Note on the International Critical Commentary: the paperbacks aren't abridged volume. They are new volume. The hardback volume are several years old. Some on them are 100 years old.

Thoughts on Charles Hodge’s Romans commentary?

Thank you for your helpful review. I have got and used most of these and they are IMO all excellent. I read through most of Witherington's volume and enjoyed it, similarly his volume on Acts. Both very readable, as are all John Stott's expositions of course. There are so many on Romans, but Tom Holland kindly sent me a copy of his commentary Hope For The Nations, which I read straight through. He approaches the letter as more written to a community than individual Believers. His full two volume set is called The Divine Marriage and has the references which the shorter book lacks. I would have thought that for Pastors, Tom Schreiner's might be the most useful maybe? as not being too long and having, as with all BECNT volumes, overviews of each section throughout the book but also having deeper discussions and summaries of the various main views with references. Nowadays so many books have been published, not to mention journal articles, that whichever commentary one uses there are numerous references on just about every page. It is becoming overkill!

Just want to say thanks for the video. Also, are you reformed? I noticed a lot of reformed commentaries. Is that because you’re reformed or is it because that is just what is available?

    What books would you recommend
On the subject of "Biblical Theology?"

Thanks for the question. As you may know, people use that term in two different ways: (1) people use it in a general way to synonymous with "theology according to the Bible," and (2) the term is also used to describes a more specific discipline of studying the theology of certain sections of Scripture, e.g. "The Theology of the Wisdom Literature" or the "Theology of the Apostle Paul." How are you using the term?
Either way, you may also be interested in the Biblical Theological Study Bible, so you may want to look into that as well.
