I grew up on my mom making steak umms cheesesteaks for me, my brother, and my dad. She'd always load them up with american cheese that she would get sliced from the deli, and caramelized onions, duke's mayo, fresh rolls from the bakery. Ugh, so freaking good. I am 33 years old and I prefer this to any other cheesesteak I've ever had. I live near DC, so I've tried a ton of different cheesesteaks. Nothing compares to this for me. Honestly I'm here because I bought a 21 "steak" pack tonight and I'm trying to decide if I should use it tomorrow for cheesesteaks, or the pack of fresh, tender beef that I have in the fridge.. I really think I'm going with the steak umms.. they're just so good
Your Dad was pretty cool to be making delicious STEAKUMMS sandwiches for you and your bro to snack on. Glad it is a good childhood memory for you. I know I sure enjoyed them too back then and I am going to get them again. You cooked them up perfectly, great job and loved the video as always. ❤️
Every morning for the past two years... I fry up two eggs, medium on a couple of slices of bread fry two of these slices in the same pan, in no more than a minute and assemble what is the tasiest damn breakfast sammich I have ever had,,, I LOVE STEAKUMS!!
MASSIVE RESPECT TO YOUR POPS!!!!! Wifey is GOAT!!!!! I am 53 and will be 54 this year and have not had steak umm since my early teens (most likely early) I bought some from a wholesale warehouse club and also bought them out of nostalgia. Something I could cook and eat easy without an adult around. Mom normally got them from Murry's Steak in Maryland back in the day.
Watching you thoroughly enjoy these made my day. This was the first thing I ever learned to "cook". I used to make these after school when I was a kid.
Had the craving for a week so I got some from the grocery store and made a Philly cheesesteak with onion and green pepper and it came out great. Really happy with it.
Sean, you're surprisingly good at paying attention to all the things happening as you cook. You always seem to cook things perfectly. I fail in that area, so I'm impressed. cheers!
When I was a kid, Steak-Ums and A1 Sauce were considered “Fancy Food that rich people eat”. We occasionally bought the generic version that came in a white box with black lettering that simply said “Sliced Steak Strips”. Our version of A1 Sauce was ketchup. 😂 I didn’t try actual Steakums until I was an adult, and they’re not bad! I make Phillys outta them once or twice a year.
there is alot of things I could say that I WOULD NOT WANT TO GO BACK AND REVISIT 20 years ago but maybe to much TMI . but after watching this review steakums a must revisit.
I'm 20, and my dad just got 2 boxes of these, I've never seen them before but now I'm definitely curious to try them now, actually looks like a nice quick way to make a philly cheese
@@HeySeanEly well I made one after I got home from work, cooked in a pan with a lid, instead of a pot like the video, did a swiss, parmigiano, and white cheddar mix for the cheese, put it on some toasted wonderbread and it was actually pretty good for what it was
I bought some steak-umm's in 2023 (twice) for the nostalgia experience of childhood too. I caramelize the onions. Saute red and green peppers and sliced mushrooms until tender. Chop up and fry the whole box of these greasy beefy sheets of goodness. Drain the grease, season with montreal steak seasoning, garlic powder, ground pepper and a little sea salt. Chop up everything all together with plenty of provolone cheese and slap that naughty mix between toasted hoagie rolls with some Hellman's mayo, and voila! Family comes a runnin' every time! 😋
I hadn't had Steak Ums in about 30 years until last week when I saw them at the store and decided to purchase a box. I had completely forgotten how good they really are. I've been chopping them up and putting them on crusted baked potatoes with onions and Cheez Whiz. It makes a great meal.
When ever I stop by my local Dollar General, I grab a few boxes of Steak-umms. They are 6 bucks now, but last year were 5 bucks. I toast a few hamburger buns with oil and fresh ground pepper, then cook the steak-umms in the same pan. I use no cheese, no onions, a few sprinkles of garlic, and they are so delicious. Just like I remember them when I was a kid. Just like a White Castle, they have their own unique flavor and do not need any added ingredients.
Last meal i had with my father in 1984 was a sliced football shape bun Chopped steakem fried onions White cheddar i think it was And fried mushrooms The bun was toasted And he would butter it with a lather of mayo ........However because we moved alot jobsite to jobsite The it changed alot ...Kraft slices, Cheeze whiz Actual steak in bits Bread Pita bread Gravy fried cabbage ..
My dad made these, too! Sometimes he made them with caramelized onions and American cheese (or Velveeta, which was better), sometimes with Swiss and BBQ sauce. Either way, it was an awesome treat!
I love Steak-umms when im in a hurry and don't feel like doing a lot of prep work. Turn on the flat top, grill some onions, cheese and hoagies and a quick tasty meal pretty quick.
Awwhh Mann ... Those were part of my childhood as well!! Despite the "beef" I to really loved those sandwiches. And even at 30 years old, i don't judge what people eat, you like what you like and if it tastes just right to you then go for it. Nothing wrong with going back in time for nostalgic purposes. Sometimes moments like that are well needed!! 💜
I just happened to see these on a freezer shelf in WinCo about 2 months ago. Omg! I forgot all about them, but they are freaking delicious! I've been eating homemade cheese steaks 3 or 4 times a week since. And they are relatively healthy. Amazing they aren't more popular.
I just bought some steak umm after watching the King of queens episode that mentioned them as dougs childhood memory . 😂 I was walking through the store and bammm. There they were on the side aisle. Score!!!😂 I haven't had them in over 20 or 30 years either. I'm so excited

I brought me some steal um couple of months ago and i was i wonder if there any videos about it 😅 i made mine with onion mushrooms and red peppers on bread white bread with cheese. Those thin slices along with veggies can make two sandwiches when use two slices of meat
