Well after about 56yrs, I've made up my mind on who the best drummer in the world is. Todd Sucherman (Styx)...in my mind is THE one. In a Genre where superstars and gods are made from their solos, I have NEVER for a second thought how great it would be to see a solo from him...it's just not needed and not sure how a solo could be any more impressive than what he does throughout the songs....the man is wicked..a beast....brilliant interpretation and feel....and I really like a lot of great drummers. So after 56yrs of living, breathing and dreamin' music...this piece of the puzzle is complete for me. hehe. Cheers to all that love a great drummer....oh and the rest too.
You can tell by the way Todd moves behind the drums that he absolutely loves playing. I could watch these drum cam videos all day long. Just an amazing drummer.
I sure hope the guys in Styx realize that they have one of the best drummers in the world right now! What an absolute badass.....like all drummers, I’ve had my favorite players through various stages of my life- for me (and millions of others) a few of them have been names such as Peart, Bonham, Colaiuta, Smith, Phillips, Copeland, Rich, and so many more...but I’ll tell ya- Todd is RIGHT UP THERE with the best players I’ve ever heard or seen. He’s phenomenal- and what’s even cooler is that he’s obviously a NICE GUY. Freaking hero.
The recent poll of worlds best rock drummers (top 10) is a total joke.. Rick allen of Def Lep takes top spot.. and Todd doesnt even get a mention.. i wrote this in the comment section of the poll... he's without doubt the best there is right now..

Here is THE master Technical drummer of our days. Its inspiring how hard Todd studied over the years.... Amazing !!!! I have purchased and download many of TS prior recordings, its super extensive he has played all types of music and it shows! !
As an amateur guitar player, what I really enjoy is the cymbal work. Why? It's not splashy, ringy...the crash cymbals decay in time. And the drums are perfectly tuned especially the snare...The entire kit is a complete instrument, not just a 'collection' of drums. Well Done.
U are by far one of the best ever to beat the drum. Hats off.. I watch your videos everyday hoping to play like u...U are my idol. Thank you and God BLESS!!!
there isnt ONE rock drummer who can beat Todd ...literally.....Todd is no DOUBT the most musical rock drummer out there ,....when STYX added Todd it was like they rockets in their back pockets.....and Todd personally?? probably one of the coolest down to earth musician on the planet...kudos to you Todd ...trust me ...you are loved & treasured...

Even if you don't know- or care for Styx music, any drummer should love Todd's DRUMMING. More than a rock drummer....something EVERYBODY can learn from.
After the first video i watched of Todd, he was already one of my top 5 favorite drummers. Up there with Steve Smith, Buddy Rich, Ian Paice and Phil Collins!

1st of all :Todd's drum's sounds amazing ...a class act ...very accomplished (no shit right? LOL) 2nd: have nothing but respect for musicians (and the rest of the guys in STYX) who year after year play some of their old classics like they just recorded them...thats true professionalism...to still display a great attitude & willingness to go out & play night after night pretty much the same songs ...ALL the guys in STYX are total pro's in their field ..my hats off to them...
Todd's ability to navigate odd times and complex parts while maintaining such a deep pocket is uncanny. Vinnie Colaiuta has that quality too. Definitely my kind of "prog" drummer.
I have never been the largest Styx fan but I'd do a whole show just mesmerized by Todd. Well, that and I grew up a 'Gowan' fan when he was solo. Local Toronto boy. I'm also intrigued by how high he positions his snare drum. Just sayin'
