you. Thank you.
Your videos are fantastic. 👍The makeover of the shed has got me going and now these hacks are going to be perfect. Just the sort of thing we all need and I'm so grateful for the help and inspiration. 💚 I might even film mine one day!
Unassuming, not cute, flat trays and convenient and boring stackable storage with lids make excellent helping hands and thank you much for your tips! Every time I spend twice the time taking seedlings outside and binging them back in, dripping all over, I think there should be a better way. I've used the photo storage system for three years now and LOVE it so much. Now if you could come up with a great tip for keeping my fingernails clean or at least how to clean them quickly - I did hear someone say they ran their nails across bar soap before working and that kept them clean - but I don't have 'nails' I have stubs as I bite my nails horribly!
"I have my dream property in my mind...very fine dirt, rich soil and woven fences around my healthy spaces! Now, I understand seed sowing! Thanks

🇨🇦 I thought I was the ONLY one that used the Ikea boot trays for my seed growing! 😀 I got the idea about 3-4 yrs ago! Love them! Very strong compared to any other boot tray I've ever seen.

It’s the best thing, I’m so glad I did the makeover.
It truly is a joy to watch such a joyful and cheerful person who loves what they do. Thank you for being a ray of sunshine in this dark old world!
Love the billie can and cup of tea . Love your bench and your tool board and bird bath . Great video keep them coming
Me too
I love ikea! The storage bins look so useful especially bc they stack on each other
And when used singly on the bench provides an ideal place to stack pots which would work nicely for @Peter Huang s idea to fill the pots before placing on the tray
Gluing a magnet to the bottom storage bin's lid and another to where it hits the other bin may make it more accessible so you don't have to continually hold up the lid.

Those storage boxes are a fab idea! 👌😀 I shall definitely be pinching that idea! Thank you 😊

Good idea. I'd guess it would be quicker overall because of reduced clearing up time.
Hi from Sweden 🇸🇪🙋🏼♀️
Lovely video❣ "Sortera" simply means "sort".

Wow! You inspired me to clean and sort my shed and garage.
Great organization, we have are seed in a file box. The garden shed looks so nice. Rochelle
Smashing little shed.......could doze off in there at the end of a busy day planting ..

Have fun at the swap 🌸💕🌸
I really enjoyed your content! Thank you for sharing your expertise and including helpful tips! It was a really nice video!
Really interesting. 7:24 - what varieties are in the “flowers” and “misc” seed cases please? 😊
That’s a brilliant lil set up👍
You've done such a great job in the shed and you're still organized. I know it makes it a much more enjoyable process. I really like visiting your allotment. Thank you.
Great setup!! Love how organized you are!!! ☀️🌱💕
I try! Once I have a system in place it’s so much easier. That back of my shed on the other hand… 😳🙈
@@homegrowngarden 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for sharing. This helps me get organize.
My seed case arrives today, thanks for the good idea.
I found the seed case. Thanks for sharing.
Just like a well organized kitchen with a big window view of the garden. Such a nice job on that shed. I’ve used boot trays for multitude of uses! I also use the automobile sun reflectors in my light setup.
Your garden is looking cheerful with all the blooming flowers. Thank you! 😉💗
How refreshing to find a video that doesn’t plead to like and subscribe. Lovely presentation and very informative, oh and I had to subscribe.

Always great to watch
Love your 'she cave'.

Thank you to show us your garden and your planting ! Good sunday !

This is such an uplifting video. Made me smile 😊

I'm glad to say Katrina
That I've watched all your shows
I have to admit with gardening
There's not much that I know
But you had me hooked
From your very first upload
And I became intrigued
Watching all your episodes
I potter around my garden
But no more it's ever glum
So thanks and because of you
I now have a green thumb!
What a lovely comment and written in a poem! 👏🏻 Thank you 🥰
My son got me those bins. They are wonderful.
Brilliant ideas! Thanks for this excellent video for a rainy Sunday ... I'm now ordering IKEA boxes and trays, seed cases ... ;-)

Have a great year of gardening.
I'd love to see how you plan and make notes on your garden. I have never found a method that really works well for me..
Mornin’! I like to abrade the edge of big squash seeds with a piece of sandpaper or nail file, it speeds germination.
It is always enjoyable to watch your videos and your ever changing garden plot, I use the same storage cases for my seed and it’s just brilliant! Enjoyable thank u
I love your videos - thank you for the inspiration for my new potting shed 🙏

You re very organized. Its much easier working if you dont wasting time looking for things you cannot find ...
Kind regards,
