As a Russian-New Zealand adoptee, adopted at the age of two from an orphanage in Arkhangelsk, Russia, I share what I've been learning on my journey with my upbringing here in New Zealand, my current life, and how I connected with my birth family. I also share what my bloodline means for me with those connections from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

You realise Alex....that you have been adopted by saints ? :) The moment (4mins into the clip) when your father answers your question as to how they felt that you were looking for your birth parents and he replies:"....it would make my life...(for you to find closure in a way")"....that says it all.... . You are all such wonderful human beings :)

I love men that refer to their wives as mum when speaking with their children. There's a feeling of family that reminds me of show like the Waltons where family was your bond

Beautiful story. Our family friend adopted a child from China and she has always been sad she will never find her birth mother or even know her own birthday. I am glad you found yours.
China and Korea I think has a DNA collection center for adopted kids .

Thank you for your comment. My brother has not chosen to be in any videos before. I will try sometime to sit down with him and talk to him. For my half brother, hes over in Russia. But when I go back I will no doubt see him again!

You've been incredibly lucky. Your adoptive parents sound like wonderful people. My favourite episode so far is the one with your birth father. He was just so visibly thrilled to find out he had another son! Sounds like that video touched a lot of other viewers as well.

I was also an adoptee. My dad was killed and biological mother left me and my siblings when I was 6 months old. My aunt actually raised us. And she is my mom no matter what. And i recently contacted my birth mother and she reminds me so much if your mother. I am from Latvia ... I live in America now. Maybe that's why your story and every episode is making me cry lol . I would love to have the tools to one day ve able to adopt as well. Love to you ,Alex !

I have been watching all your video and it's all such a blessing things see how sincerely your effort to educate ppl through your adoption story and your journey to connect with ur birth parents, i am so touched honestly. But if i may advised you should've make more video for this two amazing ppl who truly give their life to make you the way you are today.... I’m so glad that you have such loving and supportive parents that understand the innate desires to understand where you come from. I’m not so lucky, but I found them anyway, in 2013. Apparently that was an important year.

Mr Alex I owe you an apology, I never saw this video, I don't kbow how your upbringing was, but it appears you had wonderful open minded loving parents, that were all about your mental being. In as far as your search for your birth parents. Great vid. Like I said I'm catching up my friend. Wish my adopted parent had both you the understanding and the self confidence. They never mentioned of my adoption and I found that out from my adopted mother’s younger brother when I was 5 years old. Because of that circumstances, I didn’t want to find out my birth parent for fear of hurting them. Now, it’s one part of my life, I don’t have an answer to the many question. It hurt so much and there is no closure. It’s like having lost a love one and not knowing whether he or she still alive. Now that bother of my adopted parent are dead and probably even the birth parent too as they would be in their late 90s by now. They too wondered what happened to me. The hurt of the past catches up with us today.

i am amazed of the big difference between your country and my country the Philippines when it comes to adoption. Recalling when i was still a child, i have a friend who was always teased of being an adopted child. Chaos would occur because the adoptive parents would want to kill the person spreading the matter of adoption. It is a kept secret matter here. The process of adoption here is almost not processed in jurisdictional court but by and between the birth parents and the would be adoptive parents in most cases money is changing hands just like buying a puppy or a piglet...Very sad. I congratulate your parents for being very kind to you and your brother...by the way i have a friend request for you in facebook. i hope you accept me as friend. God Bless...
What is the reason for the secrecy? Is it because of some implied shame in your culture? In other words: adoption -> can’t get children yourselves -> failed man/woman, not blessed by God.
