    I understand why Misha might feel embarrassed (even though he should not!) to speak any English. My parents are the same, they are ashamed of pronouncing words incorrectly. It's kinda sad considering that they grew up in different times, and it's totally normal that they don't have any English knowledge. We appreciate the effort, it's awesome! Good to see such nice people. :)

    • @gailwagner8115

      That is so very true.. And he should not be ashamed one bit we all learn the language by making mistakes! No shame in learning :-)

    • @anatolikalyuk
      @anatolikalyuk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      As a linguist, I can say that it’s a typical problem of grown-ups - feeling ashamed of making mistakes while learning a non-native language. Setting aside all the other circumstances (the lack of additional neurons that infants still have), this is one of the main reasons children tend to pick up foreign languages way better than adults.

    I just also wanted to say to you Sasha that Misha is a wonderful person he could have been bitter learning that he had a son in his 20s and never got a chance to see him grow up or a say in his adoption but instead he is kind and compassionate to both you and Tatiana and grateful to your mom and dad for raising you. He has opened his heart and his arms to you and that is wonderful to see and I can certainly see where your kindness and compassion come from. I know that someday they will visit you in New Zealand and have just a wonderful time as you are now having in Saint Petersburg with them and I for one can’t wait to see those videos.

    I can sympathize with your birth father (though his pronunciation isn't nearly as bad as he thinks), I can read and understand Greek at a passable level and read Russian at a basic level, but I hate to speak either of them because I know how horrible my pronunciation sounds, how poor my grammar is, and my lack of vocabulary makes me feel almost claustrophobic when trying to communicate in those languages. I certainly wouldn't be willing to speak anything but English on camera. Good for you that you are willing to put yourself out there and speak Russian on camera while still learning.
    However, it seems your sister got started learning English at a young enough age that if she keeps at it and you keep speaking to her regularly in English, she should be able to speak English with very little accent when older, her pronunciation is already quite good.
