    Honestly, even several years into playing this game, I sometimes go into AC, or sit around GHex and practice strafing around asteroids or other objects. Sometimes it's to knock off rust, other times it's to just see how a ship handles. Good guide.

    Fantastic tutorial. Concise. Clear. Brief. No annoyingly long intro. Great chapters.
    Bravo.

    I remember seeing npcs in Elite nose dive to a landing pad and pull a 90° turn to land smoothly.
    I started doing that with my Connie and damn it feels so good when pulled off.

    Maybe some tips on flying decoupled in atmo without just falling to the ground?

      @JohnathanWinters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You just have to apply constant upward strafe, since gravity pushes you down.

    Decoupled mode i would say is also more realistic, believable and therefore immersive, probably especially for flight simmers. Should theoretically use less fuel too. I think they should retain interia coming out of QT, or at least an option. I think it would look more natural too, like that scene in 5th Element where the ship coming out of "light speed" or whatever they called it and then the ship turned left immediately and looked so natural. Coupled is great for non-pilots though. I think they should keep it in. I also assume decoupled should also result in less rubber banding/teleporting or even lag because the trajectory of the ship is smoother. (just my guess)

    Thanks for the vid mate. I enjoy the fell of decoupled but have slowly been made to understand that fighting in decoupled is much harder and from the people i see using it, involves very high energy fights. So it seems control is not that easy especially if it becomes a "knife" fight.

    A guide/video on coupled flight isn't in the description box, just a link to your guide playlist (Which has no video with "Coupled" in the title besides this one.) So I guess I'll just watch this video instead.

    "Prograde" and "retrograde" are used for orbital or rotational motion, ie same or opposite direction of a primary (like a celestial object, the Sun for planets in the solar system, satellites for planets, for example) using an inertial frame of reference (like distant stars appearing motionless) to determine the direction of rotation.

  • @bar10dr
    @bar10dr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can make the retro and prog markers stay visible even when they are in the center in the settings, it makes it a lot less annoying for me at least.

    "Pro grade"? Why not just use the perfectly decent names they have already in modern jets. Velocity vector or flight path marker. Makes more sense to have the description in the name. Or maybe its different I don't own SC yet.

    • @JohnathanWinters

      Rockets use prograde and retrograde since space has no relativity aside from your movement.

  • @ViceFielder
    @ViceFielder 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I just wish coupled mode wouldn't use the front thrusters and keep trying to brake the ship when it's going straight.
    And actual lift and resistance in atmosphere would be great.

    Hi, i know this might be asking much but in the current patch decoupled is pretty much needed for fighting. Im returning after a two year hiatus and u are my go to guy. Is this guide still relevant or are there a few changes and how do i evade in the current iteration? Since nerfing of other engines even landing is harder since u cant course correct easily. Thanks in advance

      Current flight model is poopoocaacaa, they are away of the issues and working on it. But all the same physics still apply. Issue is acceleration rates right now are really low.

    Does decoupled mode preserve roll momentum? If I roll to thr right do I have to roll equally back to the left to stop the roll? Elite dangerous does this and it makes the mode unflyable.

      @@JohnathanWinters Freelancer was a space game but super arcadey it was ridiculously fun. One of the issues I had with it were ships were objectively better than other ships. As in they progressed in Levels. There were high level fighters that were better than low level fighters in literally every possible dimension. It was the first game I ever encountered with decoupled flight and it was amazing.

    Man thanks for this. I always thought coupled/de-coupled mode was for ship-to-ship refueling, and so never paid attention to it, and sometimes would activate/deactivate it by mistake. I would then get frustrated with the ship movement noticing it felt like I had lost control when it was in de-coupled mode. But I had no idea what it actually did. I watched another video that helped explain the basic premise of it, but this video really did teach me something completely new about how to use it effectively during combat and maneuverability. Next time I boot up the game I'm going to give this a test run in the Arena Commander mode to better understand how control the ship in coupled/de-coupled mode using the HOSAS setup.

      If you look up the old manual for Wing Commander 2 (also by Chris Roberts and co.), there are actually some descriptions of good decoupled dogfighting techniques. Granted, this was the manual for an early 90s space combat sim, but IIRC, much of those maneuvers can still apply in SC.
