    • @Ultimaximus
      @Ultimaximus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +108

      Just as some things are just barely barely out of reach, other things are barely *in* reach, like the Chuckya drop technique. If Mario's interaction heights were actually lower or slightly higher, then there would be an entirely separate list of things that would then become barely in reach and barely out of reach.

    • @Bismuth9
      @Bismuth9  2 ปีที่แล้ว +134

      Well the top o the town platform being 1.012 unit too small was more so for VSC which at the time was just barely off from working (until Pannen found some optimizations for it). It could have been other sizes but with the way he was trying it, 1.012 unit larger would have done it, but some size smaller would have worked too.

    Really subtle detail I appreciate. In the Chuckya diagrams (like at 8:23), when Chuckya grabs Mario, the position of Mario stays where he was grabbed until thrown. Because of the fact that Chuckya's use a HOLP grabbing system too.

    What astonishes me about this particular series more than anything is that even despite having pretty much as much time as you could ever need to explain every star and every discovered trick, some things are STILL simplified to "Pannen Magic". This could be a 12+ hour documentary series if every single strategy for every single star was given a full explanation. Utterly unbelievable.

    • @Bismuth9
      @Bismuth9  2 ปีที่แล้ว +375

      It largely depends. The file select, SMB1 theme and Mario Medley were one-take recordings, but some of the more complex stuff like Bob-omb Battlefield, the SMRPG music, or Yoshi Valley in MK64, are layered recordings, i.e. I record the bassline/accompaniment first, then I play that back and record the melody on top of it. But it's always one take in the sense that I always record a part of it in one go, I don't cut it in multiple segments.

He was more worried that he could never live up again to that quality of video, would be dissatisfied with anything that wasn’t as good in his eyes, and didn’t want to torment himself again to create another commented video like that that was good enough for him. I’m sure releasing what he believes to be his magnum opus and it getting memed right after going through that didn’t help at the time, and if I could find what he wrote I’d love to quote him instead of trying to remember, but I’m pretty sure he eventually realized the memes weren’t mean spirited and isn’t the reason he no longer creates commented videos.

      Ironically I feel that same way about a glitch I found in Origami King. Fishing storage, while wonderfully broken and allowing for interactions and tricks that shouldn’t be remotely possible, is so absurd that it tends to detract attention from all the other cool glitches that are being found in the game.
      Don’t get me wrong, it’s an awesome glitch, but I do think some people in the discord forget the other cool things we can do. Pretty similar to PUs in relation to the ABC wouldn’t you say?
      In fact I’d say that’s leads to something that I really admire about Pannenkoek, his ingenuity with so many tools and ideas, while not getting tunnel visioned by certain strats and instead considering most ideas collectively, is very admirable.

    I'll say again, this to me explains the tropes and weirdness surrounding the word "magic." People in the distant past found ways to break reality in exactly the same way these players are breaking the game. What looks absurd delusional and nonsensical only stops looking like that when you understand the hidden mechanism of operation or you're simply perfectly copying the process. If you're off by one pixel, one gesture, one letter, disaster or fizzle. All this sounds incredibly familiar to me in a mythological and game hacking context.
