      Not when the idle is that low not good at all for the engine. ....

    • @60viking
      @60viking 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hardtailsuicidaljockey6827 I thought twin cams were oil hungry not shovels. Both my shovel heads were tuned by me all the time to get the Rhythm and it was way slow. That was in the 70s. In the 90 and 2000s I was a extended warranty and Harley was one of my customers. I say (1) engine failure do to low oil and it was on a police bike the lived most of it's time idling and on Radar traffic duty. I say alot more bearing failures on R-1S.

      @@60viking I'm an evo guy to me that's the most reliable engine they made . I had pans on up but for trouble free and reliability evo is the way to go if you treat them right . I have a twincam Electraglide and I hate it I think that motor sucks.

    Raise the idle a little. You don't want to drop the revs.. You'll lose oil pressure.

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Truth. I never let my bikes old or new idle for long or at very low RPM. That roller bearing bottom end needs all the oil it can get.

    watch those damned sneakers though.....some years ago I wore the same kind...gotr sideswiped by a car, at night, with his lights out....guy came out of an alley and turned onto my path hitting my right leg with the side of his door....the brake pedal punched a 2" hole to the bone in my lower calf. The bike does sound awesome...

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sneakers are a styling thing. I prefer my feet intact and usually wear combat boots with steel shanks when riding my kickstart bikes. Neither would have saved your calf but you could always go with motocross boots. They actually work as road armor and of course don't melt like sneakers.

  • @salvadorhernandez3404

    I'm getting ready to stroke my Shovel out as well. What Cam grind (lift and duration and Center lobe) are you using for that stroker motor? BTW don't you think your idel is just a bit low? Low oil pressure on engine is No Bueno! (Good)

    how did you end up at 85 ci? 4 5/8" stroke with .060 shaved heads? or 4 1/2" stroke with bored cylinders? 4 5/8 stroke with shaved heads and stock bore setup is what I have planned but i thought it came out to just under 86 ci. I will also have about 9 3/4:1 compression. Have you dyno'ed the motor? if so what hp and torque numbers did you get?

    • @pgfrancis
      @pgfrancis  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 1/2 stroke + cylinders bored .020 over... brings it to about 84ci - 85ci there abouts...
      Didn't bother having it dyno'ed... she's running sweet & that's good enough for me...
      only bike I've dyno'ed is my other bike... '07 twin cam dyna wide glide...

    I have a 76 with the same gear whine. I'm running a belt drive 8mm inner primary and an Andrews cam. I hear the same engine whirr/whine in your bike as mine. Are you running a belt drive and when you changed the cam gearing out did you purchase a matching set of timing gears? The newer bikes, Evo's and Twin Cams will never have this sound......Shovelheads Forever.

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had Shovels (currently '78 and '82 Low Riders) and Evos for many years and miles. The cams physically interchange though of course grinds are different. Converting to Evo tappets is a pretty common mod and that doesn't change the sound either. Most of the Shovel sound is exhaust. I never met anyone who gave a shit about matched gears but no doubt some folks sperg about that stuff. Much love for my Shovels but the only good part is the engine (and those need top end jobs more often due to not shedding heat very well). The stock starter design is horrible, later five speeds are far superior transmissions, and while the frames LOOK beautiful they ride like a church pew.
