I am practically dying to see the other sketchbooks. I am leaving to another city to learn in an art school/ coaching/ tuition to improve what I am now doing. I kinda felt horrible for not being good enough at the beginning but as the video progressed, I actually started to enjoy it. The problem with me is that I don't really have patience and when it comes to realism or any art form patience is must. I have a hard time controlling my frustration when something doesn't turn out the way I wanted it and often just go ahead and tear my drawings, erase it with erasers or just scribble really hard on it. I want eliminate this habit and go ahead and improve my drawing. And this video really helped me calm down and forced me to think what I am doing. I want to be a person who can be on the same stage as you. I envy you but you're one of the people I admire the most. Thank you for sharing your video. And thank you for giving me some tips to improve my art position.
Akaya Ann Levinzer something I’ve learned from painting is that the kind of seriousness you’re talking about consumes your art and turns it sour. The way to learn and master Art (which I think is a very serious pursuit) is to let go of seriousness and be as playful as you can. You can think of Picasso saying it took him 4 years to learn to paint like Raphael but a lifetime to learn to paint like a child. The playfulness is key to good art, being too serious ruins everything, even if you are engaged in something serious.
Guacamole first of all thanks for replying, your advise pushed me into thinking why am I even drawing. I remember saying once that I draw because it makes my stress go away and I know meant it. I don't know when I started thinking of it as a stressful thing in itself. Maybe it is because I realised that besides drawing I have nothing that can help me create a career. And choosing art as a career means that I have to devote myself to it. There was a time where I used to experiment a lot with stuff but now I am just trying to follow the proper guidelines for everything. I am scared to make mistakes because I am always reminded that I am left with only a little amount of time to prove my capability to go outside of my state. Outside of the safe shelter of my parents, and prove that my choice of fine arts wasn't a mistake. Overall, now I am back at square first and am reminded that I have will improve only when I enjoy what I do. Thanks once again for reminding my roots
Worry less about being "good enough". That's subjective and obsessing over it can tear you apart, especially if your perception of your skill is not accurate (could be too negative or too positive. too negative can be a sign you're on the right track though lol). Critically looking back on what you've done is better saved for another time (days, weeks, months, years from now, instead of right now). I think I have a term for what's good for development: constructive crap. It's not expected to be good, it's just something that explores an area you're unfamiliar with, and you will probably see it as crap then and as crap later. But, every now and then, the lack of seriousness will allow you to really focus (kind of reverse psychology) and come up with something that will really satisfy you, giving you motivation to do somethign even cooler. Just be ready for the ups and downs. Side note: one thing I like to do to focus/prepare is just draw some basic shapes and practice gradients/shading (sort of constructive crap. just dumb doodles that appear not to mean anything at that time). It may sound pointless but it's a good warm up and helps me clear my mind a bit. Another version of this I've heard of is drawing big circles on newsprint. That's kinda overkill in my opinion though, and not any real practice.

Also the exercises you have mentioned, I do them a lot, and I can practically guarantee that it helps over time. I like trying to control my shading with darks and lights in its tones. I think that if I don't use a reference, it will become hard to find the light source because when drawing with imagination all the dark and light tones' direction goes into turmoil.
Love these sketchbooks and love the fact that you are so true to yourself. I was told recently that I am so old school that I don’t know what art is now. Beautiful paintings are no longer art. Developing talent is not art. They said you need shock or offend, create a dialog. I am glad I am not alone in my love for classic art. Keep showing those sketchbooks!
I had the same problem of teachers trying to change my style into their own or modern styles. However, I was also influenced by peers so I did change.... however, I now can come back and still have the traditional and classic drive to do it.
Hi Cesar, it was awesome, please make more videos about art styles that you mentioned like impersionist or art history or famous painters. Please, please please, I don't know how to start the study about the famous painters that you mentioned.

I always looked at it as good to learn all of it, and you can always do whatever you want and study whatever you want in your free time. My art teacher was very academically driven, yet when I was home, I would always paint abstract and I found it incredibly beneficial to learn both ways. Idk, maybe just me.
Your rendering skill was really good, in contrast to the forms. lol Always thankful to see early works/sketches from master artists. Really puts things into perspective.
There is a Mark Di Suvero piece at my University. I walk past it every day and never knew what it was. Crazy how the world works that I would find out through this video.
Hmmm funny... I also learned English the same time I get better at art... I was really interested in Art and also videos from TH-cam. There very good things just in Englisch so I learned very fast and now I'm every happy my english is much better than before.... your sketchbook is beautiful for this age I think ;) great :)

in art class we had to recreate a piece by a famous artist, at first I was sceptical of the idea, but I ended up turned into a beautiful combo of a Gogh piece and my style. I'll always remember that lol

I went to a for profit school for graphic design. I already knew how to paint and a teacher had asked the class to bring in your work so he can see what we do. Well I was one of the few who brought in anything and this guy looks at my stuff and the only thing he had to say to me was: WHY ARE YOU SIGNING YOUR NAME ON THESE, YOURE NOT PICASSO!!. I am still confused.
