I really appreciate your reviews. It saves so much time and money to have a reviewer that understands the issues with commentaries and what each reader needs. A huge thank you.
Hi Rowan, thank you for your comments -- they are very encouraging to me. It's my pleasure to make these videos and I hope to keep making ones that are helpful. Take care.
Well...I bought Lane's commentary. It is HEAVY LIFTING. I am also using Sinclair Ferguson's LET'S STUDY MARK. It is almost the opposite...brief and somewhat "light" when compared with Lane. Maybe Garland will be just right. I sound like Goldilocks!
I just look forward each Monday to what you are going to show. I appreciate the channel and the website. Continue the great work as it has been very beneficial to many of us. I was wondering should a person have each category of commentary for each book of the Bible? And what about more devotional type of commentaries that give more application. How important are these? Anyway great job as usual.
Hi Raymond! Thanks for the encouraging words. I really appreciate them. I don't think it's necessary for most people to have technical commentaries if they aren't familiar with the original languages or are in academics in some way. It's not that people cant' get anything out of them, it's that they won't maximize them and they tend to cost more than other commentaries. For many mid-level readers, devotional commentaries can be great because they may suggest applications you haven't thought of, and if you are teaching/preaching, they provide a starting point for explaining the text to other people. Feel free to ask a follow-up question if there is something I missed in your question. Thanks Raymond.
Gracias y bendiciones hermano.
To be honest it really doesn't. He's work is so readable, his approach is so clear, it makes it feel really fresh. Not a dry read at all, I think any informed layperson would enjoy.
Thanks for your insightful and honest reviews! I’ve always been curious about other types of non-traditional commentaries such as Commentary on the NT use of the OT by Beale/Carson or even an OT commentary on Messianic Prophecy by Moody Publishers. I haven’t seen much video reviews or hands-on material on these and was wondering if you’d think about reviewing these for us. Thanks brother!
Hi Luis, thanks for the great ideas. I have thought about Carson-Beale volume previously, but I hadn't considered the Moody volume you mentioned. I will certainly consider those for future videos. Are you in ministry, Luis?

I just recently acquired the Lane volume, really enjoying so far.
Does it feel dated to you? Sometimes classic volumes feel dated, but I don't sense that as much with Lane, even though it was published in 1974.

Have you looked at Kuruvilla’s commentary on Mark.
Thanks for your insightful and honest reviews!
