Finally! I requested for this content in the comment section of one of your videos a couple of months ago. I am happy that I got to know other critical commentaries which could help me study the Scriptures more in-depth even as a conservative Reformed Evangelical.
Thank you so much for this! God bless you.

I began reading the Anchor Bible series back in the 1980s. I love the Hermeniea volumes for both content and format. I hope I live to see my old Professor, Baruch Halpern's commentary on Samuel in that series. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, and I don't read either Greek or Hebrew, but I do fine with this series. I've never understood this idea that people can't find 'application' as you call it, from an Anchor Bible commentary, say. Yes, you're not being spoon fed, but there's also value in formulating your own connections with the past and the present and putting in some dedicated thinking time with the deep meaning of a text on a technical level. I think Stephen L. Cook is an excellent example of a scholar who opens up vistas with his work and reveals the rewards available to those who love God's word enough to devote themselves to it fully and completely. That said, I'm currently reading Boda and Conway's ECotOT commentary on Judges and their Canonical and Theological reflections are a highlight and most appreciated. Because I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood I have deep respect and love for Jewish scholarship (the NT being Jewish scriptures of a different kind) and both the JPS study Bible and their commentaries offer interesting and valuable perspectives for those who like to be challenged by different perspectives. In the end you must follow your heart, and I always pray for the guidance I need in finding the right commentary for the right moment. God has mad many interesting choices for me.

Which is the best liberal technical series?

So you don’t consider the EEC technical? I was somewhat surprised to see it absent from this list. Though I guess I would have to agree that it’s not quite as technical as something like Hermenia.
Keep up the good work! You truly are an invaluable resource. I look forward to another video every Monday.

I am not the least bit interested in "Critical" commentaries however your assesments/reviews are valuable. The fact that you pull from academic reviews and direct our attention to specifics is extremely useful and appreciated. I always gain something from your work. Be safe and well, and thank you.
